As an advance of a broader research project, this article displays the results of a preliminary descriptive approach to the master’s degrees theses presented at iteso and the University of Guadalajara, oriented by the analysis of the bibliographies contained in the theses. Some findings are emphasized: there are similarities between the “reference profiles” constructed for the two programs, and a shared relatively high proportion of references to Mexican research products, especially those whose authors are members of the faculties of the same programs.

El objeto del presente estudio es el esclarecimiento de las divisiones temáticas y las funciones comunicativas inherentes a los manuales de instrucciones de electrodomésticos, un tipo de literatura que constituye un género propio. Los movimientos que salen a la luz son siete: advertencias, características técnicas, instalación, funcionamiento, limpieza y mantenimiento, solución de problemas y, finalmente, garantía y servicio técnico. Estos se acoplan con diversas funciones semánticas que oscilan desde el consejo, la precaución y la información (inicio), atraviesan la función explicativa en los movimientos centrales del manual de instrucciones, y acaban en el mensaje informativo de la parte final, marcando, así, la progresión lógica del texto.

The study of the arrival and the development of television in family and social life allows the comprehension of the process through which a traditional community turns into audiences and the implications it means in the relations between public and private space. This historical analysis of the cultural practices of television reception or consumption makes possible the account of how television is bond to social change, ways of producing meaning, and the resulting manners of the relation between communication, culture and history.

Can television participate in the generation of an environmental consciousness in Mexican viewers? What kind of environmental content appears in the national networks in Mexico? These questions are tackled in this paper interested in understanding the contribution of television, as a socialization force, in the awareness of the environment in national audiences. The article shows the findings of a content analysis of programs and contents related to the environment in national television during 2003, 2004 and 2005. According to this study Mexican commercial television does include environmental topics, but restricted to stories about nature.

The identity concept is analyzed and how a feminine identity in a wireless programs of frivolous cut is constructed. Far from constituting an insignificant diversion, frivolous wireless programs contain a series of sociosemiotics strategies that spread like constituent of the feminine group. The sociosemiotics strategies we recognized are: the “performance”, the “diversion” and the “ignorance”. The speakers use the direct speech for “acting”, the jokes “to be amused” and discursive constructions of somebody the sufficiently “ignorant” to seem the sufficiently feminine.

I present the communication profile of the huichols who live in the city. I concentrate in the use of the mobile phones. The use of mobile phones is moderate because of the economic and cultural reasons. The mobile phones serve them for being located, for the communication with its families who live in the communities in the mountains, at the same time, the occidental culture own of the life in the city, it demands. The huichols are gratified by the basic functions of its mobile phones. They don´t investigate the possibilities of this media, they aren´t interested in the technological innovations. They aren´t ready to communicate constantly, they have other preferences. They themselves say that don´t want exaggerate the use of this media.

The work proposes three phases to analyze the evolution of the television in Spain. An evolution that appears especially related to the transformations in the ways to be configured the country as consumer society. From here that have itself it orientated to this focus, as soon that it integrates the economic processes and of transformation of the social structure, as structural analysis. After presenting the two first phases, the article stops in the third or present phase, to which has been characterized like phase of intensification and fragmentation of the television consumption.
