The COVID-19 pandemic has generated a pedagogical vacuum in dental education, which, due to the clinical, practical and laboratory nature of the subjects, forced teachers to incorporate innovative digital teaching resources in which learning environments are simulated that help promote the development of skills and knowledge in search of continuous improvement. However, students have also seen the need to resort to virtual platforms that allow them to better adapt to this complex hybrid blended learning system. The findings of this review are the product of an exploratory study whose purpose was to identify the main Information and Communication Technologies and organize them according to interpretation tools, dynamic modeling; communication, collaboration and organization. In this way, we provide the academic community with a vision of their impact on the learning and self-learning process, their experiences of use and the perception of the benefits and limitations of these new technologies in a current context in Dentistry students. In the first part we address the state of the art on the pedagogical components of ICT, the role they play in higher education, the characteristics and standards they must meet to become cognitive tools allied to formal education, so that Allow the interaction and knowledge management of the students.Next, we share the results of an open survey of undergraduate students of a Peruvian School of Dentistry that was carried out as a preliminary diagnostic phase that became the starting point for the validation of instruments of a research work on experiences of the use of the ICT as digital and cognitive tools for teaching and learning in online dental education that has study code No. 0209 of the Research Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos; The responses obtained show the resources at the service of their formal and scientific skills related to users’ own skills called “digital natives” motivating them to be the protagonists of their learning and development of skills for adequate professional performance.

Orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption (OIIRR) is one of the most common complications of orthodontic treatment. Historically, only radiographic methods were available, while offering ease of use and accessibility, many limitations exist. Problems of technique, standardization, limited points of view and radiation exposure remain. Resorption can only be detected after a significant portion of the root has been lost (60% to70% mineralized tissue). Moreover, these methods are static and cannot indicate if the process of root resorption has arrested or is ongoing. Recently, oral fluids have been used as a tool for the diagnosis and monitoring of oral and systemic diseases through the detection of biomarkers. The purpose of this review is to describe the scientific evidence related to the prevalence, etiology, the traditional diagnostic methods and the advances in the detection of oral biomarkers through molecular biology for this pathology.

The present research arises from a concern regarding the lack of consensus on the concept of posterior bite collapse on which there is currently very little literature. The Objective was identify the relevant clinical factors in the diagnosis of a posterior bite collapse. Is a systematic review based on reports and case series. Was considered as dimensions: dental occlusion, muscle tissue, temporomandibular joint, periodontal tissue and radiographic examination. Of 82 initially selected articles, the review was carried out with 6 articles. The information was ordered describing each one of them, being the publications between 1987 and 2020. We can Conclude that Relevant clinical factors for the correct diagnosis of a posterior bite collapse were identified according to the study dimensions: loss of teeth, alteration of the vertical dimension, periodontitis, deviation in the opening and closing of the TMJ, and bone resorption, as the most predominant according to the diagnostic dimensions.

Mucocele is an inflammatory lesion of the common salivary gland in the oral cavity, generated by the accumulation of saliva, from the rupture of the minor salivary gland duct. The objective of this report was to describe a case of extravasation phenomena treated with high-power diode laser in association with photobiomodulation. The patient presented a nodular, exophytic lesion on the lower lip, similar in color to the mucosa, measuring 2 cm in diameter. Excisional biopsy was performed with high-power diode laser. Immediately after surgery and weekly thereafter, photobiomulation was performed with lower-power diode. After one-month, total repair of the surgical wound was observed, with minimal scarring, without lesion recurrence during 14 months of follow-up. Therefore, the treatment protocol used proved to be an effective, safe and fast alternative, bringing greater comfort to both professional and patient during the trans and postoperative periods.

Introduction: Study or independent work is a strategy that students develop to achieve the proposed training objectives. Diverse countries consider independent study as counting inside of credits from the formative program. Material and methods: A transverse, descriptive, and observational study was carried out. The population was composed of 49 students enrolled in the Undergraduate Stomatology Program of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, in the year 2021. The questionnaire in Google forms consisted of eleven questions and was sent by institutional email. The survey was validated (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.96). Results: 81.6% were women. The average hours that they dedicated to independent study between Monday and Friday was 3 hours (SD=1.4; Mín=1; Max=6) and on Saturdays and Sundays was 3.4 hours (SD = 1.4; Min = 0; Max = 7). 38.8% considered that the time they dedicated to independent study was not enough. As a regular activity, they spent 4.2 hours performing a case method and orthodontic laboratory activities, and as an occasional activity, they spent 8.4 hours on the portfolio. In the personal dimension, 71.4% had responsibilities at home, in the emotional dimension 65.3% experienced tension or stress, and in the physical dimension, 14,3% had health problems. 57.1% considered their study environment adequate and 81.6% considered that independent study was important. Conclusions: Independent study added to class activities involves ten hours of dedication by the fourth-year student, between Monday and Friday, which may represent an overload of hours that limits personal activities and responsibilities.

Mini-implants are metallic devices that are temporarily fixed to the bone and are used to achieve a wide variety of orthodontic movements. Today, they have become an important device that helps the orthodontist in all stages of treatment. The mini-implants are made with joints of different metals, so they are exposed to the corrosion process in the oral cavity. The release of ions can cause adverse physiological effects, including cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, carcinogenicity, and allergenic effects. This article seeks to review the corrosion of orthodontic mini-implants. The literature reports that the corrosion of mini-implants contributes to inflammation, which is a factor that influences the loss of these devices and the release of metal ions is one of its main causes. Additionally, corrosion can produce perforations and loss of thickness of the metal, which reduces the mechanical resistance and increases the risk of fracture.

In recent years, a new standard of resins called infiltrative resins has been generated, which were developed with the aim of contributing to non-invasive treatments, being used as a treatment for the diagnosis of non-cavitated carious lesions; although, currently its use has expanded to treat other types of lesions that affect the enamel such as dental fluorosis. For this review article, original articles, in vitro and in vivo research, case reports, systematic and literature reviews were selected; carrying out the search in 6 databases: PubMed, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, Wiley, EBSCO and Springer, from which information was obtained about the efficacy, benefits, clinical applications and application technique of the infiltrative resins.

The scientific article is defined as a written and published report that describes original results of an investigation. When writing any scientific text it is necessary to bear in mind that it is a reflection of the cognitive activity of man. The most recognized and considered form by many, as well as the one with the greatest social support, is publication in highly prestigious academic journals. For this, there must be a constant improvement of the scientific vocabulary and the way of structuring the knowledge that is provided. Every experiment must be written down so that other researchers can compare it and reproduce it. Otherwise, the results would be imprecise, short-lived and would be lost. This review article collects information from the Medline / PubMed database. Methodological tools are described, as well as a set of recommendations that allow writing a scientific article to be admitted in a scientific journal of impact.

Dental composite resins were introduced in the first half of the 20th century as a mechanical-aesthetic advance in the field of restorative dentistry, as a response to silicates, which at that time was the first choice restorative material, composite resin contains a matrix of organic made up of Bis-GMA and other dimethacrylate monomers (TEGMA, UDMA, silorans) doing them susceptible to pigmentation with extrinsic substances, in this case drinks, such as red wine, tea and coffee are the main cause of the pigmentation of resins. Objective: To Review and analyze the available literature that answers the question: what are the most common extrinsic factors that cause pigmentation of composite resins?

Objective: To determine the impact of caries and dental trauma on the quality of life of pre-school children and their families. Material and Methods: Observational, cross-sectional study in 150 pre-school children from 3 to 5 years old of both genders of urban and marginal urban educational institutions. The parents signed the consent and answered the socio-economic file and the ECOHIS questionnaire (Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale) according to the perception of oral health related Quality of Life (QoL) of their children. Three examiners were calibrated, intra and inter-examiner agreement was measured, the result was Kappa 0.9. The clinical examination for caries and dental trauma was according to the criteria established by the WHO. The statistical analysis was performed by SPSS statistical package and spreadsheets. Dental caries was related to HRQOL (p <0.005 Anova), and dental trauma to HRQOL (p <0.05 U of Mann Whitney). Results: The domains with negative impact on ECOHIS were oral symptoms (20%) and parental distress (44.7%). The impact on the child section of the ECOHIS rural public schools presented a high average experience (14) and progression (1.47) of caries. While the impact on the family section, urban private schools were affect by dental trauma (66.7%). Conclusions: Caries generated a negative impact on children, families and HRQoL of pre-school children from rural public schools. Dental trauma only affected families in urban private schools.
