Over the past few years, the amnesic wall fronts of Franco’s regime and of the Spanish transition are being cracked by a need for pain relief of the democratic heritage, which is deluging one strand of social struggle that has an effect on literature. In this paper, we carefully analyse, from a sociolinguistic approach, La sierra en llamas (1952) and Siempre quedará París (2005). From different viewpoints and quite different allocutions and narrative apparatus, both novels recall anti-Francoist guerrillas dating from the mid-20th century. So far, this is a not seriously considered episode, since it is rather underestimated. It seems to be a trauma that has culminated in the practice of collective guilt, without any responsibility, but which is dealt with by literature. In these two titles one can appreciate a symbolic military arm tied to some kind of displaced Francoism that looks forward to its defeat from victory. Núñez Seixas, (2005) calls them «The defeated victors» and could be considered as a crossroads fight to ride out the downturn in order to move past dereliction.

In Brazil, one of the forerunners of children's literature is Monteiro Lobato, an author who took notice of some of the characteristics experienced by others and of the fact that the school of those times was starting to introduce reading into the daily activities of school, at the same time that books targeted to children were being produced. Thus, we will seek to identify the construction of work on children, especially the findings on the preferences of infant readers during the '20s and '30s of the XXth century, as it is the case of orality and other features clearly recorded in the editions of his works. We will undertake an analysis taking as corpus the editions of The Girl Upturned Little Nose (1920) and the first chapter "Narizinho snub" (1934) of the Reinações Narizinho. From this analysis, one can see the reasons why Monteiro Lobato made changes in order to reach children readers. It served to establish himself as one of the greatest authors of Brazilian children's literature of all time.

In this paper we propose to perform a critical reading assignment of the phenomenological philosophy of Merleau-Ponty about language in order to problematize our work as teachers in the area of Language & Literature and to think about a possible foundation our praxis. The starting point motivates our research is the recognition that we are experiencing a complex situation in which language seems to be reduced to an informative code –with claims of transparency and neutrality–, to the detriment of its truly symbolic and expressive value.

This essay suggests a reading of the literary production of Vincenzo Consolo through the dialectic that the historical and literary and linguistic metaphor establishes in the intertextual tissue of his writing. The historical periods which Consolo chooses as the background and scenery for the vicissitudes and experiences of its characters have been of crucial importance in Italian national history, and precisely for this reason, they are highly recurrent as a representation of the present this referred to the autor. To express the conception of the world in which we live, and its possible action on it, is an essential way for Consolo to resort to the topographic metaphor and the metaphor of nostos (of the omnipresent quote of the return journey narrated in the Odyssey), and the recovery of linguistic terms of the past. It is an entire lexical heritage capable of counteracting the emptiness of the terminology of mass communications media.

El blocao (1928) was the first José Diaz Fernández’s novel. It meant a unique editorial success until then because it included three original characteristics: a critical attitude face with Morocco’s war; an incorporation of the avant-garde innovations that its author named (called) “advanced literature”; and a positioning (placing) of intellectual close to popular demands.            However, although he published another novel one year later (La Venus mecánica), a theoretical book in which he defined the literature that he proposed and practiced (El nuevo romanticismo) and also some other short stories, Díaz Fernández underwent a kind of creative narrative blockage and left the narrative literature of which he had left very high expectations. Our work tries to analyze the possible causes of this writer’s creative jamming in narrative.

This article reveals the alleged struggle against the metaphor that Kafka starts in light of, mainly, the last sentence of The Trial’s, chapter X. By establishing a dialogue with some interpreters and in order to realize a wider reading of the sentence, the metaphor is subjected to yield , from itself, and from its very frame of the Kafkian process. Josef K.’s “Die like a dog” is the end of all  the process’s framework (from the beginning and with no way out). It shows that the “metaphor” is the universe that establishes a destined expectation in the impossibility to be other.
