Pneumonia is a common and potentially serious infection that has a significant prevalence in childhood and causes more death than any other disease in the world in children under the age of 5. With the aim of characterizing the behavior of severe bacterial pneumonia in children under 1 year, admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit, in the 2nd semester of 2019. A descriptive, observational and retrospective study was conducted this year. The universe consisted of 37 patients who were diagnosed with pneumonia that required hospital admission and the sample was represented by 32 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The group of 0-4 months (50%), the male sex (68.8%), the rural area (71.9%), the route of admission by guard corps (56.3%), the hospital stay less than 72 hours in PICU (68.8%) and the independent nursing actions (46.8%), were the most significant findings found. The age group between 0-4 months, male and rural origin predominated in the study. The guard corps was the most widely used route of entry. Patients had a hospital stay of less than 3 days and independent nursing actions in severe bacterial pneumonia were the most widely used.

Micropropagation or in vitro propagation is the asexual propagation of plants using plant tissue culture (PTC) techniques. Despite the advantages of these techniques, the explants contamination, the asepsis in culture medium and the in vitro accumulation of ethylene in some species, have been a problem that affects the micropropagation. The recent application of silver nanoparticles (NPsAg) in micropropagation has become an effective tool for solving these issues. In addition, in laboratory studies it has been showed that NPsAg, at low concentrations, have a dose-respond effect on plant development, define as hormesis. In this article we reviewed the NPsAg effects on contamination reduction, inhibition of ethylene effects and development stimulation during micropropagation. Besides, they are an alternative to others applications in PTC and modern agriculture.

The genodermatoses constitutes a group of genetic diseases with affectation of the skin and their annexes. In Cuba, the National Program of Diagnostic, Attention and Prevention of Genetic diseases, in relation to the genodermatoses, don't have protocols for their diagnosis, treatment and pursuit. The objective of this study is to evaluate a methodology for the attention to the patients with genodermatosis. Was carried out in The Tunas, oriental county of Cuba, a quasi-experimental study, being applied the varying Delphy of the method of experts, being consulted a group of Cuban specialists of dermatology, genetics clinical doctor and pediatrics, with high scientific level and experience in the work with patient with genodermatoses. Being designed the methodology that proposes the protocol of the diagnosis, treatment and pursuit algorithm for these patients. 395 patients were studied assisted in the provincial Department of Medical Genetics. Were studied the prevalence rate, the stocking of cases diagnosed per year, the proportion of presented complications, the index of survival and lethality index and to relate the relating variables to the improvement of the state dermatologic and extracutaneous manifestations the statistical test of square Chi of Mc-Nemar was used, with a significance statistical p≤0,05. After having implemented the methodology, prevailed the neurofibromatosis, Ehlers Danlos syndrome and ichthyosis vulgaris; the stocking of cases diagnosed per year increased; they diminished the complications, prevailing the piodermitis (6.13%); the index of mortality was low (1.27%) with high index of survival (98.73%) and improvement of the manifestations dermatologic (MCNemar X2=90.41558, P=0.000000) and extracutaneous (McNemar X2=24.083334, P=0.000001). The methodology designed for the attention to patient with genodermatoses strengthens the National Program of Diagnostic, Attention and Prevention of Genetic Illnesses, demonstrating to be effective, with bigger number of diagnosed cases, smaller proportion of complications, high survival, low lethality and clinical improvement of the dermatologic and extracutaneous manifestations.

Introduction: in people with diabetes mellitus, ischemic heart disease shows morbidity and mortality 2-4 times higher than that observed in the general population. Objective: to describe the clinical characteristics of patients with diabetes mellitus complicated by ischemic heart disease. Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in 459 patients with diabetes mellitus, treated at the Endocrinology and Cardiology services of the "Carlos Manuel de Céspedes" Provincial General Hospital of the Bayamo municipality, Granma province, since January 1, 2015. until December 31, 2020. Statisticians: Chi Square and Student's T.Results: the frequency of arterial hypertension (0.0000), left ventricular hypertrophy (0.0000), smoking (0.0128) and other vascular complications of diabetes was higher in patients with ischemic heart disease than in those without. have this complication. Likewise, the cases with ischemic heart disease exhibited an age (0.0000), a time of DM (0.0000) and levels of HA1c (0.0002), cholesterol (0.0266), triglycerides (0.0432), ratio cholesterol/HDL (0.0001), microalbuminuria (0.0000) and uric acid (0.0000), significantly higher than those without ischemic heart disease. Conclusions: patients with diabetes complicated by ischemic heart disease have a higher frequency of cardiovascular risk factors than those without this complication. Other research is necessary to determine the role of these factors in the development of the disease.
