During the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) was intensified. This study aimed to investigate the incorporation of ICT in the teaching-learning process by teachers, undergraduate and graduate Medicine students from Brazilian public and private institutions, before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Cross-sectional survey was used to perform this research, with data collection carried out from May to September 2020. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. There were 242 participants: 153 undergraduate students, 19 graduate students, and 70 faculty members. The participants considered that the support provided by their educational institutions in 2020 for the use of ICT was ‘good’ (44.2%, 107/242) or ‘excellent’ (22.3%, 54/242). The technologies most often used in 2020 were virtual learning environments (79.8%, 193/242) and videoconferences (77.7%, 188/242). The majority of respondents prefer the ‘classroom-based’ modality (50.4%, 122/242), followed by those who prefer the occasional use of ICT (22.3%, 54/242). The participants registered 171 perceptions related to the use of ICT as a pedagogical resource and its importance during the pandemic. The respondents recognized the complementary use of ICT in their academic activities and considered that the institutional support was adequate. No financial difficulties were reported, but participants mentioned lack of training and limited use of ICT in practical activities. To overcome such gaps, the use of ICT should take into account preferences and specificities of medical education, for which institutions have to prepare themselves pedagogically.

Editorial inbreeding is the publication of research papers by the editor or members of the editorial committee in the journal. An excessive increase in publications by the editorial committee can suggest flaws in the editorial process. The objective of this study was to assess editorial inbreeding in Latin American public health journals and its associated factors. A manual review was carried out of all the original articles published by 16 Latin American public health journals between 2016 and 2019. The analysis variable was the presence of editorial inbreeding. Analytical statistics were carried out between the presence of inbreeding and the indexing. The journals studied published 5517 original manuscripts and short originals, of which 565 (10.2%) had at least one editor as author. There was a higher frequency of inbred manuscripts and greater inbreeding in 2019 among journals belonging to MEDLINE compared to those belonging to SciELO. The number of days from receipt to acceptance is less among inbred authors. The publication of editors in their own journals is frequent in Latin American public health journals and tends to be more frequent in journals indexed in MEDLINE.

The aim of the present study is to investigate the impact of health literacy of Iranian users on the accuracy of information on COVID-19 in virtual social networks. This is applied descriptive survey. The population includes all Iranian users of virtual networks (Telegram, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram and etc.). In this study, 121 questionnaires were confirmed and studied. For descriptive statistics, SPSS (ver. 32) and for testing hypothesis, Lisrel have been used. The research findings show that according to Iranian users, Internet is the main source for obtaining information on COVID-19. Moreover, the most popular virtual network is WhatsApp. The aim of using virtual social networks is to access to news and information.  The results of structural equations show that there is positive meaningful relation between the rate of health literacy and the accuracy of information on COVID-19 (p > 0.000, β = 0.561). In addition, the health literacy can explain 40 percent variance of the accuracy of information on COVID-19 in virtual social networks. Moreover, the results show that there is meaningful difference between the educational level of Iranian users and the health literacy and accuracy of information on COVID-19 in virtual social networks. Concerning the results of this study and meaningful relation between the health literacy level and attention to accuracy of the information on COVID-19 in Iranian users, the authorities of health system are recommended to consider special planning and policies to increase the health literacy level of users in social networks. In this way, users will be able to verify the accuracy of information on COVID-19 by increasing their health literacy level and therefore, there would be less losses due to unawareness of health literacy and its adverse effect.

The purpose of this text is to present features of open researchers to build ecosystems in which production, communication and use of the results of research processes are guided by transparency and scientific integrity criteria, which is made possible by the open science movement, bringing along the need to think about ways to build scientific knowledge with a greater impact on social development. A systematic literature review and document analysis were conducted which generated elements and notions from which features are projected that constitute the foundations of open science, systematization and scientific communication. The main conclusions suggest that open science is an action featuring not only a new model to produce scientific knowledge in a more fluent dialogue with society, which requires fundamental features to be exhibited by researchers, among them collaboration. It also makes emphasis on transparency and scientific integrity, criteria which have always been important in research processes, but acquire greater relevance in these open practices, making sure that knowledge assumes greater commitment to society and its organized strata.
