Research in the area of "‹"‹ English as a Foreign Language teaching/learning has focused on learners with a pre-intermediate to advanced level, not entirely taking into account those students with a lower level. This study aims at contributing to the knowledge about EFL beginner learners (A1) in relation to the available lexicon in 3 interest centers: (1) food and drink, (2) school supplies and school materials and (3) family members. To achieve this objective, a lexical availability survey was applied to 6th graders in a Chilean school. The results revealed that the lexical availability center that boosted larger entries was "food and drink". In addition, this center of interest was the one that registered fewer repeated words. According to these results, the answers provided by these informants are consistent with what is proposed by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages "‹"‹for an English learner with an A1 level. The data collected in this study is intended to be a contribution for researchers and EFL teachers.

Abstract This article focuses in the textual inscriptions through which Augusto D'Halmar represents his homosexuality at the beginning of the 20th century. Through the study of Nirvana (1918) and La sombra del humo en el espejo (1924), it is suggested that D'Halmar performs a "˜pose' –more precisely, an "˜autobiographical pose' (Amaro)– that exhibits, in its (textual) body, the diseased signs of homoerotic desire. Likewise, it is proposed that his writing operates as a mirror – "˜utopia' and "˜heterotopia' (Foucault)– in which the d'halmarian subject projects at the same time as it blurs the abjection of an outlawed desire. In this way, the author polemicizes with the official discourses of the Chilean nation that, from the end of the 19th century until well into the 20th century, tries to expel any problematic sexuality from its national body.  

Our object of study is the analysis of the teaching of Spanish grammar in Colombian schools during the 19th century. To do this, we have based on a corpus of works published in the country between 1826 and 1889, which had a notable influence on the education of the subject at hand. We have analyzed the grammatical doctrines present in the corpus works, in which we follow the canon theory (Zamorano Aguilar, 2010a). To do this, we study the references on the covers to authors considered fundamental, as well as the information contained in the paratexts. To the explicit citations of the canon throughout the work, we add the implicit references, which we find in the analysis of morphology and syntax; in particular, we attend to the study of the verb. We have verified that there is an evolution in grammatical doctrine and that, from the theoretical-methodological point of view, four trends can be established.

This article studies how Victoria Ocampo writes about Domingo Faustino Sarmiento at different times in her career as a woman in the Argentine intellectual field. For that, the references to Domingo Faustino Sarmiento in Sur and Autobiografí­a will be relieved. It is proposed to investigate how Ocampo appropriates the figure of Sarmiento as a spokesperson for his ideas about education and women to build a deliberate authorship affiliation with him.

Los estudios imagenológicos permiten evaluar de forma global la cavidad abdominal. Las malformaciones vasculares intraabdominales son entidades poco frecuentes, la mayoría cursa de forma asintomática. Se expone el uso de los medios diagnóstico de imágenes en la detección de una malformación arterio-venosa asintomática de páncreas, en paciente con otra sintomatología. Paciente de 31 años, kenyana, que acude a la emergencia del Hospital Cubano de Catar, aquejando dolor en bajo vientre y fosa iliaca derecha (FID), reacción peritoneal, leucograma negativo y proteína C reactiva elevada. Se descartaron patologías ginecológicas, gastrointestinales y urinarias. Se indicó ultrasonido y posteriormente TAC con contraste endovenoso (EV) abdomino-pélvico, que demostró mioma uterino sub-seroso e imagen tumoral hiper-vascularizada en proceso uncinado de páncreas, compatible con malformación arterio-venosa. Fue remitida a las especialidades de ginecología, cirugía y gastroenterología. Sugerimos tener siempre presente enfermedades poco frecuentes en el curso de patologías comunes. Publicar imágenes de patologías raras, ofrece patrón de comparación para futuros diagnósticos.

Introduction: breastfeeding is the ideal and superior form of nutrition for full-term newborns and exclusively up to 6 months of age.Objective: to characterize the factors that are related to the early abandonment of exclusive breastfeeding.Methods: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in 27 mothers who abandoned exclusive breastfeeding before the baby was 6 months old. A questionnaire was designed to collect the information that analyzed the following variables: maternal age, schooling, occupation, marital status, parity, history of early weaning, type of delivery and reasons why breastfeeding was abandoned, techniques of descriptive statistics: absolute and relative frequency (number and percentage) as summary measures.Results: the age group of 15 to 19 years of the mothers studied was the most representative with 40.7% and the level of higher education with 48.1%, 55.6% of the mothers were single and the same percentage of students, 66.6% of the mothers were nulliparous and multiparous with a history of early weaning prevailed, joining the study, the feeling of lack of milk production and mastalgia were some of the causes referred by the respondents.Conclusions: maternal age, history of previous early weaning, incorporation into student life, feeling of lack of milk production, mastalgia and cracks in the nipples were the main factors related to the abandonment of breastfeeding. 

Introduction: during the last decades, various predictive models of mortality have been developed, but only a limited number of them have been specifically designed to estimate surgical mortality in the elderly. Objective: analyze the characteristics of the predictive models of mortality used in the elderly with acute abdomen surgical. Development: the review was carried out using search engines such as Google Scholar, were consulted 112 articles in spanish and english in the databases of SciELO, Pubmed and Dialnet. Conclusions: APACHE II score and the POSSUM scale are the more reliable mortality predictive models, disseminated and used worldwide in the older adult with acute surgical abdomen. It will be necessary to unify variables of these models and add the physiological fragility of the elderly in order to achieve a more reliable and safe in this specific patient population.

La pandemia de Covid-19 ha modificado pautas en la práctica clínica de especialidades como la Medicina Física y Rehabilitación. Se realizó esta comunicación con el objetivo de abordar las principales técnicas de fisioterapia respiratoria en convalecientes de Covid-19 y la evidencia generada de sus resultados.

Introduction: neurocutaneous melanosis is a non-hereditary congenital disorder characterized by the association of multiple or large pigmented nevi and an excessive proliferation of melanocytes in the central nervous system. The incidence is similar in both sexes, and a family history of melanoma is observed in a single case.Case presentation: this is a male neonate born at the General Hospital of Luanda in Angola, with a giant melanic spot that extends from the neck, face, chest, abdomen, back and upper limbs, requires surveillance of dermal lesions and control of seizures.Discussion: reviews of the available medical literature on the subject were conducted, consulting the Oxford genetics program, and photos of outstanding clinical features were taken. Usually the neurological symptoms are of early onset in the neonatal or infant stage with the presence of seizures that are difficult to control, creating a reserved prognosis.Conclusions: it is considered important to monitor neurodevelopment in a multidisciplinary way for timely intervention if necessary.
