Resumen
This article examines how Puerto Rican leftist armed organizations during the 1970s constructed the worker as a central revolutionary subject within their political project. Its objective is to analyze the class imaginaries that sustained this representation and to understand how the figure of the worker was used to legitimize armed struggle in the context of late colonialism. Based on the analysis of internal documents, manifestos, party newspapers, and ideological publications, the article concludes that the image of the proletariat did not necessarily reflect a concrete social reality but rather an idealized figure embodying values such as sacrifice, discipline, and centrality in production. This representation was key to articulating a collective revolutionary subject, although it often clashed with the real-life trajectories of workers who joined these organizations. The article offers a critical reading of how notions of class are produced within armed political projects, showing that they are not mere reflections of economic structures but ideological constructions. Its originality lies in linking the analysis of militant discourse with the Puerto Rican colonial context—an approach that remains underexplored in recent Latin American historiography. The study draws on primary sources produced by the revolutionary organizations themselves—such as the Puerto Rican Socialist Party, the PRTP-Macheteros, and the Armed Forces of Popular Resistance—as well as on secondary literature specializing insocial history, Marxism, and labor studies.

Resumen
This article examines the position of Gabriel Terra’s government regarding Uruguay’s international orientation during the Seventh Pan-American Conference, held in Montevideo in December, 1933. Through the study of the Uruguayan government delegation’s interventions, as well as presidential speeches. The article reviews the ideas and arguments formulated about the country’s and region’s projection in a context of tensions within the international structure. It also seeks to place this episode in dialogue with classical interpretations of the Uruguayan foreign policy and to problematize the categories used to describe it. While it has been argued that the March regime represented a “conservative turn” in international affairs, aligning itself with other authoritarian governments and maintaining strong opposition to multilateralism, the conference is interpreted here as a space for reaffirming the government’s Pan-American orientation in line with a preceding tradition of international engagement.

Resumen
The core issues that guide this article revolve around the history of the republic, in New Spain and Santafé de Bogotá, offering special attention to relating the thematic vanguard of historiographical work on independence, in which an assumed, ignored or rejected point of view of reflexive, cultural and post-structuralist history of royal power, political revolution and colonial rule are part of its past and history. This general overview of the topic of the persistence and effectiveness of royal power in Latin America during and after the independence process concludes with our perspective on the approach, problem and theme. This article provides a way to examine the unreflective aspects of royal power, not as a visible institution but as a structuring logic provided by its social, symbolic and institutional practices inherited from the monarchical order, which shaped what would become the times of independence and post-independence.

Resumen
In this text we present the research results of our postgraduate thesis, which in 2023 was awarded the Prize for the Best Master’s Thesis by the Pan American Institure of Geography and History (paigh). The thesis was supervised by Dr. Danny Monsálvez Araneda and was defended on November 3rd, 2021, at the Universidad de Concepción, obtaining a Master’s degree in History. The objective of the research was to analyze the presence of Brazilian and Argentine social scientists intellectuals exiled in the Chilean cities of Santiago and Concepción between 1964 and 1973, considering the course of their itineraries, the intellectual and political networks forged and the circulation of ideas they fostered. Through the application of interviews and the consultation of press, magazines, institutional and autobiographical documents, we argue that from the university spaces —the Universidad de Chile, the Universidad Católica and the Universidad de Concepción— the Brazilian and Argentine intellectuals exiled in Chile contributed to the process of institutionalization of the social sciences, collaborating in the creation of concepts and theories, disputing the meanings of scientific activity and internationalizing the intellectual environment of both Chilean cities. Thus, using the tools of intellectual history, we approach the 1960’s from a different perspective, articulating, on one hand, regional and national processes with continental ones, and on the other hand, focusing on the repercussions of the sociopolitical effervescence of the time on the intellectual life of Santiago and Concepción.

Resumen
This article analyzes the impact of preaching on Rio de la Plata society during the transition from the 18th to the 19th century, exploring how religious discourses contributed to the construction of collective identities, the legitimization of political power, and the shaping of social memory in the context of historical transformation.
Based on the study of 28 sermons, 14 manuscripts and 14 printed texts, and contemporary bibliographical sources, three fundamental functions were identified: strengthening community ties through shared values, symbolically supporting the emerging political order during the formation of the nationstate, and reinterpreting historical events from a religious perspective, thereby creating a common symbolic framework.
Ecclesiastical discourse reflected the tension between a declining colonial tradition and a preaching style adapted to the challenges of national construction. In this process, the clergy, as an influential intellectual sector, played a key role as intermediaries in interpreting social, political, and cultural tensions of the time.
Beyond the transmission of doctrine, sermons are analyzed as performative discourses that articulated religion, politics, and culture, influencing both everyday dynamics and power structures. This comprehensive approach highlights how preaching from the pulpit shaped the spiritual life and social relationships of Rio de la Plata, revealing the deep interconnection between faith and governance.
The main contribution of this research lies in its specific focus on a concrete context and transitional period, examining the relationship between the colonial order in crisis and the emerging governance structures. It also underscores the integration of the sacred orators’ training and their access to rhetorical texts with the analysis of sermon content, emphasizing how these discourses were strategically adapted to diverse audiences. This offers new insights into the role of preaching during this critical moment of structural change.

Resumen
The main objective of this article is to examine how conservative elites in Antioquia utilized civic rituals and public commemorations to legitimize their political power, foster a cohesive regional identity, and challenge the dominant centralist and liberal narratives during the second half of the nineteenth century. This analysis aims to shed light on the role of cultural and symbolic practices in state formation in Latin America, particularly in Colombia. The article adopts a qualitative and interdisciplinary approach to explore significant events, such as the funeral of Pedro Justo Berrío and the time capsule from Medellín’s bicentennial in 1875. Analyzing primary sources, including poetry, funeral orations, obituaries, periodicals, and archival documents, reveals how these acts reinforced the cohesion of an imagined political community, a sense of belonging grounded in tradition, religion, and authority.
