Content analysis (CA) is one of the main techniques for analysing qualitative data in Brazilian science, but it has been verified in different fields low quality of its application and a predominant use of Laurence Bardin's manual. The present research seeks to make a qualitative assessment of studies based on CA in different areas of research in Brazil. For that, we built a sample of 549 articles extracted from SciELO Brazil that applied the technique and then we applied a quantitative and qualitative content analysis to assess the quality of these publications. The results indicate a low quality of the articles in terms of explicitness and availability of the categories and units of analysis and of concern with reliability, methodological transparency and data validation. The research also reinforces the exacerbated and uncritical use of Bardin's manual. We argue that this is a general issue of the technique’s use in the country and the urgent need for a greater epistemological and methodological discussion.

This paper aims to point out lessons about the scientific research process that can be extracted from the classic literary work Journey to the Center of the Earth, by Jules Verne. It starts with the argument that research is similar to a journey. To carry them out, prior preparation, the definition of a destination (objective) and the means on how to reach it (methodology) are required. The paper analyses four lessons which can be taken from Verne's work and can serve as compass for scientific research: (i) the research question must be well defined and doing so is not easy; (ii) the research methodology must be adequate and feasible; (iii) organization is essential; (iv) research is not always a bed of roses.

This study presents and discusses some basic concepts for understanding the application of sample construction and closing techniques, emphasizing the most used to carry out qualitative investigations and the relevance of choice for research in the health field. Based on the literature and the practice of the researcher and supervisor of the stricto sensu postgraduate course, we sought to elucidate situations necessary to consider the conditions of choice and qualifications of the participants in the sample. We have explored the following questions: which concepts are important for understanding the sample construction process? What strategies and types involved in sample construction are indicated for qualitative investigations? What conditions are necessary to guide access to participants in a qualitative sample in the health field? How must sample closure techniques be conducted in qualitative health research? In qualitative logic, we realize that the details and planning of sampling techniques in clinical research must permeate technical, contextual, human, and ethical decisions.

This article discusses the Brazilian Literacy Movement (MOBRAL), created in 1967, during the Civil-Military Dictatorship, with the aim of eradicating the high rates of illiteracy in Brazil. This is a bibliographic and documental research with a qualitative approach. We used, as sources, 6 photographs presents in two textbooks of MOBRAL. It was found that the photographs, besides illustrating those books, disseminated the interests and the model of education proposed by the dictatorship, which saw in the education of adolescents and adults a means to achieve the economic development of Brazil. The study has shown the relevance of photography as a historical document, since it allows the construction of senses and meanings, and it is necessary for the researcher to interpret it, considering the articulation between social, political, economic and cultural factors, thus overcoming a fragmented understanding of these records.

Thirlwall (1979) stated that economic growth mainly in developing countries is limited by the balance of payments, due to dependence on exports. The objective of this paper was to verify the economic growth under the Thirlwall's law approach extended to capital flows for the Chilean case during 1980-2019. The data were obtained from the World Bank development indicators (2021). An econometric strategy was applied through the process of a Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model, Granger causality (1969), Engle-Granger (1987) and Johansen (1991) cointegration, and finally a Vector Error Correction (VEC) model is estimated to determine the long-run relationship. The results show that Thirlwall's Law is satisfied. Furthermore, by integrating capital flows (FDI) the country has demonstrated a long-run relationship. There is a bidirectional relationship between Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and exports, and a unidirectional relationship going from GDP to FDI. Economic policy could focus on diversifying exports, and encouraging the entry of new capital by relaxing domestic regulatory terms. The educational strategy at a higher level during social distancing due to Covid-19 confirmed communication barriers exacerbated by the quality of internet connectivity, especially in rural areas. The objective is to analyze the interaction between response capacity, educational technologies, connectivity quality and learning experience from the social, cultural and infrastructure conditions. Through phenomenological approach, we guide our understanding of learning experiences and practices. The results follow the same direction as that indicated in the literature for the case of Latin America and the Caribbean, a region that during the pandemic showed lags in internet connectivity services. The deficit in telecommunications infrastructure in rural areas of the Southeast of Mexico translated into a growing dissatisfaction of students due to the constant interruptions during classes, which translated into low performance during their online courses. It is concluded that, despite a correct institutional strategy based on management capacity and the use of technologies applied to education, the educational experience provided by face-to-face classes is placed above the virtual experience.
