Valentín Carderera y Solano has been one of the most engaging personality in Spain during the xix century. Unfortunately though, he didn’t receive that critical success he actually deserved. In the light of unpublished documents recently found in the archives of his heirs, our aim is to fill up as much as possible the lack of information of his sojourn in Italy (1822–1831), which was a fundamental period for his growth as artist, art historian and collector. In addition to our attempt to retrace the mentioned 9 year period, we are also publishing a list of portraits that Carderera states to have been executed in Rome, London, Paris and Madrid. This document from now on will be of a key importance to study his legacy and especially to classify his portraits.

The aim of the article is to divulge the ancient sculpture collection owned by Juan de Ribera, Archbishop of Valencia, influenced by his humanist training at the House of Pilate in Seville and his relationship with his father Per Afan de Ribera, Duke of Alcalá and Viceroy of Naples. Unpublished documentation regarding sculptures purchased in Naples is attached  and it is contrasted with the inventoried pieces at their palaces after his death in 1611, where there were up to two series of busts of emperors. In addition, aesthetic evolution of Juan de Ribera, from humanistic principles to the influence of Trent and texts of Cardinal Palleoti on the vision of sacred images, can be observed.

The aim of this research is to analyse how castles help to structure a manorial state as space of power, based in the particular example of the manorial state of the Feria during the 15th century. For this, we will analyse how the function assigned to a fortification within the territorial structure imposed at manor determines its architectural configuration. Accordingly, we will see into how the organization of the space between a centre and a periphery generate two types of castles. Furthermore, the promotion of manor to county, will help to define the identity of the lineage, doing of the castle of Feria a symbolic centre.
