Resumen
The growing interest in the quality of life of people with developmental disorders is important for decision making and designing care programs, developing resources, guidelines, strategies and relevant criteria for differential provision of resources and support. A good predictor of quality of life is self-determination which seeks to develop strategies focused on the person and their needs from a holistic perspective for life and development. Advances in the understanding and the development of theoretical models and practices aimed at promoting self-determination demonstrate the importance of knowing the effect of individual and environmental conditions on the acquisition of skills that enable a person to act as a causative agent of their life. The aim of this study is to analyze the results of major research studying the role of these conditions on the acquisition and expression of self-determination in adolescents with intellectual disabilities. Documentary research is used for the study of documents of the past fifteen years published in leading databases of education and psychology. The results show the impact and correlation of multiple factors on learning and expression of self-determination. The results and their impact on the design of training programs in self-determination in adolescence are discussed.

Resumen
This study explores the Burnout Syndrome through CESQT inventory (Gil-Monte, 2011) and its relationship with psychosocial factors (role related stress, supervision, organizational characteristics, professional worries and lack of professional recognition assessed by the CBP-R questionnaire (Moreno Jiménez, Garrosa Hernández, & González Gutiérrez, 2000). A sample of 71 primary school teachers from private schools in Montevideo participated in this study. According to the results of the CESQT, 21,4% (15 teachers) presented a severe level of Burnout Syndrome and 1,4% (1 teacher) also showed guilty feelings (Profile 2). Significant correlations were found between Role Stress, Organizational Work Conditions, Supervision, and Low Appreciation of Professional Performance, with Burnout Syndrome. Finally, we discuss teachers’ work-related health results and study limitations as well as suggestions for further research.

Resumen
The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between perfectionism (in its adaptive and maladaptive dimensions) and early maladaptive schemas (EMS) described by Young (1999), in a young adult university population (N = 307). Furthermore, the predictive role of the EMS and schema domains on the dimensions of perfectionism was examined. The Almost Perfect Scale-Revised (APS-R, Slaney et al 2001; adapted by Arana, Keegan & Rutsztein, 2009) and the Schema Questionnaire-Short Form (SF-SQ, Young & Brown, 1994) were used. Results of the correlation analysis showed that the scale Discrepancy from the APS-R (representative of the dysfunctional aspect of perfectionism) was significantly associated with all the EMS and schema domains proposed by Young. The subscales designed to evaluate the adaptive perfectionism, also had significant associations with dysfunctional beliefs, although to a much lesser extent, and in some cases being the relationship inverse. The multiple regression analysis showed that several domains of schemas and EMS were significant predictors of maladaptive perfectionism, while for the adaptive perfectionism the only schema domain that remained a significant predictor was Overvigilance and Inhibition and the EMS Unrelenting Standards.

Resumen
This research discusses the experiences of a group of people who decided for adoptive parenthood, after failing to conceive a child biologically. Hence they decided to start the adoption process in Chile. This work becomes relevant as it deals with a study field in which greater depth of analysis and expertise are required: identifying the needs of adoptive parents, expectations, feelings, and assessment of what is lived during the process of adoption. It was addressed from the phenomenological paradigm since it allows knowing the experiences of people through the phenomena that arise in the interaction between researcher/researched (Lyotard, 1960). Thus when interviewing people who successfully completed their adoption process, it was concluded that parents in the early phase of the process had positive feelings associated with the possibility of having a child. Nevertheless, as they moved through the different stages of this process, negative emotions arose due to the extensive delay of the procedure, recognizing anger, frustration, sadness, as the most recurrent emotions. Finally, once the child was received by his new family the feelings that emerged were associated with love, joy and commitment, generated by the fulfillment of the desired parenthood.

Resumen
The aim of this study was to analyze online lexical access in first-grade students according to the learning method used at school. To that end, we selected two groups of students depending on the learning method to read (global vs. synthetic - phonetic). We analyzed the responses of subjects based on verification rates (reading words) and time. We manipulated stimuli based on a set of criteria (degree of familiarity of the word, length and positional syllable frequency). Students who used overall method of decoding showed difficulties since their reading times in low familiarity words and low frequency positional syllabic were significantly higher. Students of the synthetic method proved more adept at decoding but their reading times were significantly higher in almost all parameters. These results confirm the idea that the method affects learning strategies used by students depending on the lexical and sublexical features of the word.

Resumen
Health and illness are human-interest concepts since the ancient times throughout our evolution as a species. During prehistory, evidence of trepanation suggests the existence of early conceptions and practices concerning the body and mental health. In the ancient cultures, such as the Assyrians, Babylonians, Egyptians and Greeks, these processes were associated with beliefs about infl uences of external spiritual entities and even demons over the mind and the body. The Greeks and Romans added new concepts to the medical practice, although several ancient precepts subsisted. Change in the frames of reference fi nally leads to the emergence of health psychology. The main objective of this article is to explore the evolution of the concepts of health and disease, reviewing its main variants with an emphasis on the old formulations. The approach taken is descriptive and based on the study of primary and secondary sources, predominantly the latter, in an attempt to differentiate the characteristics of the pre-scientifi c stage of psychology with current conceptions.
