In this article the author defends the idea that to understand the Cuban migration process it is necessary to make an analysis of the Cuban migration policy.   That is why the main objective is to provide the vision that Cuban men and women, settled in Spain, have on current Cuban immigration legislation. To do this, we rely on qualitative research that reviews in depth the discourses and narratives of emigrants related to this issue, as well as a set of guidelines on migration matters.

Gender violence is a social and political problem that currently requires priority attention from public authorities. This paper shows the results obtained in the research on beliefs and sexist attitudes carried out on a sample of 141 undergraduate students enrolled in the Social Work degree at the University of Huelva. The “Inventory of Distorted Thinking about Women and Violence” (Echeburúa & Fernández-Montalvo 1997) and the “Inventory of Social Desirability” (Crowne & Marlowe 1960) were applied. The students were also asked about the training received about gender violence. The results show the persistence of sexist stereotypes among students, which makes it difficult to identify violence. As a conclusion, there is a need to include specific subjects on gender violence in the curricula. Therefore, the training of future professionals is essential to banish unwelcome attitudes when dealing with an appropriate intervention in this area.

The social and community integration of foreigners remains a key issue, especially in recent years, where social and political polarisation could significantly influence the integration process of non-natives. In this research, first, a parallel is drawn between community integration and a sense of community to show that the analysis of a sense of community can be a practical instrument to measure the level of community integration of foreigners. In a second step, we analyze certain psychosocial (cultural identification, social support, community participation, and perceived discrimination) and socio-demographic factors, with two types of samples (face-to-face and online) to determine their predictive capacity on community integration. We anticipate that the social support system, identification with the dominant culture, and social participation are the factors that most explain foreigners’ sense of community. Finally, we want to determine the internal reliability of the scales used with both samples and reflect on the possible limitations of the research.

Declining interest in religion implies ignorance of its postulates. This, along with the increase in religious diversity, carries important challenges to intercultural coexistence in the same territory. This article discusses the religious perception of young people. Specifically, it is indented on their perception of the Muslim religion in society and the prejudices that exist about it (body punishment, male chauvinism, despotism and terrorism), as well as the perceived influence from the media and religious education they have received in the construction of their ideas. The main results reflect a greater perception of prejudice towards Muslims about male chauvinism, ahead of prejudices about terrorism. Likewise, young people do not rely on information received from the media about Muslims and do not see in religious education a resource for the promotion of respect and tolerance for religious diversity.

The problem addressed in this essay is how the suffering of HIV / AIDS in childhood, within a family context, represents a scenario of vulnerability, not only due to the deterioration of their physical and emotional health, but also in terms of the stigmatization to which they may be subjected in their immediate surroundings. To do this, a theoretical and conceptual discussion is proposed around vulnerability in the family and in children with HIV / AIDS. In such a way, that it enables the referential framework for adequate attention from Social Work. Highlighting those theoretical, conceptual and care aspects that both professionals, parents, and those involved in said problem should consider when interacting with child populations experiencing this disease.

Social Work, from its beginnings as a profession, considered social justice as its fundamental ethical goal. However, as from the last two decades of the 20th century, with the advent of neoliberalism and its conversion into the hegemonic ideology of the global world, the idea of social justice will be strongly questioned. Through the so-called New Public Management (NGP), the way of managing public services undergoes a radical change in this direction. These changes will mean a reduction in the Welfare State, also affecting the profession of Social Work. If the Social Work profession wants to contribute, together with other groups and citizens, in order to build a world more in line with human dignity, it needs to recover its ethical essence and to put human rights and social justice back at the center of its activity.
