This article deals with observing the path of the gender issue in a contemporary social movement in Argentina, from the prefigurative o pragmatic tendencies that shows the militant ethos. I have worked with in-depth interviews, field observations and analysis of the documents produced by a contemporary social movement: the Frente Popular Darío Santillán (FPDS). The results of my work corroborate the presence of a prefigurative ethos in relation to the gender issue as they help to relativize the sharp divisions between the 'old' and 'new' models of militancy, finding continuities and ruptures between them; these results are part of the overall conclusions of my master thesis in 2013.

Through this article we have tried, on the one hand, to carry out a theoretical analysis about the combating of androcentrism in the perception of socio-economic development sought by some international agencies and, on the other hand, to address the influence of feminism on the development proposed by some international organizations from a socioeconomic perspective, using the gender perspective as a key tool for analysis and intervention. In this regard, women’s international agenda in [127] development has been determined by a number of different approaches that have been defined from a welfare perspective, as in the case of the “welfare approach”; from an economic perspective, as it is the case for the “women in development approach”; or from an analytical and transforming point of view, as in the “gender in development” and in the “gender and human development approaches”.

The development of feminist theory and gender studies in Mexico cannot be understood without the work of Graciela Hierro. The aim of this article is to show the lasting value of her ethical proposal for a feminist education, as well as recognizing her contributions. I will deal with this in three sections: in the first one I will present her feminist ethics as a foundation of an education for women; in the second I will carry out a brief historical review of the philosophy of education from the viewpoint of Mexican female philosophers, and in the third, I will show the practical implications of the ethics of pleasure in women formation, from childhood to old age. My principal thesis is that Hierro’s ethics constitute the fundamentals for a philosophy of education that originates from feminist geneaology to Mexican culture through the visibilization of the legacy of local thinkers, that, from different standpoints, have reflected upon the “female question”.

This article presents preliminary findings from a research project which explores contemporary practices and beliefs related to power and feminine, in self-ascribed women to institutionalized and non-institutionalized religious communities, who have a leadership position within them. It begins by considering the biography and work of the catalan benedictine nun Teresa Forcades, and then discusses the articulation between gender category and her feminist theology. Based on her dialogue with Judith Butler, Jacques Lacan and Paul B. Preciado, it concludes that her theology and leadership are significant because of their dissidents passages in between religious, political and social spaces; transits which are possible and necessary facing the XXI century demands.

We explore the processes to create kinship bonds made by women who adopt in Buenos Aires as single parents. These considerations stem from a broader research, in which we have frequently observed among heterosexual couples meanings and values that intend to reinforce the belonging of the adopted to the new kinship group, without challenging the traditional model of family substitution. However, during the work of interviews with women who have decided to adopt regardless of couple formation, we find that they are often granted older children with more present affective ties. We argue that given these circumstances, sometimes unwanted, single parent adoptions, although not representing an alternative model, may propitiate more flexible and inclusive kinship connections.

In scholarly resarch on the Caribbean it has become a common topic to understand the region in terms of afrodescendencia and négritude (blackness). With that a certain tendency to enclose the so diverse cultural space of the Caribbean and Central America in a new limited and essentialist conception has been taken place, by this prescinding from the multiple and complex processes of transcultural convergency in the course of its history. However, as early as the seventies and eighthies of the XX century have been emerging comprehensive and innovative essays in and from the Caribbean itself that introduce new dimensions in the debates on caribbeaness, antillanité, mestizaje, creoleness, etc. In Caribbean and Central American literatures numerous oeuvres have beenemerging that pick out as a central theme, ironize, and parody the search for an exclusively black identity of the Caribbeans and the efforts to return to “Mother Africa”. This essay presents an analysis of this phenomena in four novels from the francophone and hispanophone Caribbeans: Ti Jean l’horizon (1979) by Simone Schwarz-Bart (Guadaloupe), Calypso (1996) by Tatiana Lobo (CostaRica), Limón Blues (2002) by Anacristina Rossi (Costa Rica) and Black is black (2008) by Raphaël Confiant (Martinique).
