Resumen
This article discusses the processes of mediatic interaction of contemporary migrations of latin americans in the context of the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil. It is based on the results of an empirical research (between 2004-2007). Research techniques included 'life history' and 'focal groups', while the theoretical background included several previous studies of reception in Latin America. Discussion focus on how those interactions constitute places of (re)invention of modalities of appropriation and interactive communicative use for migrants, who (re)configure their migratory experiences on a local scope and conform related specific identity processes to the notion of "Latino-Americanidad".

Resumen
The article synthesizes several stages of research the author has carried out for several years now, concerning the relationship between semiotics and communication studies. For that reason, the article has been organized into three sections. In the first section the author presents the epistemological challenges that communication studies have faced when the semiotic point of view is incorporated into that field, and the way in which the concept of communication has been used and conceptualized within semiotics. In the second section the author explores the importance of biosemiotics for communication studies, and finally, the third section outlines a model of preliminary integration between semiotics and communication theory.

Resumen
The article expounds on some theoretical and methodological reflections about how the theory of social representations may be used in the field of communication studies. It discusses some possible applications of theoretical concepts and basic assumptions of the model to understand the communication processes of production of meaning as much in their daily demonstrations as in the mass media. It especially highlights some advantages of the theory to guide research on media messages, identifying inputs to recognize the holistic and hierarchical organization of the meanings that circulate in this kind of cultural product.

Resumen
This paper reports the findings of a review of 51 Latin American empirical studies on television audiences published between 1992 and 2007 in the most important journals in the region. The analysis compares the studies according to their theoretical approach, research techniques and type of television content. Findings show that cultural studies is the most popular theoretical approach, that television and daily life, and the mediations are the topics covered the most, and that many studies still lack a solid methodological base. The paper presents a diagnosis of the strengths and weaknesses of current Latin American empirical research on television audiences and points out the need for more methodological rigor and emphasis on ideological readings.

Resumen
The current project analyzes the images, representations and concepts of motherhood and childhood that circulated in El Informador, this being understood as a discursive body, aware itself of the emergence of social constructions. The motivation for research is the hypothesis that the constructions of motherhood and childhood played a central role within the revolutionary process of reconstruction of the new mexican state. Likewise, the interest centers upon a reconstruction of local experience in relation to a national debate concerning the discursive order of genre that established certain guidelines of behavior for women and their children, drawing from the daily newspaper as provider of source material open to interpretation.

Resumen
This article aims to analyse the results of an investigation into the use of female gender stereotypes present in the media. We are interested in knowing what the gender stereotypes that women are valued as discriminatory and which regarded as positive practices regarding the image of women in society. We intend to generate patterns of knowledge in three areas: in the perception and consideration of citizenship in front of the media contents, understand the social participation about media content and the valuation strategy, effectiveness and other actions that can help improve the representation of women in the media.

Resumen
In the context of an ongoing research project concerning the scientific constitution of the field of communication studies, this article reviews some national and international approaches on the bibliography presented as foundational, from a diversity of standing points, for this kind of studies. These approaches include both descriptive ("bibliometries") and rather normative ("biblionomies ") perspectives, and serve as a framework for the exploration of empirical data extracted from master s degree theses presented at five mexican universities between 1996 and 2005.

This paper explores the development of internet research (mostly anglophone) between 1990 and 2007. To do so, some major theoretical topics of internet studies are analyzed, and several key debates are described in order to show the internet's evolution as an object of study. It is suggested that internet studies have become a field of knowledge under construction with increasing academic legitimacy.
