Resumen
The study observed the effect of fundamental frequency of voices and perception of the face on the audience's impressions of radio and television speakers. It pretended to determine if there was a relationship between the visual information obtained from face and a specific attribute of oral interpretation: tone. 320 subjects were assigned to one of two conditions: audio (only hearing voices) or audiovisual (also seeing faces). Later, answered a questionnaire with semantic differential scales. Results show tone does influence impressions, that perception of face does make a difference to judgments depending of the tone of the voices (low, medium or high) and that credibility directs evaluations of media speakers.

Resumen
This paper addresses questions regarding how future citizenship has been built. In order to do that, this paper analyzes the role of television and interpersonal communication networks to construct political sophistication, democracy values and disposition to participation. A path analysis and a multiple analysis of variance were performed to address those questions. Results point out that the centrality of interpersonal communication networks become important to understand how citizenship has been built. Evidence permits to be optimist regarding the future of Mexican citizenship, but a final comment points out that those mexicansface sociopolitical constraints limiting that optimism.

The rumors and urban legends that we can find in the internet, e–mail and the media are about a great variety of topics. In this paper we focus in some rumors and urban legends which topics are based on urban violence such as the urban maniac, the very violent gangs, the snuff movies, the terrorist and the wolf wear lambskins. The analysis of rumors and legends help us to understand collective imaginaries and mutual representations in both violence and the risks of modern life.

Discusiones teóricas y metodológicas sobre el estudio del discurso desde el campo de la comunicación
Pérez Daniel, Myriam Rebeca

Resumen
From the theoretical–methodologic clarification of the discourse phenomenon proposed by Roland Barthes, it is possible to locate its study in the field of the communication and not in the dominions of the linguistic. The discourse, according to Barthes, does not refer to a text that a sense constructs, but the sense socially created and shared that it crosses to texts. Therefore, their analysis does not have to fall to the understanding of the text, but to the understanding of the subjects that communicate through him.

Resumen
The article deals with the analysis of the relations between knowledge and power of representation, which is defined here as the one power that, is able to build and configure visibility and sense of reality, stabilizing some senses on the social world and its operation. I want to locate the discussion in the context of neoliberalism / neo–conservatism, under the assumption that these forms sharpen the dispute over the "ownership" of interpretive space. Through two major analyzers (authoritarian representations and therapeutic representations), we discuss some changes in the status of knowledge and forms of legitimacy and the central role of various actors in this play: media communication, schools, and cultural industries, among others.

Resumen
This essay proposes to demonstrate, on the basis of a set of fundamental concepts that are now accepted in the academic milieu, research and concrete cases, that research in semiotics has advanced to such a degree that it is in conditions to become –under the modality of the semiotics of culture– a discipline in its own right, that takes as its object of study all those communication processes that operate in society and which, together constitute culture.
