The paper analyzes the intentionalist thesis as a solution to indeterminacy's problems in legal interpretation. The inquiry focuses on the indeterminacy that arises from two features of language, i.e. vagueness and open texture. In these cases, according to the intentionalist thesis, the interpreter must look for the intention of the author of the text. To avoid certain objections to the thesis, but also to show its limits, the paper analyzes how the thesis works in the case of the interpretation of contracts and shows that the intention cannot solve problems of vagueness, even though it seems to be useful to solve problems of open texture. Nevertheless, the last section explores the difficulties that must be faced when identifying the intention of the author and comes to the conclusion that in the end the intention cannot solve, in a definitive way, problems of indeterminacy.

Carlos S. Nino's liberalism evolved from his first works related to Criminal Law towards the construction of a theory of a deliberative democracy. Since his early work following classic liberal as John Stuart Mill, up to his final book in which he support egalitarianism, there were some structures that were articulated during this process: personal autonomy and other moral values in opposition to moral perfectionism. This paper presents Nino's liberalism and shows that this anti-perfectionism inspired by classic liberalism that was fundamental to building his concept of personal autonomy remained up to his final works. The point of the paper is to demonstrate that this anti-perfectionism continues to be a problem for his development of a theory of an egalitarian deliberative democracy.

Friar Nicolás de la Iglesia, prior of the Carthusian monastery of Burgos, ordered the decoration of a chapel devoted to the Virgin Mary with Marian emblems. Shortly thereafter, between 1653-1654, he inserted them —adding some new ones, bringing the total to fifty-one— in a book dedicated to the Immaculate Conception entitled: Flores de Miraflores, hieroglificossagrados, verdadesfiguradas, sombrasverdaderas del Mysterio de la Inmaculada Concepción de la Virgen y Madre de Dios MaríaSeñoranuestra. We are faced therefore with the phenomenon of a pictorial collection that gives rise to a written work. This study analyzes the hieroglyphs created by Friar Nicolás, explaining their sources and meaning.

Daily photo projects are contemporary photographic practises whose authors take a daily self-portrait with a digital camera until the day they dye. Pictures are assembled in videos that concentrate their lifetime in minutes. Then, a whole life is visualized in a sequence of instants, of snapshots. These works in progress display a new sight to the topic of vanitas and self-portrait because they are proper allegories of life, especially because of the presence of death at the end of them. The montage transforms these projects in «vanitas in motion» because the sequence of instants shows the getting old process.

This study deals briefly with the content of Format-Büchlein, printed in Graz between 1670 and 1677, a work on different book formats, although it also includes many other considerations on the art of printing. I comment on some of the illustrations on typographical matters that are included in the work.

In Spanish emblem books the figure of the bad shepherd is used to criticize the excessive tax system and the abandonment of power by the king. Two types of representations are used: the rustic shepherd and the mythological shepherd. These are applied both to the power of the state and to the individual arena.
