Resumen
The purpose of this paper is to present a gender-focused reading of the novel Moi, Tituba sorcière... Noire de Salem (1986), from Antillean writer Maryse Condé. With this aim, we will resort to the theoretical background from the gender studies. First we will analyze the ideological implications put in play by the dichotomy «male / female» on the narrative level. Secondly, we will take into account the progressive displaying of a certain insular aesthetics / poetics in the story. We will try to propose some key strategies to answer the main question: why the island?

Resumen
Comic raises a whole series of challenges to the translator due to the different codes that articulate it. The translator will have to identify and respect the meaning of the semantic, pragmatic, iconic, phonic and typographic dimensions of the source text. To this end, they will have to use bicultural knowledge, cognitive complements and show creativity to convey in the target text reader the same humorous impact as it did in the source text reader. This paper is based in a case-study approach so that the theoretical concepts are exemplified from a creative translation worshop. The aim is to show the importance of a bicultural formation for the translator which will facilitate the creative translation of this highly complex medium.

Resumen
This article focuses on Murmures à Beyoğlu (2009), the first novel by French writer David Boratav (Paris, 1971), and on the analysis of some of its basic characteristics as a postmodern novel. Thus, we will prioritize the interpretation of the protagonist and the city as the umpteenth postmodern re-reading of the Odyssey, in the journey of initiation of a Homeric character à la recherche of his lost Ithaca, Istanbul. The portrayal of the central character is completed with a sketch of the intertextual richness of the novel, and the vision of the Turkish capital is framed within the postmodern representation of the city, under a complex perspective that steers clear of the typical nineteenth-century exoticism.

Resumen
This paper deals with the influence and diffusion of the «Gothic Fiction» or «Gothic Novel» in France through French translations which appeared almost at the same time as their original English texts; for instance, Horace Walpole’s The Castle of Otranto (1764) was translated only three years after its publication. A complete repertoire of translations appearing until the 1830s leads up to two writers who were highly influenced by the Gothic style, namely Ducray-Duminil and Arlincourt, whose short stories combined Gothic elements and «roman noir».

Resumen
As shown by the analysis of the narrative perspective, the texts of French-language African women writers reveal a gradual move towards ever more complex expressive forms. Focusing almost exclusively on the narrator, early-written stories tend to present events as a whole already filtered by conscience, thus conveying the memory of an experience. However, the monological interpretation of the past is later replaced by a polymodal representation where memory grows richer through an overall processing of past experiences, which we dub the experience of memory.

Resumen
The aim of this article is to determine the different uses the adverb spécialement can receive in discourse. Therefore we work within an argumentative framework, according to which the application of some linguistic criteria prove that this item presents two main features: one paradigmatic, another eventive. Both features derive into two different discourse strategies depending on the fact that spécialement focuses upon the whole predication as an event or only a part of it. When the adverb operates as an eventive focusing, it involves some pragmatics effects that concern directly the expression of the speaker attitude.

Resumen
The aim of this paper is to examine the role of humour in Théâtre sans animaux. Our approach is to define two forms of humour which play on the effects of incoherence: the unusual and the absurd. We then examine these two forms of humour and the effects which they produce in Jean-Michel Ribes’s text. We show the specificity of the humor of Ribes which articulates the unusual with the absurd.

Resumen
The aim of this article is to discuss the thoughts that Romain Rolland made about India, a subject which has curiously attracted little critical attention. A pioneer intercultural studies, Romain Rolland laid the ground for a future development of the cultural relationship between Europe and India. Three fundamental texts conform the approach to India made by this writer. Three biographies about Gandhi, Ramakrishna and Vivekananda. These biographical works are constructed according to a non-duality logic which coincides with that of the Advaita Vedanta in stylistic and conceptual terms.

Resumen
In Charles Baudelaire’s «Tableaux parisiens» and Le Spleen de Paris, an eye-camera that takes pictures of reality operates in a latent way. This photographic metaphor allows the poet to capture the Parisian landscape to fix it in the positive of poetry. In this article we analyze Baudelairian poetics by an interdisciplinary perspective that combines the language of literature and photography. We will use as theoretical framework Philippe Hamon’s semiological approach and Walter Benjamin Marxist theory.

In the analysis of the myth of Salome prepared by Jean Lorrain, we will see the decadent writer lashing out against the figurative image of the end-century woman. Facing his contemporary writers, Jean Lorrain, not only does he separate from them to offer a unique show in the figurative field, but also unleashes an imaginary projection that allows him to reach a very personal aesthetics, which culminates with the appearance of the Androgyne.
