The objective of the research was to analyze the relationship between the learning strategies applied by the students of the General Training level of the Physician and Surgeon career of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC) and the performance academic. It is part of a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental transectional design. The scope is correlational. The learning strategies were measured with the Learning Strategies Assessment Questionnaire for University Students (CEVEAPEU) and the academic performance was determined with the average of the immediately previous year that the student passed. The sample was non-probabilistic and was made up of 341 second and third year students of the degree. The results of the correlation between learning strategies and academic performance were low, with a value of rho(339) = .158, p = .004. Of the 25 learning strategies explored by CEVEAPEU, the following showed a correlation with academic performance: external attributions; self-efficacy and expectation; physical and emotional state; planning; self appraisal; control and self-regulation and selection of information. Learning strategies showed a relationship with academic performance in which various factors intervene.

In this research, the association of anxiety and depression with student’s subjective well-being from Guatemala City was determined. The approach was quantitative and the desing was non-experimental, cross-sectional, and predictive. For the analysis, a binomial logistic regression was performed with a variance model. The measurement included the index of Subjective Well-being index of the World Health Organization (WHO-5), the PHQ-2 scale (Patient Health Question Naire) and GAD-2 (Generalized Aniety Disorder). The participation of 249 students from four public schools was obtained. The mean age was 17.50 (SD = 1.29); 160 (67.26 %) were women and 89 (35.75%) men. The odds’ ratio (OR) was obtained for a low indicator of major depressive disorder 4,157 (95 % CI 2.13 - 8.08) and a low indicator of generalized anxiety disorder 1,971 (95% CI 1.03 - 3.77) increases subjective well-being; with an explained variance of 22.30 % (Nagelkerke R²) in the model it significant (p <.001). These results show that indicators of anxiety and depression can negatively affect Subjective Well-being. Furthermore, subjective well-being can be considered as a moderating variable for future mental health interventions.

People with visual disabilities are a group of the population that has been highly violated in guaranteeing their human rights, including accessibility to information. In the digital age, the inequality gap increases for those people who find difficult to access information and communication technologies, even in educational contexts. This article presents the results of the research project “Digital Inclusion of People with Visual Disabilities in Higher Education”, whose main objective was to determine the advances in digital inclusion of students with visual disabilities in their higher education training. For this, a methodology with a mixed research approach was used, where the sample was made up of 26 students with visual disabilities from the University of San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC), from the 2020 cycle, from academic units located in the Central Campus and University Center Metropolitan. Also participated, 103 teachers and 32 workers from libraries or documentation centers. The results show that libraries or documentation centers have a preponderant role, from having bibliographic materials in alternative or accessible formats, as well as the importance that the administrations or academic leaders themselves, must join forces with human, financial and of another nature to implement accessible technological and digital inclusion tools for higher education training for people with visual disabilities at USAC.

In Guatemala, the persistence of stray dog populations translates into the incidence of fatal cases of human rabies. Quantitative efforts to address this problem have generated knowledge about the risk of zoonotic diseases, the danger of bites, and data for population censuses, suggesting that the roaming behavior of dogs is complex and is closely related to the socio-economic context of the owner. For this reason, the objective of this research was to describe the perception regarding the stray dog in Guatemala. For the present qualitative study, data collection was based on the phenomenological method. To collect the data, unstructured, open and flexible interviews were carried out according to the initial responses of the people. The data were analyzed using Giorgi steps, intuiting, analyzing and describing the emerging categories in brackets. The four emerging themes of perception identified in this study were: (1) the affective dimension, (2) the feeling of similarity, ubiquity and abundance, (3) the stray dog in Guatemalan culture, and (4) the intervention of the populations. This information is relevant for efforts to control stray dog populations, for possible updates to the Animal Protection and Welfare Law, and the design of the national program for the elimination of canine rabies in Guatemala, considering the relevance of human beings and their culture in the maintenance of these animals.
