Chagas' disease is a Latin America cndemic diimss. After several decades of insecticide spraying, Chagas prevalence dcereasecl mn several countries as a consequenee of the elimination of jis vectors (Triatoniinae bugs) from fonnerly highly infested arcas. Now, the challenge is tn maintain efficient lvels of epide miological surveillanee in order lo kccp su!l or very 10w the vectorial transmnission of the disease. Thisaruele presents an eclucational proposal lo he applied al the highcst level of the EGB. The goal is lo involve children as surveillance agents lo dctect iriatomnine hugs iii houses and peridomestic siructures. Thc proposal ¡las heen partially carried out al the School 270 of Anjullón (La Rioja); preliminamy results arediscussed.

This article presents a didactic strategy for the teaching of science with focus on environment, al secon dary achool level. The basic strategy is the open solution of a real problem. The influence of the Argentinc Biology Olympiad (0A13) un the university elcction by the students in analysed. Rcsults showed thai OAB contributes significanlly un thai choice. The 83% of the students cho se careers related tu the Biological Sciences. They expressed thai the fact tu compite in the Olympiad po sitively inlluericed in their acadcmic yield. Thcy remarked that their participation allowed thetn tu deve lop their synthesis capacity and tu gel mm effectivc study methodology. Another aspect named as valuablc is the opportunity thai OAB gives tu share activitics and experiences among teen-agers of the whole country.
