This article studies some important points about glides in Spanish, since their phonological status doesn't seem to be clear. It raises the following issues: if, in fact, it's relevant a division between semivowels and semiconsonants in Spanish diphtongs, if glides can be assigned to /i/ and /u/ phonemes or to /j/ and /w/ phonemes, and if sequences of glide plus vowel form complex syllabic nucleus.

The main objective of this paper is to disentangle the essence of Carmen Naranjo's novel El caso 117.729. This extraordinary novel expounds the reality of a society that is disintegrating, vanishing, and rotting, similar to the main character of the novel. This man is fighting a terrible mental and physical illness that no doctor knows how to treat. The technique that the author uses to expose her points of view is what makes it very unique. The structure is fragmented; however, the plot does not lose its coherence.

In this course I will present the results of an investigation into a pedagogical strategy for the teaching of written Spanish to non native students. The outcome of which is focused on the process rather than the product. This methodology is centered on distinct upper level thinking activities used by the writer to compose a text. It takes into account the complete period time, which begins when a circumstance is created which stimulates the idea for the production of the text and all the way through until it is finished. Within the scope of this process the final version of the text or product is demonstrated, but more important is the description and the learning of all the intermediate steps and strategies which can be utilized in the writing. In this way the process includes three stages: the pre-writing phase, first drafts and revisions. There is equal and vital importance given to the roles played by both students and teachers in this process.

At the crossroads of bordering areas and meeting points of diverse peoples, reflections on national identity bloom magnificently. The Mexico-U.S. borderline arises as a symbolic landmark of the Hispanic-American/Anglo-American "encounter and dis-encounter." However, thanks to the literary production of Carlos Fuentes, particularly in La frontera de cristal, such a border is rearranged into a space to solve Latin American identity issues, if migration is understood as a hybridization/crossbreeding phenomenon that prevails over and above the concepts of nationality and identity. With this material, Fuentes pulls together a nine-story novel, alluding to his own proposal of new models to understand reality and fiction.

The treatment of the independence of Cuba in the Spanish novel of the nighteenth century is the subject that we approached in this work. Few novels were written on this topic, among others, the Separatist (1895) of Eduardo López Bago. The story recreates the differences between the interests of the metropolis and those of the colony, with the evocation of several positions that struggled there. The point of view that prevails in the end is the one of the author, defender of the non separation of Cuba from the metropolis.

Given three textual elements: mice cancer, life in shanties and castration, a metonymy of the Spanish postwar is constructed in the novel Tiempo de Silencio. The symbolic values of these images assemble a city that determines the failure and the final exclusion of the main character, thus criticizing the environment during Franco's dictatorship.
