The article analyzes the trajectories of religious women in Argentina’s Catholic communities in the 21st century. It explores their stories before opting for spiritual life and senses their religious vocation, community dynamics, and the difficulties they face. The data we produced came from in-depth interviews with 15 holy women and fieldwork in Catholic communities between 2013 and 2019. The women’s option for religious life comes from a “call from God” based on their previous Catholic socialization and the networks established with religious specialists during their childhood and youth, allowing them to consider spiritual life as a possible project and lifestyle. Religious enter the community after a discernment that confirms their vocation, and they begin pastoral and professional careers according to the charism of their chosen community. These communities see religious life as a “vocation” where all activities are consecrated to God through an “active asceticism” that positions religion as a divine instrument in the world. The conceptions of the communities as “family” make visible the fraternal bond between the religious, woven and consolidated by the collective project that they share in the space of emotional, spiritual, and material support.

This article seeks to describe and problematize reform proposals of the Argentinean higher education system made by the Latin American Economic Research Foundation (FIEL) during Carlos Menem’s government’s State reform process (1989-1999) in Argentina. First, we characterize the Argentine neoliberal cycle and the role of think tanks in the context of public policy design during this stage. Secondly, we reconstruct the trajectories of FIEL Foundation experts. Then, we describe the research and activities carried out around higher education policies. Finally, we describe the circulation of ideas generated by this think tank for the state sphere and how these discourses questioned the actors of the national universities during the decade under investigation.

This paper proposes a chronological journey through the main representations of the body throughout history. From classical antiquity to late modernity, the body has been systematically silenced as a category of knowledge and subordinated to the presumed superiority of the soul, mind, or non-corporeal. In response to this, a diagram will be outlined through the most relevant postulates of disciplines such as philosophy, medicine, art or sociology around the body, to arrive at the considerations of poststructuralism and the so-called " corporeal turn". This field, still magnanimous, has been in charge of restoring the body a privileged place in the production of knowledge. Tracing a break with anthropocentric dualism and forging a new ontology, this field has emancipated the body from its long slumber and positioned it as an autonomous category of knowledge and as a methodology

After the social, political, and institutional crisis that shook Argentina in 2001, we witnessed a renewed social interest in history—seen as an explanatory source of the present. Bicentennial celebrations of Argentina’s independence presented the opportunity to generate a broad public debate about the meaning of independence and its actors. This article investigates the debate surrounding the construction of hegemonic historical narratives to reposition women as subjects of history from an academic production. Within the framework of the debates, publications and research carried out mainly by women around the bicentennial of independence.

This article presents a sociological analysis of Colombian debates after implementing a scientific policy model in the 1990s centered on the idea of productive innovation. The approach is carried out by linking the study of controversies, which arose in the sociology of scientific knowledge, and constitutes the second part of multi-stage research. To show the relevance of the analysis, we initially developed a historical presentation of some famous controversies about science policy. Some of the approaches used to understand such discussions include political culture and senses of relevance. We favored field theory to understand the stand taken by agents of the social world of science, showing that dissent on this policy comes from the rejection of an international model of science policy’s central topics. The latter is expressed in other countries and discovered in events such as the march for science, showing the importance of these approaches for scientific communities worldwide.

This research focuses on the “subjective level” of young activists in Mexico City, deepening their experiences and actions on the axes of “emotions” and “ethics of care” between 2011 and 2021. The COVID-19 period is used to build a joint reflection between the researcher and activists on political actions and disciplinary violence in their daily lives. It exposes the prevalence of “joy” as opposed to “pain” and “fear” and maintains their social networks as solutions to the effects generated by such violence. Through in-depth interviews and ethnography, this text exposes the dimension and sophistication of disciplinary violence against youth activism, demarcating some nuances of the female gender that generate sexual violence against activists. At the same time, it shows some of the care tactics implemented to safeguard the lives of its members and their limitations and contradictions in requiring the support of civil society and state institutions.

Based on a case study in Tierra Caliente, Mexico, this article provides an analysis of cultural activism and how does it deal with criminal violence and the covid-19 pandemic. Empirically, it provides relevant information to the literature on cultural activism in contexts of criminal violence and conceptually, by employing Bourdieu's field theory, the article shows its convenience for studying activism in times of crisis.

The objective of this text is to investigate significant periods of collective corporality in post-dictatorship Argentina. With this objective, it focuses on three fundamental moments in recent history: the 1980s years of democratic opening; the years surrounding the 2001 crisis; and the period that began in 2015, with the milestone call for the first #NiUnaMenos, from which feminist demonstrations multiplied, at the same time that placed more attention to the body as a political territory and as an instance of resistance. The work is based on a situated approach and is oriented to contribute to studies on significant phenomena in the Global South.

In the last stage of his life, Parsons focused on projects of different nature. On one side, he continued his work on systematic theory through a series of evolutionary studies about the historical development of human societies. On the other, he proposed a historic-empirical approach on specific problems of the U.S. and its role on the global political situation. Although in both cases the analysis and conceptualization responded, more or less directly, to the logic of his AGIL model, the first line of studies is intended to maintain a formal and abstract character, while the latter recover a historical-political view of sociological analysis. They both aim to establish a uniform conceptual grounding for linking analytical and historical issues without falling into a purely referential use of the notion of Society. However, critical readings of Parsons' work highlight its difficulties in meeting this totalizing goal. This article attempts to broaden the discussion on the relationship between "abstract" and "historical-political" levels of Parsonian thought, exploring his different ways to approach the problem of Society: the Nation-State studies and the definition of Societal Community
