Aquest article és un breu resum dels principals aspectes tractats en el projecte de tesi doctoral –en procés de realització– on s’analitzen tant la crisi econòmica i social que s’ha produït en els últims anys com els discursos explicatius que s’han traslladat a l’opinió pública, i també, finalment, com aquests han estat llegits per la ciutadania i com l’experiència dels individus i la lectura que en fan han transformat els seus valors i actituds.Farem una breu anàlisi bibliogràfica sobre dos dels aspectes claus tractats: en primer lloc, el concepte de Mediterrània com a oposat a Europa i carregat d’un simbolisme associat a estereotips negatius (irresponsabilitat, malbaratament, irracionalitat…), i en segon lloc, les principals transformacions socioeconòmiques anteriors i contemporànies a la crisi financera actual. Ambdós elements, entenem, permeten contextualitzar el procés viscut, alhora que situen els punts de vista dels informants consultats al voltant d’aspectes de la seva identitat i de l’anàlisi de la realitat socioeconòmica; les opinions dels informants constitueixen el nucli de l’article.

Aquest article és fruit d’una recerca etnogràfica realitzada com a treball de fi de màster d’antropologia mèdica. Exposarem els eixos principals d’una recerca que ha pretès visualitzar com l’apropiació idealitzada i quasi màgica del discurs de les neurociències produeix un efecte terapèutic de contenció de l’angoixa i de la culpa en els pares d’infants amb TDAH (trastorn per dèficit d’atenció o hiperactivitat), després d’una llarga trajectòria de desorientació i de patiment que constata com les relacions estructurals de dominació social acaben assignant al seu fill el rol de boc expiatori d’un determinat sistema social.

 The purpose of this article is to consider the extent to which individuals are institutionalized by a religious tradition. I will base my discussion on Whitehouse’s theory of ‘modes of religiosity’ and a brief description of three life histories of Western individuals who joined the Hare Krishna movement (ISKCON). I shall attempt to analyze how they use their knowledge of this tradition to readjust and reinterpret their religious beliefs and practices from the perspective of a local and global mode of institutionalization. I shall also briefly discuss these institutional dynamics which, at the same time, create equality and alterity so that individuals can possess a sense of both religious identity and belonging to a religious community.

This text basically addresses two complementary issues: one is racism and the other is a criticism of theoretical trends generated between 1970 and 1990. In the case of racism, which we consider to have been in existence before the development of capitalism, we argue that, to date, it has been one of the principal strategies of exclusion, subordination and hegemony, even during the neoliberal period. We place particular emphasis on the ethnocentrism/racism continuity, because in some situations the ethnocentrism inherent in all societies can lead to various forms of racism. We also argue that the theoretical currents mentioned here not only ignore racism, but are ethnocentric, a-historic and characterized by ‘presentism’. These features can be used by neoliberal policies to give role to differences, to make a rare reference or even express indifference towards inequalities, and to deny problems of truth.

The fall of communism in Central and Eastern Europe and the emergence of two independent states — the Czech and the Slovak Republic — brought wide-ranging changes in the perception of the identity of the inhabitants of these states. The division of the former Czechoslovakia established new borders, which, nevertheless, did not have any big effects on either the migratory movements between the newly founded states or the perception of the group identity of some of the Roma/Gypsy groups in respective countries. The EU integration process in recent years has given rise to new opportunities – movements of people, job opportunities and more intensive labour migrations. In this text we discuss the identity problem of a Roma/Gypsy group and the effect that the social and political changes that have emerged in the last 20 years have had on their perception of who they are. In particular, our investigation focuses on questions of identity (local identity, kinship identity, state identity, European identity and the trans-national Roma identity). We will discuss relationships between various strata of identities and the extent to which these relationships are influenced by the contemporary processes of EU integration.

L’Ebola, aquesta greu epidèmia que l’Àfrica pateix en aquests moments (i que segurament ja ha patit altres vegades) i de la qual nosaltres rebem unes ínfimes conseqüències que vivim amb gran esverament, pot servir-nos d’exemple per fer-nos veure que l’antropologia (i també altres ciències socials i humanes com la lingüística, la història i branques de la mateixa antropologia, com ara l’etnografia, l’etnolingüística, l’etnobotànica i l’etnozoologia) pot servir-nos per fer-nos entendre que el coneixement de tot l’entorn (social, cultural, històric...) de l’Ebola o de qualsevol altre desordre orgànic és indispensable per entendre, curar o millorar la situació d’aquell fenomen biològic que per entendre’ns anomenem «malaltia».

En l'apartat de Col·laboracions es publiquen els resultats de les darreres recerques del Dr. Eduardo Menéndez i del Dr. Lluís Mallart. També es ressenyen la darrera publicació de la Dra. Josepa Cucó, La ciudad pervertida. Una mirada sobre la Valencia global, i la del Dr. Jaume Franquesa, Urbanismo neoliberal, negocio inmobiliario y vida vecinal. El caso de Palma (Dr. Joan Josep Pujadas). A més, es donen a conèixer les investigacions que en aquests moments duen a terme al DAFITS i es fa una crònica de la posada en marxa de la Càtedra Àngel Palerm.
