Following a series of studies in recent years that has sought to evaluate the mechanisms provided by the media for citizen participation, social networks, particularly Facebook and Twitter, has been appointed as new participatory spaces. This work wonders to what extent they can be as sources revitalizing civic participation in the online public sphere. Social networking mechanisms will be more attractive to receive citizens’ participation? In the context of regional press as well we try to understand how newspapers are present in social networks, expanding opportunities for the exercise of active citizenship. To achieve this place, we compare eight regional publications studied in the project “Citizens’ Agenda”, sensing how they manage their presence on social networks and how they actually represent a new possibility of participation.

Resumen
The new scientific paradigm proposed by cognitive science (cf. Gardner, 1989) gives researchers the chance to revisit the consideration and the role of assumptions, procedures and tools that became outdated with the incorporation of new theories and insights in numerous disciplines. An example for this situation is the treatment that contrastive analysis (CA) has been given in different perspectives. Whereas within conductist-oriented theories, CA was expected to prevent learners from making errors and mistakes in the 60´s, it was used for giving an explanation of the errors due to interference up to the mid 80´s, before being banned from systematic research on second language acquisition (SLA) processes from the late 80´s onwards. Notwithstanding, the application of the epistemological underpinnings of cognitivism onto first language and SLA processes allows for a reconsideration of the benefit of CA as a procedural tool for equipping the second language learner with the cognitive support that contributes to the active construction of the knowledge and skills of the future second language.

Resumen
The particular problems which arise during the translation of illustrated texts are seldom studied unless those texts are being used in advertising. However, the majority of books published and translated today contain both text and images, presented within a carefully thought-out layout. The following study shows how analysing the visual message and breaking it down into two levels of signification, denotation and connotation, provides an invaluable translation framework for professional translators aiming to meet the precise expectations of modern publishers. As a result, this study advocates the introduction of multisemiotic translation courses during professional training.

Resumen
The aim of this work is to show the problems associated to the Basque terminology management as far as Intellectual Property is concerned (PI in Spanish). The development and writing of Intellectual Property related documents, like patents, are made using a specific and complex language, which has its own characteristics as well. In that sense, we must state that the competence of the register and publication of the patents is competence of the Spanish Government exclusively. However, we may consider important to make a comparison between the translations of these kinds of documents from Spanish into Basque for two main reasons. On the one hand, Basque is an agglutinative language whose lexical formation is made by the addition of independent monems, so extremely long sentences are produced. On the other hand, there are hardly any terms in Basque for the translations of patents. As a consequence, the translator from Spanish into Basque will have to assume the responsibility of transferring specialized content without previous terminology references.

Resumen
Translation didactics has always been focused in providing students with the necessary tools to make them able to produce from a first language communication skills, functionally adapted communication skills in a second language. This is, certainly, an irreproachable aim. However, in certain cases, reaching moderately satisfactory results, when students have not been fully conscious of the consequences or implications of the materials they have been working with, is possible. In this way a very peculiar problem arises, since it is obvious that this deep knowledge lack can give place to conflicts or important distortions. The present article tries to put limits to these problems and to offer solution proposals to this issue. To sort it out, an experience in the classroom, including different aspects of what it means "to understand" and "to elaborate" a text, is set, bearing in mind the scope of every communicative and mediation act.

Resumen
This article explores the importance of reading comprehension as prerequisite for translation. For this purpose, we have conducted an Analysis of Errors in translations of German news articles that were performed by Spanish university students. Based on this analysis we propose a series of classroom activities to improve comprehension of original texts.
