This paper reflects on the role of the university amidst current changes, focusing on productive transformations and the advancement of artificial intelligence, using the film Gattaca as a metaphor. Through the theories of Pierre Bourdieu and Michel Freitag, the implications of growing social inequality and unequal access to technology are explored. The need for universities to promote contemplation, encounters with otherness, and the improvement of everyday life is emphasized, addressing the challenges of a constantly changing world.

Higher education institutions, through their graduate programs, seek to direct their efforts towards social relevance and thus contribute to the development of communities. The objective of this research was to analyze the scope of the degree´s projects carried out by graduates of the master’s program in Management for Sustainable Development. Under the principles of qualitative research, based on an exploratory study. The ATLAS.ti software was used to analyze 50 research projects from 2015 to 2022. Using a framing matrix, the variables were categorized into 1) Social leadership role of higher education and 2) Linkage of the curriculum through the geographical location of the projects, environmental focus, management, line of generation and application of knowledge, Sustainable Development Goals and central theme. The results reveal: a greater participation of women, the promotion of SDGs 5, 11 and 15, the location of the projects in 5 regions of Guerrero and their social focus. This leads to the strengthening of the postgraduate program and its consolidation through the recognition of its contributions to the resolution of social problems through the co-production of knowledge and the promotion of the organizational capacities of local stakeholders.

Higher education is a strategic asset for nations, as it is the indissoluble link between the generation of highly trained human capital and the production and dissemination of knowledge that favor the formation of fairer societies and more competitive economies. The objective of this article was to examine the situation of higher education in the country and in the municipalities of the State of Chihuahua through the statistical information generated by the National Association of Universities and Institutions of Higher Education (ANUIES), regarding enrollment, graduates and certified graduates, disaggregated by sex, as well as by study program (careers). For the 2021-2022 cycle, in Mexico a total enrollment of 4,646,825 university students was registered; 741,274 graduates, as well as 475,070 certified graduates. For its part, the State of Chihuahua participated with 136,962 enrolled, 20,707 graduates and 14,970 certified graduates, representing 2.9%, 2.8% and 3.2% of these educational lines with respect to the country, respectively. This work is intended to make a contribution that allows policy makers, administrators of policy and educational institutions, as well as teachers, to have information regarding trends and issues of higher education in the state and the country.

Philosophy is the area of knowledge that is oldest, and, in the same way, it is the one that has the longest institutionalized training. The studies of philosophy in Mexico were established as a school education since colonial times; From that moment on, different teaching models have been configured that have led it to be one of the professional formations with the greatest presence in the country. This work presents a historical descriptive account and the approach of four founding moments of philosophy teaching in Mexico, the most recent being the one that raises its perspectives of relevance under contemporary university educational models.

Using data from a survey applied to graduates of a state public university in Mexico, the article characterizes the quality of the employment they obtain in the labor market. Using multivariate methods, three indices constructed that assess working conditions and remuneration to address the quality of occupations and the factors that determine it. We find that the proportion that has a job with the characteristics defined as desirable is relatively low and that a third holds positions that are not in line with their education. The main influencing factors found are position, economic sector, area of study and additional education.

This article presents the findings of an extended research project conducted within the framework of Community and Intercultural Higher Education initiatives, which are organized and led by Indigenous communities in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. The study centers on the analysis of the biographical and educational trajectories of students who choose to pursue higher education grounded in the principles of comunalidad, across three educational institutions: ISIA, Unixhidza, and MEC. A key finding of this study is articulated through the concept of political subjectivities, which allows us to understand the student as a subject embedded in broader processes—familial, communal, and territorial—that shape and accompany their educational experience. This perspective emphasizes the interrelation between individual formation and collective commitment. The methodology combined ethnographic observation, context-sensitive interviews, and the co-construction of biographical narratives, carried out over the period from 2017 to 2022. In conclusion, the study argues that intercultural and communal higher education in Oaxaca emerges as: (a) a response to the appropriation and reproduction of Indigenous knowledge systems that have been historically marginalized within formal education, particularly at the tertiary level; (b) a pathway for professionalization within communities, aimed at creating viable life opportunities without the necessity of migration; and (c) a mechanism for strengthening community-based institutions.
