Sexual violence as a crime against humanity is of recent date in the legal sphere, but it is also from a gender perspective in the social sciences. This article focuses on the 2011 report of a group of women who, during the illegitimate actions and state terrorism in Uruguay -between June 13, 1968, and February 28, 1985- suffered torture and sexual violence during their detention. Reporting and denouncing publicly and judicially allowed women to shift from victims to denouncers, from passive to citizens. From an analytical framework interested in the political processes of victims’ construction and recognition, the article also works on the value of denunciation, where the collective is a resource and support force for these women.

This article analyzes the media discourse on abortion in Veracruz, Mexico, from the mediation of the movement-countermovement conflict for sexual and reproductive rights. Based on the systematization of publications on abortion by six local media during 2019 (three print and three electronic), the type of access and discourse orientations of the published articles are identified. We argue that the local media in Veracruz constructed a discourse that gave greater access to counter-movement actors who opposed sexual and reproductive rights, with a tendency to publish stories that presented negative assessments, positions, and ideas about abortion. We deliver our results as an analytical contribution to the study of media mediations in conflicts over rights at the subnational level in Mexico while raising questions about the changes that may occur after the decriminalization of abortion in Veracruz in 2021.

The following article presents the results of an empiric research dedicated to reflect on the conception of intellectuality in the recent Chilean history, the relation with the political field and the capacity of the Sociology to intervene in the public sphere, through the trajectory of a study case that could be described as an exemplary. I refer to Eugenio Tironi, Chilean sociologist considered by many people as an outstanding actor in the academic field, but mostly in the public sphere. Through a content analysis of 98 texts and interviews carried out with the sociologist, it was possible to recognize and analyze the configuration of the modalities of public intervention throughout his trajectory, based on the degrees of autonomy, specificity and dominance within the sociological field, together with the relation of these variables with the socio-political evolution of the country. This sociologist, as a knowledge constructor, managed to connect a personal story with the political project of transition that raised an important sector of the opposition to the dictatorship, intervening in the political development of the country, and managing to stand out among his intellectual peers.

The use of the Internet by social movements is gaining relevance today. In this sense, the relevance of analyzing these manifestations from communication opens the way to think about the forms of interaction on Twitter. Based on this, the present work analyzes the use that the Mexican LGBT movement gives to Twitter, particularly the reticular architectures that are formed around the hashtag #Orgullo2021Mx. With the Social Networks Analysis (SNA), the interactions of different users with that tag have been obtained, and then visualize these links in the network formed through the content. Finally, among the results obtained, it is found that those who participate in the network are members of the LGBT movement and give meaning to a discourse that is linked to the meanings concatenated to the hashtag # Orgullo2021Mx.

This article explores social perceptions on trade unions and their explanatory factors in Latin America, focusing on the degree of confidence. First, I analyze through logistic regressions the influence, in Latin America as a whole, of individual attributes and characteristics of the country of residence on the lack of confidence in unions, whose incidence in this region is strikingly high. Then, the study centers in Argentina and Chile, whose contrasts are relevant for a comparative study of the determinants of how much are unions trusted. The results highlight the role that real or supposed deficiencies and irregularities in trade union action –  adverse impact on the economic situation, disinterest in precarious employment, or corruption  – might play in explaining lack of trust in trade unions.

This work is a bet on archival practice, on a living memory that makes visible the traces of a dissident counter-history. The insubmissive body will be understood as a space of re (existence), collective struggle, and memory. The poetic-political practice of the archive allows us to document the invisible presence in the recent history of people who escaped the gender binomial, a secret dwelling, the search for freedom, to exercise the right to exist despite stigma and violence. In the face of persecution and state criminalization, sexual dissidence communities elaborated compelling plots and territories to deploy these desiring identities. Both the punishment and the practices of resistance under state terrorism will mark the presence of the desiring and provocative ways of inhabiting the urban territory and activate the struggles of the LGBTTIQ+ community for the recognition of identity and memory. In this sense, this article aims to contribute to a possible genealogy of dissident pride struggles.

The article deals with a descriptive and reflective analysis of the accumulated knowledge and trends on collective actions carried out by women in the last three decades in Latin America. Academic publications were tracked based on the categories "collective actions" and "social movements" in relation to the category "women". This search was carried out with a territorial delimitation in Latin America, and a temporary one between 1991 and 2020. Among the results, it stands out that between 1991 and 2000, research on women's collective actions studied the political participation of women in the struggles for independence and freedom, elimination of dictatorships, struggles for political rights and actions for peace. Between 2001 and 2010, they continued to study their participation in the elimination of dictatorships, the struggles for political and social rights, the struggles for sexual and reproductive rights, and increased studies of actions for peace. Between 2011 and 2020, the study of the struggles for political rights, the struggles for sexual rights and actions for peace continued; and studies on struggles for land and resistance to patriarchy were identified.

Since 2016 the feminist movement has frequently broken into the public space of several Mexican cities, with mass marches and various repertoires of collective action through which they express their exhaustion and outrage at the prevalence of gender violence and the passivity of the responsible authorities. As is sometimes the case, the demonstrations led to pints of urban historical heritage, which in turn led to a criminalizing, repressive and moralizing reaction on the part of the authorities at the three levels of government. This article argues that such events show a renewed dispute between the official history, sustained and disseminated by the ruling class, and the collective memory, forged by the resistance, sisterhood and resilience of women in the face of misogynistic grievances, in which at stake is the legitimacy and permanence of the androcentric status quo.

This article analyses some aspects concerning academic development for both female and male researchers in CONICET, one of the main scientific research institutions in Argentina. The trajectory course of active researchers in 2020 is analysed from several variables such as position and speed through their career within the institution, hierarchical positions as professors at universities in the country, added indicators in publishing, and sex (as an approximate indicator of gender asymmetries). Apart from a general characterization, two segments of population are analysed: the first one who entered CONICET in 2004-2006 (1242 subjects) and the second who entered in 2016-2018 (1681 subjects), being these recent time intervals very different in the history of the Argentinian scientific and university fields. The result allows to quantify the asymmetries in the access to hierarchical positions and the publishing indicators, small at the beginning of the career but increasing throughout time. It is also to be observed that such asymmetries do not operate at the same intensity in the disciplinary areas and commissions that build the evaluative culture of CONICET, presenting thus a highly heterogeneous panorama.

The article describes and analyzes the set of public interventions by the Republican Party through its leader, José Antonio Kast, during one of Chile’s most intense socio-political crises in 2019. We examined these interventions from recording, classifying, and analyzing lexical frequencies, binary oppositions, identity relations, and privileged topics possible to observe in the messages generated between October 2019 and March 2020. Our study concludes that the Republican Party deepened the antagonistic character of its political discourse and its position within the margins of the “radical right.” At the same time, it chose to place itself at the margin of the dispute to represent the social demands that emerged during that period.
