INTRODUCTION. In post-pandemic times, volunteers have played an important role in humanitarian care OBJECTIVE. Analyze the relationship between emotional intelligence, anxiety levels and fear of coronavirus. METHOD. A quantitative approach of correlational scope, non-experimental design and cross section was carried out in a sample of volunteers from a humanitarian organization, with a sample of 120 participants. The Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS-24) test, the Hamilton Anxiety Scale and the scale of fear of sars-cov-2 (FCV-19S) were applied. RESULTS. They reflected that the higher the anxiety, the lower the levels of understanding and regulation of emotional states, and the greater the fear of the coronavirus, the greater the attention to emotions. In the dimensions of emotional intelligence, attention and emotional regulation they are at a medium level, while in understanding the low level stands out, a low level of anxiety and fear of the coronavirus is observed. There are no statistically significant differences between the age subgroups and according to gender. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS. It is concluded that the volunteers have been trained in COVID-19, so they have low levels of fear and anxiety, and it is necessary to improve emotional intelligence.

INTRODUCTION. The advance of the agricultural frontier together with urban expansion contribute to the change in Land Use and constitute a threat to montane forests classified as fragile ecosystems at the tropical level. OBJECTIVE. The present investigation characterizes a fragment of high montane forest, located in the peri-urban spaces of the city of Quito. METHOD. For this, a georeferenced plant inventory was developed that considered some structural parameters, as well as the determination of the diversity of species of the plot. RESULTS. 18 tree and shrub species were found, between endemic and typical of the Andes, being the most abundant Brachyotum ledifolium with 45 individuals and the scarcest Pentacalia sp.1, Miconia papillosa and Myrcianthes rhopaloides with 1 individual. Gynoxys campii, also abundant in the plot, was listed by the UICN as "Endangered with Extinction" due to the destruction of its habitat. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS. The forest fragment is in a good state of conservation, however, it is threatened by urban expansion, the evaluation of the management plans of the protected area to which this forest fragment belongs is recommended.

A large part of the world's population lives in urban areas, and the number of people living in cities is expected to reach 6 billion by 2050, which will place a high demand on resources, making a global energy transition necessary. This transition of urban areas will have to be comprehensive. It will involve not only a change in energy sources but also a change of habits to ensure sustainability for the development of future generations. At present, energy generation from fossil fuels continues to power cities; however, it is becoming increasingly clear that renewable energies are the path to a sustainable future, so it is necessary to promote energy autonomy in urban environments. On the other hand, the uncontrolled generation and disposal of urban waste is a problem that has been generated due to rapid urbanization and population growth; this lack of waste management planning makes cities unsustainable. Therefore, implementing the circular economy concept in urban areas is proposed to boost sustainability. It is also shown that cities and their regional environment face new social and environmental challenges that are inextricably linked to the economy. In this sense, Indoamerica Technological University organized the 2nd Congress on Sustainability, Energy, and City to promote the comprehensive sustainability of intermediate cities in the short, medium, and long term. Finally, we invite you to read the articles in this edition of the magazine Cienciamérica where some reflections and debates on the sustainable management of resources in intermediate cities are made.

Informal construction generates uncertainty in the structural behavior of projects, which in turn implies vulnerability to sources of danger such as earthquakes. One of the reasons for the proliferation of informality in the construction industry is the lack of regulation and control. The institutions in charge of design review, approval, and supervision processes for construction projects have limited financial and human resources to carry out their functions. Thus, it is necessary to optimize processes to improve regulation work. One of the critical stages for regulatory compliance control is the approval of structural designs. This work aims to develop an open-source platform that allows creating, supervising, approving, and storing of data and information on structural designs. The virtual platform was configured using frontend technologies: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The inputs required for the creation of the structural reports intend that the reports generated are concise to facilitate the work of reviewing and storing data. The platform was evaluated and rated positively by a group of professionals in the area of structural engineering.

One of the main challenges of the future renewable energy system will be to provide an adequate solution to the territorial impact that the supply of energy to large cities will entail. INTRODUCTION. The main sources of renewable energy come from natural flows (solar radiation, rain, wind) that must be captured based on large extensions of territory, which does not happen in the system based on fossil fuels. OBJECTIVE. The present work establishes a methodology to estimate these surfaces and their distribution in the territory, at the same time that it shows some of the parameters for their possible future solution. METHOD. Starting from the estimation of the useful energy to satisfy the needs of a given large city, the collection surfaces (in photovoltaic equivalent) and their impact on the territory are evaluated. RESULTS. This methodology is exemplified based on its application to the cities of Quito, Barcelona, Paris, Moscow, New York and Shanghai. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS. The results of this work show that the supply of energy for large cities is going to be one of the most critical points in the energy transition to renewable sources.

Economics is a science that admits addressing approaches and perspectives to study, learn, analyze and put it into practice. Gender is a transversal approach that implies, in the first place, the decision to include in its studies and approaches that 50% discriminated against, controlled and even rejected by traditional analysis categories... How can one speak of macroeconomics, of indicators of management or policies and actions that build fairer, freer and more equitable societies without addressing and programmatically including the problems related to gender inequalities and their possible solutions? In this context, women face discrimination and are disproportionately vulnerable. Unequal gender roles have implications for the most basic aspects of self-determination, dignity, and financial freedom.

INTRODUCTION. The energy inadequacy of the existing building stock is a problem that the European Union and its member countries have been addressing for years. The recent pandemic crisis, coupled with the publication of the European Green Pact, has triggered a series of measures and support aimed at providing the necessary tools for radical energy rehabilitation in the housing sector. OBJECTIVE. This article aims to clarify the state of the art of energy policies undertaken by the EU in the framework of the Recovery Plan for Europe. METHOD. A comparative study is carried out on the measures taken for energy rehabilitation in Italy and Spain. RESULTS. A series of analytical categories are identified that characterise the tools adopted and a relationship with urban level policies is established. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS. A number of procedural factors hinder the applicability of the measures, however, the consolidation of integrated perspectives that consider thermal retrofitting as a part of wider urban regeneration plans is highlighted. Future research can carry out comparative studies between other EU and non-EU countries.

The reduction or omission of the analysis of local cultural identity in the framework of the municipal strategic diagnosis limits the identification, integration and mobilization of this cultural resource, leads to the underutilization of its endogenous capacities and its integral contribution to the management of local development. The study started from a previous theoretical foundation with the objective of revealing local cultural identity indicators that, from the descriptive logic of the municipal development strategy, contributes to strengthen the diagnosis of this intangible resource of development. The techniques of document analysis and surveys were used to recognize and contrast the problems of the study and the scientific methods of analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction. The research established the relations and characteristics of components of relative independence with a cognitive, practical, psychosocial and patrimonial cultural repertoire and with endogenous potentialities for development, which play a referential role of local cultural identity. It was determined in conclusions that the set of cultural identity referents, contained in the Knowledge of Local Productive Systems, Local Productive Culture, Local Collective Action and Local Cultural Heritage, provide a wide source of local cultural identity indicators that will contribute to strengthen the strategic diagnosis of this cultural resource for the management of local development.
