Resumen
Purpose: Two hospitals in Granada are involved in a pioneering experience to implement innovative measures to support caregivers. Two years after the onset of that initiative, the question is: Are the measures implemented achieving the expected benefits for caregivers during hospitalization? A study was conducted to answer that question by evaluating the effectiveness of those measures, including suggestions for improvement. Study Materials and Methods: This is a qualitative, interpretive study based on grounded theory. Forty-five (45) in-depth interviews were conducted at the Virgen de las Nieves and Baza hospitals with caregivers who have different profiles. The strategy for analysis involved constant comparison and open and axial coding, supported by Atlas.ti® software. Results: The caregivers reacted positively to most of the measures, highlighting personalization, education, accommodation and priority access. Use of the term nurse and auxiliary nurse as a form of identification has not always worked well. Only limited use has been made of the areas outfitted for rest and relaxation, mainly due to their location. Conclusions: The measures implemented have improved the well-being and self-esteem of caregivers during hospitalization. Moreover, they provide evidence that encourages their extension to other hospitals to improve the way this group is treated and the support it receives.

Resumen
Purpose: The study was designed to determine the consequences of adult patients using disposable diapers and to discuss the implications this has for nursing care. Method: A survival analysis study was conducted through direct and systematized observation. Forty-three patients over 18 years of age who use disposable diapers were observed for a period of 30 days at the medical unit of a large hospital in the Department of São Paulo. Findings: All 43 patients in the sample (100%) experienced events subsequent to the use of disposable diapers. The events observed include use of a urinary pouch, use of a delaying urinary catheter, the presence of dermatitis and pressure ulcers, and altered state of consciousness and orientation. Conclusion: A relationship between the indiscriminate use of diapers and the quality of patient care and safety was detected. Observance of the implications of the use of disposable diapers in nursing care for patients is recent and requires further studies.

Resumen
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand how persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus who reside in a community in the State of Mexico view their illness. Study Materials and Methods: An ethnographic approach was used to support the data analysis. The study was conducted at a primary health care center. It involved eight people who came to the clinic for nursing consultation during the period between December 2009 and July 2010. The ethical aspects particular to the research were respected. Results: Listening to patients who live with diabetes enabled the authors to enter the world of this disease through their stories. Conclusions: An ethnographic approach made it possible to understand the meaning patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus give to their illness, from the standpoint of beliefs and habits. As they described it, their experience enables them to resist the persistence of the disease.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate if the Weight Control Perceived Self-efficacy Inventory (WC-PSE) is reproduciblein a Mexican college population. Methods and materials: This is an observational and prolective process study. Sixty subjects from twogeographical regions of Mexico were invited to answer the WC-PSE on two separate occasions. Findings: The Content Validity Index was0.96. The mean difference in the test retest was <4 in all domains; the intra-class correlation coefficient was >0.7; Cronbach’s coefficientwas α=.95. The inventory was sensitive to detecting differences according to gender and degrees of body mass index. Conclusion: TheWC-PSE inventory is reproducible and sensitive for application to a Mexican college population. DOI: 10.5294/aqui.2015.15.1.5

Resumen
Introduction: The growing volume of information originating with nursing records demands strategies for managing the data that is produced in a way that avoids the disadvantages of case histories kept on paper. Purpose: The study was intended to develop software applicable to the systematization of nursing care, so as to provide nurses with efficient and quick computerized records. Methodology: This is a methodological study, with technological production, and is divided into three phases: construction of diagnostic categories and nursing interventions, validation of diagnostic categories, and software development. The system was built on the Java platform, using JavaServer Faces (JSF) as a framework and featuring the J2EE specification to readily develop web applications. Findings: The database consists of 143 nursing diagnostic categories and 130 references to nursing interventions. The respective software shows 17 screens that include data on identification and complete physical examination of the newborn, organized according to basic human needs, along with a list of nursing diagnoses and interventions suggested by the program and a final sheet for printing. Final considerations: The software provides the nursing process with a complete, uniform and quick record, and constitutes an important source of data for research.

Objective: Identify the association between perceived social support and coping on the part of people with chronic nonmalignant pain in the city of Tunja (Colombia). Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive, correlational study with a quantitative, cross-sectional design. The sample included 340 persons with chronic nonmalignant pain. The analysis was done using descriptive statistics and the correlation was determined with the Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The persons with chronic nonmalignant pain who took part in the study were mostly women; specifically, housewives ages 36 to 59 who are in the low socio-economic bracket and have different levels of education. The majority had neurosurgical or neurological diseases, followed by those of bone or joint origin. They had been in pain for more than three years and its intensity was severe. A high perception of social support was found, along with considerable use of coping strategies, particularly religion. The study revealed a weak statistically significant correlation between perceived social support and coping in persons with chronic pain, and between perceived social support and active coping. Conclusions: Social support interventions tailored to the contexts and environments users find themselves in should be considered as initiatives to strengthen the coping strategies of persons with chronic nonmalignant pain.
