The Honduran food system has suffered strong impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic and hurricanes Eta and Iota. Once again, Honduras is facing a problem that threatens its food security. The war between Russia and Ukraine puts the supply chain for an adequate supply of food at risk. More than 50% of imported agricultural fertilizers in Honduras come from Russia and the increase in the price of these inputs will raise the cost of production in Honduras. We propose a call to action with strategies in the country's food sector.

The Government of Honduras proposed a 100% subsidy to all users with consumption of less than 150 kWh/month. The subsidy will have an impact of approximately 300 million Lempiras per month considering calculations prepared by the author, with data from the sector's institutions and that include the number of users stratified by consumption sector, average consumption, and applied rate. The levels of poverty make the subsidy legitimate, but it should be applied based on the consent of consumers informed about the effects of said process.

Many women have reported changes in their menstrual cycles since receiving a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, such as variations in its duration, absent or painful menstruations, heavy or scanty bleeding, and bleeding between menstruations. Until now, menstrual cycle disturbances have not been officially considered a side effect of the anticovid vaccine. There is need to broaden and deepen studies on this topic.

Medical postgraduate training faces challenges in Honduras. There are few reports in the literature on non-academic aspects that affect medical education in the country. This may be due to the little knowledge that exists about research in medical education, evaluation processes and their importance in the development of the Honduran medical academy. We propose a list of modifiable factors that can affect medical education, as well as recommendations that can favor the development of postgraduate medical education in Honduras.

The arts contribute to people´s well-being. Music has been linked to ancestral customs as a mechanism for emotional release. More recently, there are reports of studies on how music has improved the psychological state of people who have experienced traumatic situations such as natural disasters, violence, and attacks. In our Honduran context, it is necessary that the State considers the teaching of music within the educational system and promotes the transmission of moral and ethical values in its youth.

On April 19, a new literary production co-produced by Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana (UNITEC) and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras (UNAH) was presented. "Microrelatos en el Bicentenario" is not only an important contribution to the national literary scene, but also fulfills the ideal of the Honduran university. The work is presented within the commemorative activities of the International Book Day and the Day of the Spanish Language, as well as part of the celebrations of the Bicentennial of Central American Independence.

Poverty, inequality, and social exclusion have increased in Latin America and the Caribbean. These phenomena are part of the human construction and not only fall on the people who experience them. The condition of poverty is the result of human rights violations. States must develop mechanisms designed to provide support for all people who are victims of poverty, inequality, and social exclusion, so that they can enjoy their inalienable rights.

Introduction. Out of 10 patients with diabetes mellitus, 4 could have significant hand injuries that require timely medical evaluation. Here we report a rare condition called tropical diabetic hand syndrome (TDHS), its classification and treatment of a case in the Mosquitia region of Honduras. TDHS is defined as any adult diagnosed with diabetes mellitus presenting with cellulitis, abscess and/or gangrene in any region of the hand and upper limb. Case presentation. A 22-year-old woman with diabetes mellitus type 1 attended Hospital de Puerto Lempira on two occasions in a period of 4 months. She showed up with inflammatory changes in her right hand, which she attributed to an unnoticed injury while doing her daily activities. Multiple surgical interventions and broad-spectrum antibiotic treatment were necessary to control the injury. Discussion. The term TDHS is rarely used to designate inflammatory changes in the hands of diabetic patients living in tropical countries. Compared to the diabetic foot, TDHS occurs in a 20:1 ratio, and it’s not uncommon to see a rapid spread of infection through the hand and forearm compartments, with Meleney's gangrene its complication. Conclusion. TDHS must be treated aggressively from the beginning given its rapid evolution to complications. A complementary therapy must be integrated.

We are close to the end of the year that commemorates the bicentennial of independence from Spain. The beginning of republican life was a tumultuous time, but necessary in the framework of the Central American historical context. It may seem that independence from the Spanish Empire was the conclusion of a process of enlightenment and emancipation, although it marked the beginning of a process, and for this reason it deserves recognition as a milestone. However, we must bear in mind that the independence of the European political domain did not imply the settlement of its cultural and academic influence.
