Resumen
Hybrid prostheses in total edentulous patients have improved their quality of life, is essential to know survival and possible complications, to offer reliable treatment. Objectives: to evaluate and record the survival and complications of hybrid prostheses in total edentulous CDD-UPCH patients. Material and methods: descriptive study, observational, retrospective, cross-sectional. Medical records of 37 patients (45 prostheses) installed from 2013 to 2016 were reviewed, data were recorded in Microsoft®Excel2016 and exported to the StataV15 statistical program. A univariate percentage analysis was used for the survival rate and biomechanical complications, and chi2 or Fisher’s exact for the association with variables. Results: Survival (years) was higher: female sex, young patients, installed in upper arches, with early loading and having natural teeth as the antagonist. The most frequent biomechanical complications were: mucositis; being the same in both sexs and arches, with greater results in theolder adult and conventionally loaded prostheses that have mixed prostheses as antagonists; and screw loosening was greater in female patients, older adults with conventionally loaded prostheses and with mixed prostheses as antagonists, without significant differences according to the type of arch. Conclusions: 5-year survival was 84.91% and failure 15.09%. The most frequent biomechanical complications were mucositis and screw loosening, and no associations of survival and biomechanical complications were found with; sex, age group, type of antagonist, compromised arch and type of load.

Objective: To determine the levels of proinflammatory cytokines around miniscrews with and without loading, used during orthodontic treatment. Material and Methods: A descriptive longitudinal study was executed with a sample of ten miniscrews inserted in patients that attended a dental clinic. Saliva and peri-implant crevicular fluid samples were taken: at baseline (T0), 24 hours after insertion (T1), 1 week after insertion (T2), 24 hours after loading (T3). The samples obtained were processed by immunoassay and read with a flow cytometer. Results: Data analysis was performed using the SPSS program version 21.0. To verify normal distribution, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used, followed by ANOVA to compare and determine statistical significance. Levels of inflammatory mediators in the peri-implant crevicular fluid at T1 had the following order of average values: IL-8>IL-1β >IL-6>TNF-α>IL-10>IL-12p70. Higher values were found 24 hours post-insertion. Salivary levels found were lower but the previously mentioned order was maintained. Statistically significant intergroup differences were found for IL-1β and IL-8 in the peri-implant crevicular fluid. The Scheffe post hoc test showed that there were no statistically significant differences when making an intragroup pair comparison of each mediator level in a given evaluation time. No statistically significant differences were found in saliva inter and intra-group for all the evaluated inflammatory mediators. Conclusions: The miniscrew loading did not generate an increase of the concentrations of the cytokines greater than the effect caused by the insertion per se. The highest levels of inflammatory mediators were found 24 hours post-insertion of the miniscrew.

Resumen
Introduction: The toothbrush is an important object for the hygiene of the oral cavity and an effective mechanism to remove the oral waste. Objective: To evaluate the perception of care, storage and parasitic contamination of toothbrushes in children with special health care needs (CSHCN) and children without special health care needs (CWSHCN) in Southern of Minas Gerais State. Material and Methods: This is an observational cross-sectional non-randomized study. The population consisted in 54 children, with age between 7 and 14 years. The questionnaire was distributed to patients to evaluate the perception of care and storage of children’s toothbrushes. Investigation of toothbrushes contamination was performed by parasitological examination and real-time polymerase chain reactions. Results: Regarding the procedures performed after brushing, 50.0% of children with special health care needs (CSHCN) and 56.3% of children without special health care needs (CWSHCN) report washing their brush bristles with water (p <0.001). Both groups did not use an antiseptic solution on toothbrushes. 73.3% of (CSHCN) and 58.7% of (CWSHCN) answered that they use some protection (brush holder and bathroom cabinet) to avoid exposure of brushes to the environment (p <0.001). Conclusion: The children investigated by the study presented good conditions of care and storage of their toothbrushes. No contamination by pathogenic parasites was found during the study period.

Resumen
After the increase in scientific production in recent years, there aren’t reports of the profile of the publications made by the professors at the Faculty of Stomatology in Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (FAEST-UPCH) in the last 10 years. Objective: Analyze the publications in scientific journals by professors at the Faculty of Stomatology in Universidad Peruana in the period 2010-2019. Material and methods: The research was of a retrospective, descriptive, cross-sectional, observational design; Scientific publications made by teachers from 2010-2019 were identified. The variables were sex, professional practice, academic department, employment status, teaching category, academic degree, second specialty, publications by teacher, type of publication, year of publication, internationally indexed journals, Scimago classification and WoS classification. The databases for the bibliographic search were Scielo, Pubmed, Google Scholar, Scopus and WoS; A descriptive and bivariate analysis was performed with the STATA v. 16.0. Results: It was found that 58.38% (n = 101) of the professors had at least one publication, 52.28% (n = 241) were original articles, 4.56% (n = 20) were indexed internationally, 20.00% (n = 4) had FI ≥2

Resumen
Orthognathic surgery is a surgical procedure that generates intraoperative blood loss, which is why the oral and maxillofacial surgeon is constantly generating new techniques and technologies for the reduction of intraoperative blood loss. Objective: To determine the factors associated with intraoperative blood loss in orthognathic surgery. Material and Methods: It is a retrospective, descriptive, cross-sectional and analytical study. Sixty medical records of patients operated of orthognathic surgery were reviewed that met the selection criteria. The dependent variable was intraoperative blood loss and the covariates: type of orthognathic surgery, operator: Maxillofacial surgeon or resident of the program in maxillofacial surgeon, cutting instruments, operative time, prothrombin time, thromboplastin time, platelet count, age and sex. The statistical tests ANOVA, Student’s t, Spearman’s Rho and Pearson’s correlation were applied. Results: There is a significant difference in Intraoperative blood loss and operative time in relation to the operator who performed the surgery (p<0.005) and (p<0.001) there is also a direct correlation between intraoperative blood loss and operative time (p<0.05). Conclusions: The operator and the TO are variables directly associated with the PSI in the orthognathic surgery.
