Objective: to describe the epidemiological characteristics of the COVID-19 pandemic in a pole municipality in the health microregion, in the years 2020 and 2021. Method: descriptive and quantitative study, with an ecological approach and based on secondary data, in which the unit of analysis was a hub municipality in the health micro-region of the state of Minas Gerais. For data collection, municipal epidemiological bulletins, in the public domain, published daily by the City Hall were used. The epidemiological characteristics of interest were: number of monthly and cumulative cases, number of monthly deaths according to sex and age, and cumulative, incidence coefficients, mortality and lethality, and occupancy rate of intensive care unit beds. Results: 6,882 cases and 157 accumulated deaths were recorded, with the highest percentage of deaths (57.96%) in males and aged 60 years and over (63.69%). The incidence, mortality and lethality coefficients were, respectively, 13,175.3/100 thousand inhabitants, 300.6/100 thousand inhabitants, and 2.28%. The average monthly occupancy rate of intensive care unit beds remained above 85% during the first half of 2021, reaching 121%. Conclusion: the epidemiological indicators are similar to those of larger municipalities and/or macro-regions, and corroborate the tendency for the disease to be internalized. The data suggest the imminence of a collapse of the local health system, which did not occur thanks to non-pharmacological measures to contain the chain of transmission and, especially, to the advance of immunization.

Objective: To analyze breastfeeding promotion strategies and factors related to early weaning among mothers, users of a Family Health Strategy in a city in the north of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Method: This is a descriptive, exploratory study of a qualitative nature carried out with 16 mothers. Data were collected between August and September 2020 through a semi-structured interview, analyzed using Content Analysis. Results: The health team encourages breastfeeding through health education and guidance during multidisciplinary care. Even knowing the importance and benefits of breastfeeding, mothers have difficulties to practice breastfeeding due to the presence of fissures and pain in the breasts. They reported early weaning due to low milk production, difficult latch on by the baby and introduction of artificial teats. Conclusions: Mothers are aware of the benefits of breastfeeding through multidisciplinary actions, but these were not enough to prevent early weaning. Widely known causes of early weaning remain rooted in the culture of mothers and it should be routine for health professionals to demystify the factors that negatively influence the promotion of breastfeeding.

Objective: analyze and predict cervical cancer incidence and mortality rates, using time series models. Method: ecological study, carried out in the capital Matogrossense. The incidence data were from the Population Based Cancer Registry, from 2000 to 2012, and mortality data, from 1981 to 2018, obtained from the Mortality Information System. And analyzed by the ARIMA and HOLT models. Results: the series of the incidence rate of carcinoma in situ, the appropriate model was the AR (1). Estimated projections (2013-2014) fluctuated between 15,54 and 16,45 per hundred a thousand women. In the invasive cervixl series, the model was Holt’s, and the predictions (2013-2014), with values between 11,28 to 8,9 per 100 thousand women. In the mortality rate, the satisfactory model was ARMA (1,1), whose predictions (2019-2020) fluctuated between 9,46 and 9,62 per 100 thousand women. Conclusion: in the three cases, the predicted rates presented levels close to those observed, indicating that the models allowed estimating and predicting, in an adequate way. It was also possible to observe a slight increase in in situ cancer and a decline in the incidence of invasive cancer, while mortality showed stability in the results and predictions. Descriptors: ARIMA; Cervical Cancer; Incidence; Mortality; Holt's method.

Feco-oral diseases account for the largest number of notifications of morbidities recorded in the Indigenous Health Care Information System (SIASI), with diarrhea being the third cause of infant mortality, caused mainly by inadequate sanitation and hygiene conditions, which motivated the construction of the National Program for Access to Potable Water in Indigenous Lands (PNATI), which aims to universalize access to potable water in indigenous communities to provide water in adequate quantity and quality and contribute to improving the health of this population. The objective is to implement new water supply systems and repair existing ones, mobilizing government resources and strategic partners. The PNATI implementation methodology has actions planned for the next 20 years and intends, based on the improvement of the internal management of the Special Indigenous Sanitary Districts, to expand the control of water quality, carry out training on infrastructure management and the connection between water, sanitation and public health for system operators and the indigenous population. The program started in 2022 and is already showing the first results through training in some communities in the north of the country, promoting dialogue between indigenous peoples, health and sanitation professionals.
