Based on the assertion that knowing the effects of socioeconomic determinants and support policies on access and choice of higher education programs is fundamental to achieve sustainable development and correct social inequalities, the authors analyze these determinants and their effects in Colombia with data from SPADIES (System for the Prevention of Dropout in Higher Education, in Spanish Sistema para la prevención de la Deserción de la Educación Superior), ICFES (Colombian Institute for the Promotion of Higher Education, in Spanish Instituto Colombiano para el Fomento de la Educación Superior) and ICETEX (Colombian Institute for Educational Credit and Technical Studies Abroad, in Spanish Instituto Colombiano de Crédito Educativo y Estudios Técnicos en el Exterior), using an ordered probit model with endogenous regressors. They observe an exclusion effect in access to university studies, since family income, the mother's educational level and access to educational credit are determinants; in contrast, the effects are almost insignificant in technical studies and very marginal in technological studies.

This article examines the effects of the internalization of the ideas of new public management among Chilean university managers, analyzing both their interpretation of this process and the main tensions they perceive in the implementation of the new internal monitoring and accountability systems. The analysis shows that managers actually adhere in their actions to the principles of the new public management, while also expressing some criticism about the use of new indicators, regardless of institution they belong to. The article concludes with a summary and identifies possible areas of study on the subject.

This article describes and analyzes comparatively how universities use technological production. It starts from an institutional perspective and claims that the innovation model is redrawing the paradigm of "modernization" dominant for 20 years in higher education with "solutions" in search of problems. The study design is qualitative and combines primary and secondary sources. They authors conclude that the policy regimes experienced in universities are a response to hegemonic paradigms that have been imposed as "recipes" at the global level and that the institutions reproduce practices and discourses, paying less attention to the construction of alternative models and/or the effective use of new technologies.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the educational paths of students who are also mothers and fathers. We worked with the ethnographic method, for which the authors carried out frequent visits during a year and a half to two Mexican universities: the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), Cuajimalapa Unit, and the Universidad Iberoamericana (UIA). Twenty-four interviews were conducted with students who are also parents at both institutions, and it was found that both mothers and fathers who are enrolled at the university have disadvantages in terms of educational continuity and difficulty in combining academic and family responsibilities. It was confirmed that women invest more time in caregiving, while men use to combine paid work with educational activities. Finally, there are inequalities in educational outcomes according to social origin; thus, mothers and fathers who come from low socioeconomic strata have cumulative disadvantages that make it difficult for them to fulfill their credits and to graduate from higher education.

This article offers a reflection about the discourses of race and racism in the field of social sciences and education. For this purpose, the authors interviewed members of the academic community (teachers and students) of a public university in the city of Lima, Peru. To approach what are the predominant discourses on the study of racism in the university, they used a theoretical-methodological framework based on the theory of race and racism and Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis model. The results show that the discussion on racism is introductory and has been a demand of students, especially Afro-Peruvians who, through workshops, seek to break the traditional silencing dynamics of the matter. In general, the academic debate has prioritized the cultural diversity present in Peru and interculturality.

This research analyzes the institutional strategic plans (Planes Estratégicos Institucionales, PEI) of the universities that belong to the Consortium of Universities affiliated to the Council of Rectors of Universities of Chile in order to describe and categorize, in terms of frequency, the predominant orientation of these plans concerning the internationalization process. A previously calibrated instrument called Internationalization Verification Criteria is used. The scores obtained are used to establish three categories, which are arranged in hierarchical order, to describe the internationalization orientations of the plans currently operating at the time of this research. The results lead to the conclusion that the dimensions related to the learning of a second language constitute a minor orientation in the three categories defined, with mobility as the most predominant dimension in all categories.

This article has as purpose to identify the connection between psychosocial risk factors and health in university workers. To do so, a systematic review of articles published between 2015 and 2021 in indexed databases was conducted. Among the results, the authors found that stress was negatively related to psychological demands, compensation, double presence and workplace harassment. Psychological demands were positively related to emotional fatigue, in the same way as strains and insecurity were associated to psychosomatic symptoms. The overall risk level ranged from low to very high. The article presents divergent results and underlines the need to deepen the analysis, to address the shortage of Mexican works during the COVID-19 pandemic and to develop longitudinal studies.

The interest of governments and private companies to invest in outer space has increased the importance of aerospace education. The purpose of the article is to review the existing literature for the period 2016-2021 about the professional training needs to boost the aerospace industry in order to face the future employability challenges. From the systematic review of 158 documents, the article concludes that higher education institutions where training programs related to the aerospace industry are developed need to identify new learnings in order to shorten the gaps between aerospace education and professional practice, raising pedagogical challenges.

This research has as purpose to analyze the impact of policy reforms that lead to the privatization and internationalization on the Spanish public university. The results highlight a trend towards higher tuition fees and greater institutional diversification, characterized by the creation of a research university model of excellence. The problem with this scenario is that the research universities are located in the autonomous communities (Madrid and Catalonia) that have the highest economic rates in the whole country and, at the same time, where there is a lower percentage of students who benefit from scholarships, a situation that accentuates inequalities to a greater extent.
