AbstractThis work aims to analyze the mitigation measures for the greenhouse gases emission (GHGs) into the environment –carbon credits– established in the Kyoto Protocol. These are based on the study of Coase Theorem, which suggests that the market properly assigns the property rights of the externalities caused by the different economic agents. Based in the results we can say that carbon credits are a form of environment financilization, which is creating in the practice pollution rights, allowing industrialized countries and polluting companies to reduce their GHG emissions in developing countries like Mexico through renewable energy projects where they find it more economical and profitable.

AbstractThis paper shows the analysis of citizen participation in the process of ecological land use planning. This is done by evaluating the skills that actors have to stablish the criteria that led to the shaping of environmental management units and its environmental policy. The results indicate that the participatory planning workshops are an effective tool for setting a thoughtful dialogue about common problems where different actors have the same opportunity to express their ideas and proposals.

Se muestran ejemplos de “Campesino a Campesino,” tanto un movimiento propio, como una metodología que otros movimientos sociales rurales han usado para llevar la agroecología a mayor escala y se analiza el proceso creciente de construcción de procesos de agroecología dentro del movimiento social transnacional, de movimientos rurales, organizaciones campesinas y agricultores familiares, La Vía Campesina (LVC).AbstractThe present article analyzes the phenomenon of agroecology in the current context of the dispute over rural spaces between, on the one hand, agribusiness and other corporate land grabbers, and on the other, organized farmers and their allies. Using the concepts of food sovereignty, disputed material and immaterial territories, and re-peasantization, we explain the importance of agroecology for rural social movements in this context. We provide examples from the "Farmer to Farmer" movement, a strategy that rural social movements have used to spread agroecology on a greater scale, and discuss the growing process of building agroecology processes within the transnational social movement La Via Campesina, which brings together rural movements, peasant organizations and family farmers

This research note’s objective is to discuss the theoretical and empirical relevance of the assortative mating process from the inequality and social stratification scope, as well to introduce the methodological strategy developed to compare the aforementioned process in Mexico City and Buenos Aires, which constitutes my doctoral research project. This note is organized in three sections. In the first one, we would discuss the theoretical approach that sustains this work. Later, we would introduce the results of previous research conducted in Latin America. Finally, we underline the main issues in our research program.

This article examines the global evolution of the modern family on two theoretical plans: in terms of its globalization/hybridization as well as regarding its answers to certain “existential questions” and how it relates to other social systems. It tries to argue, albeit with qualifications, for the idea of a global modernity and to make more complex that of autonomy of social systems. Also when it is not made explicit, these themes are closed related. We can therefore state that there is a tendency towards the development of the family, which changes it, opposed by another, originating in rutine and resistances, that tie it to pre-modern forms. Along the text some empirical examples (India, China, Latin America) aiming at sustaining the proposed conceptual moves.

While clientelism is an important tool used by political parties for electoral victory, the identity of the "client" is a relatively unexplored topic from a quantitative perspective. The case of Mexico is not an exception. This study provides evidence on a fundamental question: what are the contextual and individual factors affecting the probability of individual participation in a clientelist exchange? To answer this question, probit models were estimated using data from the "Panel Study of Mexico" 2000 and 2006. Unlike other studies, results show that voter’s individual characteristics do not decisively affect their chance of being a “client”, as opposed to the contextual situation.

In Bourdieu's analytical perspective, the historical dimension crosses individual and collective life as objectified history in things and as incorporated history under the form of an habitus. Recognizing a historical true does not necessarily imply an eternal trap: there is a dialectic of knowledge and freedom, there is a possibility of objectifying necessity and becoming a subject. And is precisely in history where we need to search for the principle of relative independence of reason, trying to learn, reveal, and control these conditionings. In that process, the sociologist and the historian, as intellectuals, play a fundamental role. They have special tools, occupy a specific social position, and can accomplish that role, starting with the objectification of the objectifying subject.
