This article reflects on the Network of Academic Gender Links at the UMSNH, through a historical-political testimony that bifurcates in four ways: 1) the process of institutionalisation: advantages, concessions and splits; 2) its capacity as a space for pedagogical encounters between women: beyond the feminostometer; 3) its convening power for scientific work: incitement to the interdisciplinary construction of feminist science; and, 4) its repercussion and participation in the construction of institutional gender equality policies at the UMSNH. It concludes that the main achievement of the REAG has been the transformation of individual mentalities through collective processes of exchange among its members, in which both teaching and research activities as well as actions in our daily lives have been coloured in violet, dignifying the experiences and knowledge that emanate from the feminine difference.

As he indicates in his prologue, the author of this book boasts the dubious privilege of being the Design professor with the most years of uninterrupted teaching practice [in Argentina], having taken his first steps at the Escuela Panamericana de Arte in the late 1970s.  The novelty of the teaching and learning of Design at university level is dealt with in the book broken down into sub-variants: Industrial -although there was practically no industry-, Graphic, Textile and even Audiovisual, such that it became a sort of film school at the University of Buenos Aires -which our author stubbornly renames the National University of Buenos Aires-). On this basis, it quickly established a populous field of interested parties. Among them, numerous contingents of students together with (relatively) improvised teachers, partly detached from the old agglutinating field of Architecture, to which Valdés vigorously objects by proposing that the question of communication and its design should not be inserted in more generic apparatuses such as Architecture or Art (institutional spaces that house them in Argentina and the region) but, in any case, in the Social Sciences, since this task would be more socio-scientific than that of those extra or para-scientific areas.

From the analysis of the current productive social problems in Argentina, the initiative arises to meet the needs in certain areas of the work developed in the north of Argentina by popular organizations that could improve their socio-productive situation with socially relevant results by connecting public entities and private in an interdisciplinary construction model. For this, the traditional cultural traits of Argentina social gropus are analyzed with respect to food in relation to an originally subsistence production that, on the one hand, collects ancestral wisdom with eco-susteinable modalities that could generate exportable balances (beyond what this groups consume) through alternative marketing methods so that such food systems are also tools for strengthening the small producer registered in a small-scale and family economy existing in the country. These local actors – and other posible new ones that arise – have been marginalized from the hegemonic comercial sytem from the beggining and need to strengthen and strategically define their production in order to have fairer conditions for the producer while offering favorable alternatives for the consumer.  These family economies are of a local nature and are based on proccesing natural resources of the place through certain industrialization strategies imites to their means and knowledge, resulting in certain products associated with their cultural traits that can be ancient in the ways of feeding their inhabitants and that are attractive to non-local consumers. An alternative trade system like the on we propose from the design stage represents the facilitating vector on which this strategic development Project Works to give the possibility of hybridizing a new paradigm with the concept of food and culture. This strategic development proyect, is part of the research-extension programs thar are developed in the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism of the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Good cities reward those who walk, looking outwards and upwards, and reflecting on the paths taken and on the sauntering asides that open an easy relationship with the city and its neighbourhoods.  The Spanish paseo and the Italian passeggiata are, of course, as much about meeting friends and family as about using the connecting streets and passageways between one part of the city and another, and such act of walking is liberating, enjoyable and important in the making of place. Belfast does not, in many neighbourhoods, have that easy, social connectivity.  The once easy cross-city network of minor streets is, in large part, gone.  Interface walls, motorways, and other barriers and separation devices are not overtly visible in the commercial city core but continue to define key emblematic neighbourhoods.  And the growth of small-scale political tourism manifested in several bus, black-taxi trails and short neighbourhood walks to visit the interface areas and their walls, have potential result, unfortunately, that such walls, as artefacts of conflict, could tend towards permanence. As one of many post-conflict cities, Belfast is still emerging from its historical and localised condition of manifested deep-seated sectarianism, where identities and allegiances are linked to a strongly held sense of ownership of territory.  Hence, the reluctance to build in void spaces that could help resolve the housing crisis and be model for housing-led regeneration and model for development-partnering for change with the public, private and community sectors. The once daily reality in the small nurture-field city-of-camouflage and the desire for a more-connected city and neighbourhood does, however, have creative possibility, where conflict, friction, and collaborative opportunity – the collision and kiss of confluence – as creative act, can influence and impact one upon the other, that, as we know, sparks fly: alight. The spirit of self-help and community resilience, the confluence of history, cultural continuity, and an urgent need to act remains an opportunity for transformative change: for the making of new ground in an emerging city-form.

In Latin America, degraded areas have become a growth factor. The scale and speed at which they occur make this phenomenon visible as relevant in the imaginary of the Latin American city. This imaginary is associated with misery and deterioration, both socially and architecturally. Thus, the peripheries of the Latin American city rise from self-constructed houses that reproduce in the urban space (and make visible) the conditions of marginality. However, this phenomenon also shows how this architecture adapts to the multiple changes of its inhabitants. From the study of cases, concepts and theories that have transcended and other current ones, this research addresses the study of these values and situations in order to move away from their condition mythologized by the heroic, to establish project strategies to achieve a flexible architecture capable of being designed to absorb these mutations.

Anna Heringer. Essential Beauty AAVV. Fundación ICO, Arquitectura Viva, Madrid, 2022 Faced with the threatening panorama that envelops the planet, the result of climate change and the enormous social gaps produced by the continuous crises we suffer, what design will have to accompany future human actions?Essential Beauty, with Anna Heringer's essays, is committed to architectures for life that, by recovering local climatic behaviour models, return the materiality of architecture to its environment and share its promotion and production with communities. An architecture capable of communicating the importance of its commitment to social issues and the Planet, ultimately involving us all.Approaching this series of installations, guided by a clear system of orientation, leads us to modify certain learned assumptions and protocols in order to move among other searches, situations and geographies that aim for a more human design culture, configured among all, that underlines its relational role and the value of care for this space of behaviours that is the environment.
