Introduction: cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of morbidity and mortality, despite improvements in clinical results and the introduction of new drugs. Objective: to evaluate the influence of risk factors in the development of cardiovascular diseases in adults aged 18 years or older.Method: a retrospective study of cases and controls was carried out in patients diagnosed with cardiovascular disease who attend the internal medicine service of the General University Hospital "Carlos Manuel de Céspedes", Bayamo, Granma, from January 5, 2017 to December 31, 2018. Within the risk factors, age, gender, comorbidity and biological markers were taken into account. Results: among the qualitative variables, smoking was the most important factor (OR: 3.60; CI: 1.664-7.787; p: 0.001) while among the quantitative variables it was systolic hypertension (OR: 11.50; CI: 1457-90896, p: 0.004). Multivariate analysis showed that systolic hypertension was the most relevant independent risk factor (OR: 11.52; 95% CI: 3.077-43.168; p: 0.000) followed by having a history of diabetes mellitus (OR: 5.91 ;95% CI: 1674-20910).Conclusions: systolic hypertension stands out as the most important independent risk factor, followed by suffering from diabetes mellitus and being 60 years of age or older.

Introduction: chemotherapy triples the risk of myocardial toxicity. Along with second neoplasms, it is the most frequent cause of mortality in long-surviving breast cancer patients. Objective: to identify the risk factors for early cardiotoxicity due to chemotherapy in patients with breast cancer.Method: a prospective longitudinal study of a single cohort was carried out, with 224 patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy treatment followed up in the cardio-oncology consultation of the specialties polyclinic at the General Provincial Hospital "Carlos Manuel de Céspedes", Bayamo, Granma, Cuba, in the period from January 15, 2019 to March 23, 2021. Independent predictors of cardiotoxicity were obtained using multivariate logistic regression. Results: the prevalence of cardiotoxicity was 19.2% with a mean age of 60.4 years ±12.7; Hypertension, dyslipidemia and other risk markers for cardiovascular diseases such as diabetes mellitus (RR 2.8), hypertensive heart disease (RR 7.8), left ventricular hypertrophy (RR 3.3) and epicardial fat > 6 mm, were variables significantly related to the risk of cardiotoxicity. Conclusions: hypertensive heart disease, left ventricular hypertrophy, Diabetes Mellitus, age ≥65 years and dyslipidemia increased the risk of cardiotoxicity and were significantly related to it, therefore, they turned out to be risk factors with independent influence on cardiotoxicity. The results obtained allow us to plan studies to predict the development and reversibility of cardiotoxicity in high-risk patients receiving cardioprotective treatments.

Introduction: chronic kidney disease and arterial hypertension constitute a public health problem. Hypertensive heart disease is within the spectrum of complications due to these two nosological entities. Objective: to identify the influence of the different risk factors for the development of hypertensive heart disease in patients diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. Methods: a case-control study was carried out in patients who were admitted to the Internal Medicine and Nephrology services, as well as HTA outpatients of the "Carlos Manuel de Céspedes" Provincial General Hospital of Bayamo in the period from the 1st from January 2019 to March 31, 2021.Results: the binary logistic regression model adjusted by the backward stepwise method showed that only 11 variables were sufficient for an adequate fit of the model and adequate discriminative capacity (area under the curve: 0.945). The outstanding factors were, in order of importance, the non-control of hypertension, the time of evolution and the C-reactive protein. Conclusions: a model is obtained to predict the development of hypertensive heart disease in patients with chronic kidney disease, with adequate discriminative capacity based on risk factors.

Treatment of class III malocclusions in growing patients is usually performed with intraoral or extraoral braces. The objective was to analyze the skeletal changes by treating class III malocclusions with twin blocks. A systematic review was carried out following the PRISMA 2009 version guidelines. Searches were carried out in the Pubmed, Embase, Scopus and Cochrane databases, as well as in a gray literature database, and were supplemented by hand searches. Five articles were included, of which the following variables were recorded: author, year of publication, country, and results. According to the reviewed bibliography, class III twin blocks constitute a therapeutic option that produces an improvement in facial aesthetics by modifying the maxillomandibular skeletal relationship, the anterior dental occlusion relationship, and the position of the soft tissues.

The knowledge society has caused changes in the way knowledge is generated and transmitted; That is why the role of the university today is to provide learning in students in correspondence with the economic, cultural and social development of each country. For this reason, the virtual environment Health Statistics was designed as a didactic tool to strengthen distance education in Nursing. A development research was carried out between September 2018 and June 2020 at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Bayamo "Efraín Benítez Popa. To develop the virtual learning environment, the Moodle platform was used. For the design and evaluation of the software, a configuration of RUP (for its acronym, Rational Unified Process), the Delphi method and the Kendall coefficient of agreement W were used. A tool was implemented that allows teachers to manage online virtual courses to support face-to-face teaching. Its design provides ease of use and management, allows the administration of user profiles, the management of activities and resources of the created courses, and the administration of the site. The software developed is a flexible didactic tool oriented to the user for the management of the basic contents of Health Statistics and responds to the needs of the model of the teaching-learning process of this subject.

The future of contemporary science calls for a moral conscience and ethics for science, the assumption of feelings, values, norms, duties and responsibilities for the work and scientific work in particular for professionals involved in the use of radiation ionizing. The objective of this work is to carry out a bibliographic review on the bioethical considerations related to the use of ionizing radiation as an expression of scientific-technological development, to contribute to raising social responsibility in its use in the Imaging Service of the Provincial General Teaching Hospital “Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola” of Ciego de Ávila. To obtain the information, a search was carried out in bibliographic databases from 2015-2019, in the scientific literature of the Cuban VHL such as PubMed/Medline and Lilacs. Information sources available in full text, such as SciELO Cuba and Ebsco, were consulted. The knowledge related to the insufficiencies detected in relation to the lack of social perception about the risks that ionizing radiation implies for the health of patients, relatives, exposed workers, as well as for the environment due to lack of an adequate Culture of Radiological safety.
