Abstract: The article aims to analyze how in the experience of motherhood/fatherhood the human body can become a stamp of certain social, political, ideological, emotional changes that characterize our times on the one hand, and, on the other hand, what generations of the Argentine post-dictatorship inherited from a past they had not personally experienced. The purpose of this work is to study through four contemporary texts by authors of the new Argentine narrative how different types and forms of physical experiences (distance, proximity, transformations of the body) related to the fact of becoming a mother or father activate a series of associations that generate existential tension and anguish. The texts analyzed are two short stories from the anthology El nuevo cuento argentino, una antología (The New Argentine Short Story, An Antology), selected and prefaced by Elsa Drucaroff, and published in 2017 by the University Publishing House of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the UBA: “Lo que ha comenzado” (What has begun) by Alejandra Laurencich (1963–) and “Los viejitos” (The old couple) by Patricia Suárez (1969–), as well as the (short) novels: Distancia de rescate (Fever Dream) by Samanta Schweblin (1978–) and La uruguaya (The Uruguayan Woman) by Pedro Mairal (1970–).

Taking as a kick the 40 years of the first cycle carried out by the emblematic Open Theater movement, in this article we intend to reconstruct the plots and articulations of the Buenos Aires theater community in the years before its irruption. Starting from the concept of "molecular resistance" (Brocato, 1986) we will seek to illuminate a series of campaigns and events that, according to the possibilities of the situation, allowed the development of discourses and practices of opposition to the last military dictatorship. In this way, we intend to deconstruct the character of "myth" (Barthes, 2003) of the cultural resistance to the dictatorship that has been condensed on the aforementioned theatrical movement. Together, we are interested in highlighting the role assumed by various sectors of the theatrical field in denouncing censorship since at least 1979.

This article has the purpose to study the topic of maternity and filial relationships in the work of three Peruvian poets of the XXth century, where the traditional and petrified concept of idealized motherhood is questioned and problematized as a metaphoric representation of the act of writing.  Two poems, César Vallejo’s Trilce XVIII (1922), Blanca Varela’s “House of ravens”, and Victoria Guerrero’s hybrid text, And death shall have no dominion (2019) will be analized in details.

This article presents a reflection on motherhood as an artistic subject and examine its presence or absence in the discourse of contemporary culture and we consider the materialization of this discourse in the works of women artists. The proposal is reading several works belonging both artistic disciplines, painting and literature, separated approximately by a century that goes from the pictorial surrealism to the current literature.    

Introduction to the Dossier: Meanings and experiences of ma/paternidad in Spanish-American literature

Un obstáculo para aproximarnos a nociones no verbales de naturaleza está determinado por la distancia que generan sus representaciones y simbolizaciones. Es posible que un acercamiento efectivo pueda resultar de considerar la naturaleza justamente como lo inimaginable y de aceptar esta incomprensión radical como una vía posible para su necesaria aproximación. Las ciencias cognitivas han venido pensando en esta distancia irreductible, así como la importancia de afirmar esta incertidumbre, que en el ámbito académico podría abordarse con una mirada transdisciplinar y transepistémica. Asimismo, es importante también considerar el uso del lenguaje poético y creador como válidos para abonar esta reflexión.

Hace medio siglo (1972) se celebraba la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Medio Humano en Estocolmo, Suecia. El ambiente ocupó un lugar central, se acordaron una serie de principios sobre la gestión y fue creado el Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente (PNUMA). Aprovechamos este aniversario para ofrecer una edición de Cuadernos del CLAEH dedicada a los desafíos ambientales que enfrenta la humanidad. Las transiciones, como procesos de cambio o transformaciones, tienen un componente profundamente político e implican en muchos casos cambios radicales de las estructuras, las prácticas y los modos de pensar. Esperamos que estos textos contribuyan a construir puentes entre saberes, entre la academia y la política, entre ciudadanos.

Como es habitual en Cuadernos del CLAEH, el coloquio propone un recorrido por una temática de interés que se entiende como central, no solo por su actualidad o relevancia coyuntural, sino también porque permite una mirada multidisciplinaria y plural sobre fenómenos nacionales, regionales e internacionales. En este caso, y atendiendo al tema del dosier «Medio ambiente, medio siglo», en la mañana del 6 de diciembre de 2022, en un encuentro vía Zoom© que se trasmitió en vivo por el canal YouTube de Universidad CLAEH, los editores asociados para este número, Néstor Mazzeo y Manfred Steffen, conversaron con Rodrigo Arocena, Isabel Gadino y Pedro Jacobi.

A few months after the end of the Spanish War, what would be one of the Women´s Colleges of the Spanish Regime was launched most relevant of the capital and the whole of the country during the Franco period, the Teresa of Jesus College. However, this center, like its counterpart, the Colegio Mayor Jiménez de Cisneros, also attached to the Central University of Madrid they did not arise from nowhere, but were erecte don the premises of the former Residence of Ladies and Students, respectively. But, in addition to reusing infrastructures that had not suffered the ravages of the conflicto, Franco placed at the head of the Teresa of Jesus a group of women, such as Matilde Marquina, Eulalia Lapestra and Lucía Calvillo, that were not alien to the previous institution, in order to make use of the previous organizational and symbolic devices. With this center, of catholic carácter and linked to the Women´s Section of the Spanish Falange, it was a question of recovering, although more in form tan in content, the old collegiate institution to connect with the long awaited imperial University. In that aparent, and contradictory, return to the past, of evident ruptures and certain glimpses of continuity, the Teresa of Jesus traced a path of her own and differentiated both from the point of view of the history of the institution and the trajectories of women who resided in it during its first years of life.
