With the proliferation of apps, increased use of these apps can make it easier to find casual sexual partners, resulting in unsafe sexual practices. It was identified if dating applications favor risky behaviors in young people over 18 years of age. A systematic review was carried out using articles in English and Spanish published from November 1, 2014 to November 19, 2020 on the search sites PubMed, Scielo, Google Scholar. Of the 35 articles found, 22 articles were discarded because they did not meet our criteria for combinations of keywords in the title or abstract. Thirteen studies were included for this study. Reviewing the information obtained in the research does not reach any conclusion about whether seeking sexual partners through dating applications leads to sexual risk behaviors to contract STIs / HIV. Even so, more studies are needed with a heterosexual population since it has been frequently described in MSM populations, requiring more studies, especially national studies, to better characterize risk behaviors.

Objective: To describe the microbiological profile of microorganisms isolated from patients in critical care units of a hospital in the Lambayeque region in 2019-2020. Materials and methods: Descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. A census study was carried out on 332 patients from critical care units with a positive microbiological culture registered in the file of the microbiology laboratory of the Lambayeque Regional Hospital in 2019-2020. The statistical software Info stat v8 was used for statistical analysis. Results: The median age was 50 years, predominantly male (55.1%). The most frequent culture sample was bronchial secretion (35.8%). The most frequently isolated microorganisms were A. baumannii complex (27.7%) resistant to meropenem and imipenem with 90.7% and 89.3% respectively, P. aeruginosa (13.9%) resistant to cefepime with 55.8% and 61.1% for Piperacillin / tazobactam, E. coli (11.1%) resistant to ampicillin with 94.7%; and K. pneumoniae (9.9%) resistant to ampicillin / sulbactam by 79.2%. Conclusion: The most frequent microorganisms isolated from the study population were the A. baumannii complex, P. aeruginosa, E. coli and K. pneumoniae; isolated mainly from respiratory secretions, of which the first two showed high resistance to carbapenems and aminoglycosides, and in the next two, half were ESBL.

Objective: To determine the level of the technical skills development of the medical student in performing surgical sutures through a virtual teaching model. Methods: A retrospective, descriptive and longitudinal study was carried out that evaluated some skills of 24 undergraduate medical students, without prior surgery knowledge to perform surgical sutures (simple and crossed interrupted suture) through virtual teaching of the course of surgical technique (virtual classrooms, synchronous videoconferences, inanimate and ex vivo simulation models and telementoring). Results: In relation to the simple interrupted suture, there was a significant improvement in the OSATS (objective structured assessment of technical skills) from 6 ± 0.28 to 28 ± 2.6 as well as the rubric of the finished suture from 5 ± 0.28 to 24 ± 1.5 and a decrease in the time to perform the suture from 44 ± 13 seconds to 33 ± 9 seconds at the end of the course (p = 0.0001). In relation to the cross interrupted suture, there was a significant improvement in the OSATS from 6 ± 0.28 to 27 ± 2, as well as the final suture from 5 ± 0.28 to 24 ± 1.7 and a decrease in the time to perform the suture from 66 ± 21 seconds at 56 ± 11 seconds, in favor of the post-test. (p = 0.0001). Conclusions: There is an adequate development of technical competencies in medical students for the realization of simple and crossed interrupted sutures through the proposed virtual teaching model.

Superior vena cava syndrome is a rare entity. The neoplastic etiology is the most relevant, as well as that related to invasive procedures with central venous catheter.A 32-year-old man consults the Emergency Department for sudden facial cyanosis, facial tightness, dry cough, odynophagia, dysphonia and vertigo without dyspnea. He presents colon neoplasia since 2019, with colostomy and left subclavian Port-catheter. At examination, facial and upper extremity edema, central cyanosis, multiple petechiae and nail bleeding on the hands. The angiotomography shows filling defect fort recent thrombosis in left internal jugular and brachiocephalic vein, right brachiocephalic vein, arch of the azygos vein and superior vena cava in its entire lumen. The surgical mechanical thromboaspiration allowed resection of the thrombus and restitution of circulation, with relative safety and low mortality.

We present the case of a 7-year-old male child with Goldenhar syndrome associated with an epibulbar choristoma. The patient presents a homogeneous tumor, rounded in shape, with well-defined borders, of a soft consistency, vascularized, approximately 9x10 mm, yellowish-white in color, adhered to the sclera and cornea, with hairy formations on its surface, located at the level of the sclerocorneal limbus of the temporal-lower quadrant of his right eye. The histopathology study showed the presence of hair follicles and sebaceous glands, immersed in a stroma of fibrous connective tissue with a superficial squamous-type lining, which defined the diagnosis of limbar epibulbar dermoid. Conjunctivaplasty was performed to cover the scleral defect and use amniotic membrane to cover the corneal and scleral defect. The limbar epibulbar dermoid is the most common type of conjunctival choristoma and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of pediatric epibulbar tumors.

Introduction: Acute appendicitis is the most frequent pathology in surgical emergency. The timeliness and effectiveness of the diagnosis is a parameter for evaluating the quality of care. Objective: To determine the concordance between clinical, surgical and pathological diagnoses in patients with acute appendicitis, “José Casimiro Ulloa” Emergency Hospital, Lima - Peru, 2018. Materials and methods: Observational, cross-sectional, retrospective, analytical study. Medical records of 222 patients diagnosed with acute appendicitis in 2018 were reviewed. Sample calculation with known population (1200), probability sampling. Patients> 18 years of age diagnosed with acute appendicitis, who had undergone surgery, had a pathological study, excluding pregnant women and patients with comorbidities. Data were processed and analyzed with SPSS v.25, descriptive statistics and kappa coefficient were used to analyze agreement, using the Landis and Koch assessment: mild agreement (Kappa = 0.01-0.20), acceptable (0, 21 -0.40), moderate (0.41-0.60), considerable (0.61-0.80) and almost perfect (0.81-1). Results: Adults (50.9%), males (56.8%) predominated. (83.8%) were clinically diagnosed as appendicitis requiring surgery. The predominant surgical diagnosis was a suppurative appendix (32.4%) and a predominant pathological diagnosis of the phlegmonous appendix (72.7%). A case of normal appendix in pathological diagnosis. The clinical-surgical diagnostic agreement was (kappa = 4.18), clinical-pathological diagnosis (kappa = 0.66), and the surgical and pathological diagnostic agreement (kappa = 0.497). Conclusions: A moderate concordance was found between clinical - surgical diagnosis, considerable concordance between clinical - pathological diagnosis, reaffirming the clinical importance in decision-making for a timely surgical intervention. Surgical and pathological diagnostic agreement was moderate, observing a moderate degree of certainty from surgeons and pathologists.

Introduction: Is a risk factor for morbidity, mortality and disability in older adults, so its management is a priority in geriatrics. The aim of this article is to characterize a population of older adults from two geriatric homes and to establish the prevalence of sarcopenia and the degree of dependence. Methods: Cross-sectional study developed in the city of Pereira-Colombia. A population of 72 adults from 65 to 98 years of age was included, using probability sampling. Sarcopenia was determined by means of the Criteria of the European Consensus on Definition and Diagnosis of Sarcopenia, evaluating grip strength, skeletal muscle mass index, in case of sarcopenia, the severity of sarcopenia together with walking speed, and the degree of dependence according to the Barthel scale.  Results: 57 people participated. A total of 68.4% (n=39) were women. The median age was 83 years. Two percent had no sarcopenia, 9% had suspected sarcopenia, 28% had confirmed sarcopenia and 61% had severe sarcopenia. According to the Barthel scale, 31.5% were independent, 45.6% had mild, 15.8% moderate, 5.3% severe and 1.8% total dependence. Conclusions: The prevalence of sarcopenia in nursing homes in Pereira is higher compared to that reported in the literature. Similarly, being in a private nursing home does not guarantee a better physical condition and/or quality of life
