The objective of this research is to analyze literatura and especially the various writers present in the documentary series Biografía, broadcast by Televisión Española between 1967 and 1973. The result provides a holistic view of television as a reflection of culture in a specific period: the last years of the Francoism, through the broadcast of 16 chapters dedicated to synthesizing the life and work of writers who stood out in their professional careers in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is shown that Biografía presented a masculine world of internationally recognized intellectuals and that it innovated the documentary by contributing elements of television, such as the gathering.

The present paper carries out a study about the audiovisual dissemination and social communication uses and strategies on YouTube by a selection of outstanding national and international scientific institutions. The analysis of the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the videos published on the platform by each of these institutions has allowed us to characterize their profile and dissemination style on YouTube. We have also concluded the influence of the duration of the videos and the variety of the languages in the diffusion rates reached, as well as that of the demographic variety and the communication styles used by these institutions in their satisfaction rates, among other things to consider.

The way in which we consume content has evolved, as scientists have adopted the strategies to disseminate their latest advances. International organisations are promoting a more open and innovative concept of science in which new ways of disseminating scientific knowledge are being sought. Among these media, video games stand out for their recreational and narrative components that allow the player to experience science in first person. Within this media there are diverse ways of presenting scientific findings, either in a pedagogical way through serious games or through pure entertainment with commercial video games. In both formats, interacting with the recreational experience produces a greater degree of empathy and engagement to the knowledge transmitted, which makes video games an ideal resource for popularising science.

Animation is a growing tool in the dissemination of knowledge. Separated from scientific illustration and animated documentaries, the proposal of scientific animation has been consolidated in research and educational productions in the last decade thanks to the showcase provided by the Internet. In this article we present the three aspects that we consider key to its development: its didactic function, its technological scope and the increase in the commercialisation of these products. Through the different approaches from which the current evolution of scientific animation is being studied, the Internet offers two manifestations that serve as examples in our study: YouTube channels as windows to scientific animation and companies that offer their popularisation services through animation, fully aware of the results of academic research through their publications on this subject.

Cinema and television are indisputable allies for the popularisation of science, and biopics by recreating the lives of exemplary scientists and showing the research process, allow us to learn about how science works. This article describes the evolution of the biopics dedicated to scientists, from the first films of the 1930s, with a linear route and a presentation of the scientist as a hero, to more recent films, where other social and psychological aspects are taken into account. The different characteristics that define the profile of the researcher, almost always positive, are also covered, and show the different phases of the research process are included, from observation to the presentation of results.

This article, in an exploratory and theoretical way, intends to observe how the use of digital media and the new media relations developed have impacted the organization of society in Hypermodernity, highlighting the weakening of otherness and the development of individualism. It is observed that society has valued emission more than reception. Phenomenon that will be called the issuing company.

Fragmented Spectres is a body of photographic work interpreting the archaeological findings in The Rocks, Sydney. This work, created by the co-author of this paper, was showcased as a three-month site-specific exhibition at The Rocks Discovery Museum. The work explores the materiality of objects and their reinterpretation. In this case, the objects used were interpreted as large scale photograms of bottles and other vernacular objects found as part of an archaeological dig in the city of Sydney. These interred objects, found long buried in a disused well, could be regarded as vestiges of a country’s colonial past and consequential European settlement. This paper analyses the techniques used by the artist to capture the objects from a colonial past, and how these have become works of art which allow for a creative interpretation of archaeological science.

The informative work on biology by Jean Painlevé (1902-1989), a filmmaker and scientist related to surrealism, includes dozens of films and writings. The historiography of cinema has approached this corpus from the uniqueness and avant-garde of its proposals. This article proposes a conceptual definition of Painlevé's style, within the concept of nature documentary, calling it "surrealist nature documentary", a trend that did not occur as an isolated event, but as a movement of scientific filmmakers, produced between 1915 and 1940. Defining the surrealist nature documentary is a way of giving a name to a trend that, at the time of the avant-garde, found beauty in biology and adopted rigorous cinematographic techniques to combine abstraction with popular science, as shown by an approximation analysis to the most didactic work of Painlevé.

Among the internal and external communication tools used by universities, social networks allow them to access their users and potential audiences directly and without intermediaries. This research analyzes the use made of Facebook and Twitter by three reference higher education centers, in order to analyze the themes and the main uses of the different platforms, as well as to study the level of engagement of the contents. In total, 1,217 messages published during a two-month period have been analyzed. The results indicate that the scientific dissemination of the results of the research carried out in these centers is the main content of these messages, although there are differentiated uses of each of the platforms.

The evolution of documentaries and their fusion with interactive online media have favoured the consolidation of new communication formats such as webdoc that favour a more appropriate communication for today's audiences. The article develops a case study as a paradigmatic example applied to the popularisation of science.
