ABSTRACTThe purpose of this research has been to analyze the impact of the “ENFOCÁTE” programme in selective and focalized attention in the third level Primary children at the Trajano school in Mérida.  The sample was made by 43 children aged 8-9.  Two tests were given to all of them: the caras test and D2 test, after the test, the “ENFÓCATE” programme, designed to improved atentional process, were given to 24 students and after that, we passed the tests again with all the students. The results indicate that we can’t stand by that using this programme has been effective to improve selective and focalized attention on the sample.  Nevertheless, it would be neccesary to improve another future studies where conditions in application will change and so we will see the effects with more details. The results indicate that under the conditions in which the study was conducted it can’t be considered that the implementation of the program has been effective on its own (due to participant’s evolution time) to improve selective and focalized attention of the participants. However, we believe that the results cannot be extrapolated and it would be necessary to develop future studies with different conditions to develop the program in order to continue measuring accurately its effectiveness. We believe that researches like this should lead to reflection on how and under what conditions psycho-educational programs are applied to be truly effective.

ABSTRACTMentoring is one of the main functions carried out by teachers on a daily basis in which a great deal of coordination and interaction is needed with the various entities involved a child’s education, where a fundamental role is working with the families. Numerous studies have shown that there are many benefits when there is a good relationship between families and the school, the benefits being as much for the families as well as the school. Despite this, there are few instruments available for use in Spain to assess what families think about the mentoring processes in which their students are immersed. The purpose of this paper is to present the process of design and validation of a scale aimed at understanding the perception and satisfaction of families regarding the mentoring process in primary schools. The scale was applied to a sampling of 895 families and consists of 41 Likert-type questions grouped into six areas. The reliability reached a Cronbach alpha total of 0.910. After analysing the data, it can be concluded that the instrument meets the requirements of validity and reliability, which shows that the scale has sufficient scientific rigor. It is adapted for the Spanish population, and is able to show families’ satisfaction with the mentoring, the processes and functions of the tutor, the guidance counsellor, family involvement and the use of ICT.

ABSTRACTThe aim of the study is to provide measures of the main constructs of Social Cognitive Career Theory that are reliable, valid and adjusted to the Spanish educational context. This methodological approach materializes in the scientific-mathematical field through five scales: self-efficacy, outcome expectations, interest, support and contextual barriers and occupational objectives/considerations. The study comprises three phases. First a review of the literature was carried out in order to identify instruments which could be adapted to the context and the target population: Spanish secondary school students. Next, specific methodological procedures for the adaptation of these instruments were adopted. Finally, the instruments were applied to a sample of 1465 students from eight secondary schools in Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha and their psychometric properties were evaluated. Taken as a whole the results suggest that the proposed scales are reliable and valid measures of the constructs. The reliability coefficients of the scales vary between .76 and .91. Exploratory factor analyses suggested solutions aligned with the theoretical and conceptual structure of the scales. The scales also correlated with each other in a way consistent with the theory and previous research. Thus the work provides the researchers with a set of useful tools for the study of career development and career building of Spanish secondary school students from the sociocognitive point of view.

ABSTRACTThis paper consists in a validation of an observation record, for interactive groups in Learning Communities. The aim of the observation record is to analyze, up to what extent, the interactions that occur in the interactive groups are successful. Learning Communities is a project, which includes: interactions and participation of the school community. This project is made up of several interventions, one is Interactive groups are heterogeneous groups of students, working on the same activity and coordinated by a volunteer. The validation include: a review of the literature and an expert panel implementation, with the participation of 16 experts, they were participating in the Plan Learning Community Volunteer at theUniversityofGranada. The methodology is based on a transversal designed. The results showed the instrument as valid. The data were analyzed by calculating the intraclass correlation coefficient and analysis of variance, obtaining high significance. Finally, the items of an observation record and other research were connected to demonstrate consistency. In addition, there are a series of advices for using the observation record in practice, as well as suggestion for line of research in the future.

ABSTRACTThe economic crisis in Spain has meant that a large number of young people are either unemployed or have little job security. The knowledge society is excluding people with low educational attainment from the labor market. The article has two aims: a) To identify the competences most valued by employers when hiring a new worker b) To investigate employers’ opinions about hiring workers with low educational levels. The research involved 292 small and medium-sized local businesses selected by random sampling. The selection took into account the sector of activity and size of the enterprise. The data were obtained by means of: a) a questionnaire designed ad hoc for research b) a focus group with entrepreneurs and representatives of the Association of Women Entrepreneurs. The results show that the employers: 1) above all value responsibility, positive attitude towards work, initiative, adaptability and teamwork in personnel selection. 2) Relegate traditional factors such as experience or the ability to manage people when they hire a new worker. 3) Consider the formation of a job candidate an added value, but this is not one of the key issues when hiring. 4) Do not find it difficult to train newly hired workers with low educational levels. In conclusion, the entrepreneurs prioritize the personal qualities of workers and place less importance on the knowledge acquired in the formal education system

ABSTRACTThe first year of university studies is characterized by a new organizational, social and educational context that the student faces. This one is regulated by explicit and implicit standards that he/she must know in order to be a part of the student community. The approach to this phenomenon responds to the urgent question about what happens with the student when passing through the secondary education-superior education stage, what are the demands that arise from this process and how could they be supplied in an integral and contextualized way. In this sense, this paper aims to advance in the orientation analyses of needs that the student who is going through his/her first year of studies at Universidad Autónoma de Occidente (Cali-Colombia) has, in order to characterized the profile of these needs and to define which ones represent a major tendency. This research opts for a complementary perspective of the quantitative and qualitative approaches. The findings show that the transition between secondary and university results more intricate than other academic transitions, due to the fact that it becomes a complex and critic process that includes multiple vital transformations. Moreover, the teaching-learning practices, during the first year of studies, are one of the points that must be enhanced by the academic institution.

ABSTRACTThe rapid recognition on the part of the professorship of student with the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in the classroom, allows attending to the specific needs of these children, as well as the use of more appropriate psychological-pedagogical tools. Objetive: review the ADHD concept and diagnosis and fundamentally the existing pedagogical operational strategies in the classroom. Material and methods: an extensive bibliographical search was realized on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and published teaching methods. Results: both, the behavioural therapy, modifying teachers and parents’ behaviour, and the cognitive therapy, learning selfcontrol and self-regulation skills by the pupils to be applied in the classroom, have proved their effectiveness. However, a combination of both therapies will probably be the most effective, the mixed cognitive - behavioral therapy, associated with the administration of stimulant medications, suggested as front-line strategies with ADHD children. Conclusions: The training of the teachers, both in the knowledge of TDAH's current concept and the guidelines of cognitive - behavioral strategies form a part together with family and sanitary professional collaboration and involvement, to obtain a correct both social and educational integration.
