This work addresses Mapuche history in one of its most dramatic chapters in its history. The reduction of the Mapuche population that survived the war of occupation of their territories (Ngülümapu) is a point of work and research that links recent history with the history of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In this way, the methodology and theoretical framework of this proposition, is built from the historical method, the work with primary and secondary sources, and the conceptual support from the colonial and subaltern debates, which propose analytical outputs to social processes and politicians that are studied in this work. We believe that in this way, the conceptual and epistemological foundations, which affirm this proposal, allow projecting this work and this discussion beyond the temporal and spatial margins, in which this proposal is framed.

World War I expired European hegemony and empowered the United States, Japan, and in the following years the Union of Soviet Republics. In this framework of changes that were already being considered in 1919 regarding the future of the international system, the British decline and the American rise took place, which questioned the Phil-British perspective of Chilean foreign policy. The United States entered the war with more decisive weight and that implied a greater political and economic presence worldwide. The document sent by the Chilean ambassador to the United Kingdom, Agustín Edwards McClure entitled Memorandum on whether New York will be the world’s new financial center of July 9, 1919, provides tools, the analysis of which is carried out by also transcribing the original.

The following text corresponds to a fragment written by Wilhelm von Humboldt between 1793 and 1794, and now translated for the first time into Spanish. It is a text that, despite its brevity, is of special importance for educational studies for at least three reasons. First, it is the first systematic approach to theorize the notion of Bildung (training) in specifically educational terms. Secondly, because it provides a clear and synthetic entry point to understand the anthropological assumptions and the impetus with which Humboldt understood education and its administration under his leadership as minister. Third, it provides a crucial background for tracing the intellectual history of education. It is from these three key elements that we can approach an understanding of Humboldt and his concept of education and recognize the traces of his influence that can be felt to this day both in Europe and in some countries of the Americas.

This article is aimed to problematize a discussion that took place during the first decade of the20th century about the need for mutualism to acquire a more scientific character. It has been shown that democratic mutualism was not articulated only on feelings such as solidarity or fraternity, but that at the same time, the multiple dimensions that it encompassed, such as health insurance, life insurance, education and extension, pensions and resistance, can only be understood as an expression of the social solidarity economy. In this sense, bureaucratic mutualism was aimed to more specific purposes, though during the research time was not the most important in Chile. The research has been essentially carried out from original documents found in the archives of the Directorate of Labor, in the National Archive of the Administration, Santiago, Chile.

This article analyses the presence of the Chilean gubernation in the instructions given to the viceroys during the reigns of the Habsburg kings (16th and 17th centuries). To do so, we first explain the relationship the viceroys had with the Kingdom of Chile. Afterwards we offer a characterization of the instructions as documental typology, as it was used as well in lots of other territories of the monarchy. We sustain the hypothesis that the importance of Chile in these documents increases in time once the Spanish dominion is consolidated and the strategic relevance of the Chilean coasts increases because of the presence of pirates and corsairs.
