This article depicts a state of the field of gender in translation studies, as well as the challenges that this branch of the discipline faces in the current scenario. It aims to work as a framework for further research based on the notions of translation, gender and deconstruction as categories that challenge binarisms, as well as metaphors about translated texts and bodies engendered through sex/gender systems. Following the Outward Turn, this text emphasises the affinity of translation studies with other disciplines as well as the relevance of translation studies, especially those with a deconstructive approach, as for intersectional and non-essentialist feminist thinking. At the same time, it summarises the contributions of this monographic issue, articles showing diverse methodologies and approaches that are in line with the new direction towards which our discipline is going.

The aim of this article is to study the writings of those women who rewrite histories and stories already told by men. Women translate these stories, but these rewritings manage to be a new story, a new history. Examples can be found in very different disciplines, from the art world to literature. Buhle Ngaba, Ghada Amer, Caroline Bergvall and Nalini Malani, among others, will show that there are other stories within the story we have been told. In 1929 in the town of Llíria (Valencia), the establishment of a textile factory transformed the life trajectory of hundreds of women, as well as the urban planning, demography and economy of the town.The factory remained open until 1974, it had a mixed workforce, although the majority of the work force fell on women, who were stressed between a world that was modernizing and that included them in contractual relations, endowing them with a certain autonomy and the society that set guidelines for conduct determined by gender roles. This article seeks to demonstrate and publicize the importance that the factory of the Ríos Seguí brothers had for Valencian society in the 20th century.

En febrero de 2020, se publicó el más reciente libro de Judith Butler The Force of Non-Violence: an Ethico-Political Bind, en el cual la filósofa norteamericana retoma conceptos de sus anteriores trabajos, como la vulnerabilidad, las vidas dignas de ser lloradas y la interdependencia, y esta vez se propone repensar qué es la violencia, y más específicamente, cuestionar el uso instrumental de la violencia. Ante la justificación de la violencia por parte de movimientos sociales y/o militantes con el fin de conseguir objetivos de lucha, Butler (nos) pregunta si la violencia puede seguir siendo un mero instrumento o medio para derribar la violencia -sus estructuras, su régimen- sin convertirse en un fin en sí mismo. Este libro da cuenta de la reflexión de Butler ante los actos violentos de la policía contra poblaciones racializadas en Estados Unidos, de las experiencias violentas que sufren los refugiados que llegan a Europa a través del Mediterráneo, de las incontables muertes por feminicidios. Pero también, nace de la fuerza que esta pensadora advierte en las marchas, manifestaciones, formas de organización de los movimientos sociales como Black Lives Matter o Ni Una Menos cuando se oponen, o más bien, imponen sus cuerpos como una fuerza contra fuerza, a esas violencias del aparato estatal o a las violencias contra los cuerpos racializados o feminizados. La filósofa encuentra en esas formas de resistencia, de transformación social, el lugar para proponer un nuevo imaginario político, que no se basa en el individualismo ni en el bienestar o libertad propia, porque precisamente lo que está en juego ahí es: ¿qué es lo propio?, ¿dónde termina mi cuerpo y empieza el otro?, ¿cuál es el self que se defiende cuando se habla de self defense? Así, el The Force of Non-Violence expresa lo que Butler ha podido sentir y pensar gracias a estas formas de lucha que no hacen uso - o al menos, no siempre - de la violencia, y propone entonces, como lo dice el título del epílogo, “Repensar la vulnerabilidad, la violencia, la resistencia” para así afirmar los potenciales de una política igualitaria radical.

The fourth wave of feminism in Spain, Germany and Ireland has been marked by the sexual offence cases of La Manada, Kölner Silvesternacht and ‘The Lacy Thong’, respectively. They resulted in unprecedented judgements that have been fiercely debated in media and have brought to light two important fractures: the first one between the EU society and the judicial system, and the second between different legal cultures within the EU. These disjunctions are best observed in the interpretation of legal terms and their translation. Thus our aim is threefold: first, we examine the terminological disparities between Spanish, German and Irish criminal law and provide a list of (in)equivalences; second, we identify the way the law is applied and interpreted on the judgements. Finally, we extract key fragments of the Spanish judgments and translate them into English to verify how jurisprudence, in line with social and feminist evolution, has forced interpretative and even normative changes in some countries.
