The article aims to analyze and describe the process through which youth, women, and teacher groups became active elements in the political system of Chiapas, Mexico, between 1925 and 1945. The assimilation of these groups into the control structures facilitated the operation of the corporatist model and strengthened the ties between the Presidency of the Republic and local forces. The analysis is based on circulars, press notes, letters, official documents, communications, phone calls, and editorials. From the interpretation of the mentioned primary sources, the article suggests the consolidation of practices that allowed individuals from the ranks of the official party to remain in key positions of power, benefiting the operability of the political system.

A qualitative study was conducted with the aim of understanding the collective memory of a group of indigenous women living in the metropolitan area of Monterrey (Nuevo León, Mexico) regarding the food they consumed when they lived in rural areas. Through semi-structured interviews, they were asked about the food practices and knowledge of their communities. The results showed that their collective memory evoked an environment of unity between them, the countryside, and the products derived from their harvests. It was noted that corn was highly valued and constituted the basis of their diet. All of them knew how to grow their own food and possessed traditional culinary knowledge, such as tortilla-making. It is important to value the way of life of indigenous groups, who show a deep respect for nature, as well as to appreciate their traditional recipes, which have been passed down from generation to generation.

This article explores women’s reproductive experiences as embodied learning processes, while also examining the impact of social class on these experiences. Using a qualitative methodology with a biographical-narrative approach, it analyzes the stories of eight women from lower, middle, and upper social classes, all of whom are mothers of two children and reside in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas. The findings reveal that the knowledge gained during the first pregnancy significantly shapes the experience of the second, and that this embodied learning process is deeply influenced by socioeconomic conditions. Overall, the results highlight the diversity of reproductive experiences and underscore the need for sensitive, personalized care, as well as the importance of addressing inequalities that affect access to information and decision-making during pregnancy and childbirth.

This study analyzes the consequences of violence and forced displacement on reproductive health and maternity of women in Chiapas, Mexico, within a context marked by increasing armed conflicts and the presence of organized crime. The research combines a literature review focused on the relationship between armed conflicts and reproductive health with the collection of life stories from three displaced women in 2024, who shared their experiences during the maternity process. The findings reveal limited access to prenatal care, as well as an increase in maternal complications. This study also emphasizes the urgent need to strengthen healthcare and protective measures for displaced women, and highlights the lack of specific research in Mexico, calling for the adoption of more inclusive approaches tailored to local contexts.

With the objective of reconstructing trajectories of ex-combatants of the Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN) as members of the National Civil Police (PNC) of El Salvador, this article discusses the concept of post-insurgency reconversion and its application for understanding the post-war period. The qualitative methodology of labor trajectories and their relationship with key milestones in security policies is applied. Among the results of the analysis of interviews with 16 key informants, substantial differences were identified between the trajectories of police commanders and basic-level personnel, as well as convergences and divergences in the trajectories based on the political-military organization of origin.

The article aims to analyze how the recent tourist practices on the Tacaná volcano —located on the border between Mexico and Guatemala— contribute to the production of everyday geopolitics that transforms the experiences and representations of walking between countries. Based on a qualitative strategy, it was observed that the tourist paths reconfigured everyday cross-border landscapes where, on the one hand, historical ways of walking are revalued, socio-spatial networks are reinforced, and places of encounter and brotherhood emerge. On the other hand, national divisions are also reorganized and reproduced, while new fragmentations emerge in the struggle for mobility control.

This article examines an approach to the vulnerability as an analytical category, moving beyond an impressionistic perspective that considers only certain actors as intrinsically vulnerable. We use the concept of ambivalent vulnerability to explain how the Peninsular Maya People in Mexico collectively faced and resisted the COVID-19 pandemic. Through semi-structured interviews, we accessed their memories and narratives around this event, which allowed us to define three Temporal dimensions —past, present and future— and to recognize how, based on the experience during COVID-19, they envisioned possible futures. We conclude that the notion of ambivalence allows us to acknowledge people’s agency and, in doing so, to regard the «other» as an interlocutor—one who possesses knowledge and the capacity to navigate critical moments.

This article examines the persistence of diabetes as a public health problem in Mexico, with a particular focus on Chiapas. Despite the efforts made by health authorities since 1994, diabetes remains one of the leading causes of mortality. By reviewing the actions taken by both federal and state governments for the prevention and control of this disease, the study demonstrates that these measures have been insufficient to address this growing public health problem. From the perspective of the social determinants of health, the need for a comprehensive approach that considers social and political inequities in the prevention and treatment of diabetes is emphasized. Additionally, the impact of the food industry and public policies on the health of individuals with this disease is highlighted.

The article aims to reflect on the construction of collaborative knowledge between Universidad Externado de Colombia and the Association of Black, Indigenous, and Peasant Women of Buenaventura (AMUCIB, its Spanish acronym), focusing on the tensions and encounters that emerge within a political and organizational process aimed at strengthening local economies. This is pursued through engagement with a market economy, using products that are cultivated in the territory, processed, and marketed by the collective that forms the association. The approach is rooted in a transdisciplinary perspective of social research, understanding knowledge and wisdom as a dynamic and open process in which collaborative methodologies play a central role.
