This article seeks to explain the extent to which transnational forces are responsible for advances –and setbacks– in the ongoing transition to democracy inMexico. It argues that external elements did play a role during this democratization. Concrete examples of transnational forces are analyzed to assess their impact on domestic politics, including the relationship between economic reform and political liberalization –two free trade agreements are analyzed– and the Mexican government’s attitudes toward democracywithin the Inter-American system. The article concludes that transnational elements play a significant role as instruments offering opportunities and posing limits to democratization.

Aerospace is made up of air space and the outer space closest to the Earth; the two of them are constantly readjusting their dynamic. Aerospace  security concerns safe, sustained, sustainable access to the uses and applications of this space, as well as the absence of threats from this region. A comprehensive conception of aerospace security takes into consideration military, environmental, commercial, civilian, or legal threats. Clear norms and codes of conduct are indispensable to this, and the legal vacuum regarding disarmament and the arms race must be filled.

This article presents a historiographic review of the consolidation of the U.S. technical-industrial network, noting the emergence of a peculiar military Keynsianism that characterizes and heavily influences not only the technical and scientific sphere, but also production and even the political- economic systemitself, with important implications even today.Among themis the erosion of the U.S.’s own civilian technical-industrial capabilities in the face of inter-capitalist competition, taking into account that both China and Russia are countries with clear State capitalist models. The text then presents a comparative analysis of the current state of U.S. technical-scientific capabilities, along with a reflection about its possible implications for the near future.

In 2010, we witnessed a series of events showing the shifting state of clandestine migration all along the border between Mexico and the United States. This article, based on interviews with people deported by U.S. authorities, reviews several themes rarely looked at in the literature, and brings newperspectives to better known topics. These are all integral parts of the network of violence woven into the experiences of border crossings. The authors discuss different  manifestations of that violence as they explain both the structural forces that spawn and characterize it and individual reactions to these factors.
