Carles Salvador had strong nationalistic convictions and was very active in promoting the Catalan language in several areas, specifically in developing treatises on spelling, grammar and lexicography. His work would help consolidate the standardization of Catalan in the Valencian Country and would make him an unquestionable authority on Catalan grammar.

Martínez, Tomàs

The author argues that in his version of Séneca's De providentia, as indeed in other of his versions, Canals does not show any evidence of having assimilated the ideological tenets of the Humanism and the Renaissance. On the contrary: for him classical sources are merely used as means to underline an orthodox and religious discourse.

Pérez i Moragón, Francesc

The performance of commercial drama in Catalan was resumed in Valencia in 1945, once the harshest moment of the post-war was over. But the genre did not recover the vivacious spirit it had presented Up to 1936. The process of linguistic replacement, the stagnation of writers' aesthetic formulae, the change of habits in audiences and other factors practically resulted in its dissapearance off stage.

Gibert, Miquel Maria
Universitat de València
The author sets out the dramatic production of Joan Oliver and Salvador Espriu, two different ways of understanding the concept of theatrical literary creation and of interpreting projection requirements. Oliver, in general, presents the angle of the bourgeois comedy; the critical tone of the drama he produced before the Civil War either disappears or is considerably tempered. Espriu applies himself to a theatre with tragic roots, embellished with the combination of diverse elements, without taking the possibilities of immediate premiere performances into consideration.

The author presents a study of Joan Brossa's Scenic Poetry, both from a reading of the texts and by a follow-up and analysis of their consummation on stage. This is a first approach to the performances of the period comprised between 1947 and 1959, and an advance of basic general conclusions.

The authors have researched the renovating activities of the Teatre Estudi, nucleus of Lo Rat-Penat society, in which they distinguish two periods: the first, 1956-1957, under the presidency of Josep Alarte, and the second, 1958-1960, presided by Rafael Llorenç i Romaní. They offer a detailed follow-up of the plays performed for the first time, the mise-en-scène and the repercussion on audience attendance.

Gallén, Enric
Universitat de València
Throughout this work the author carries out a study of the trajectory of Catalan drama from the end of the Civil War to present times. The analysis of problems relating to censorship, the lack of infrastructure, the dialectics of commercial versus alternative theatre, the successive appearances of new theatrical writers and groups, the dominating theatrical norms and the important support provided in recent years by public institutions presents a perfect scan of the issues Catalan drama has faced during the mentioned period.
