Philosophy undertakes investigation of the Ecuadorian national identity in the 40s of the twentieth century when appear the studies of P. Jaramillo Alvarado, L. Benites Vinueza. The literature takes up the idea of P. Jaramillo on the incongruity of the country's official name. This motif is metaphorized in the work of J. E. Adoum, A. Barrera Valverde, N. Estupiñan Bass determining the identity dis-course. In terms of artistic and philosophical counterweight to this question appears self-designation of the centric location of Ecuador on the globe, causing some paradi-siacal mythologems in the poetry of J. Carrera Andrade. In Bolivia, due to the national trauma of the lost sea, J. Mendoza's scientific arguments about the sea as an insepara-ble part of Bolivian geology translated into poetic imagery and philosophy of the “mystics of the earth”. The sea metaphorically becomes the basis for ideas of all kinds. Are consubstantial sea and mountains are identified with each other (in the work of O. Cerruto and P. Castrillo) and even intimate poetry uses the metaphor of the sea. So, it becomes evident how the geopoetics determines a culture that is progress-ing in its self-reflection.

Brazil is one of the countries with the largest inequalities in the social, socio-economic and above all the regional sectors. Despite being the 10th global economy, Brazil did not succeed in decisively minimizing social, urban-rural and regional contrasts. Recently indicators registered an improvement but globa-lization could aggravate social exclusion and inter- as well as intra-regional dis-parities. The Southeast region with São Paulo, motor of industrialization, and the South, marked by European immigrants and relatively sound social conditions, are leading in nearly all sectors, while the Northeast – especially Maranhão, Alagoas and Piauí – show poverty and enormous infrastructural deficiencies. Concerning regional development, there still exist ―four Brazils‖: Southeast/South, Middle-West, Northeast and North (Amazonia). The Southeast and South represent the ―first Brazil‖ turning the country into a global player. The Middle-West is the region with major progress because of the impetus of agrobusiness with soybean cultivation. Today, the Amazon region is pending between rapid incorporation into the national economic area and a regional policy for protecting the indigenous population and the biodiversity of tropi-cal forests. In spite of all regional planning measures of the government, the Northeast holds the position of a ―fourth Brazil‖ with unequal conditions of property, clientelism and is turning to be a looser of globalization.

This paper analyses the formation of New Latin American Geo-economy, starting from establishment of Open Regionalism that was based on neo-liberal reforms applied by the governments of these countries. However, this project entered into profound crisis because of the effects of the contemporary global eco-nomic crisis demonstrating the high level of economic and political vulnerability of the region. In fact, the crisis of neo-liberal development model caused the process of geo-economic and political changes in Latin America pointing to the formation of new progressive process of ideological disagreements concerning the issues of socio-economic development of the region. On the basis of this premises the author suggests considering this problem in the light of the formation of New Latin American Geo-economy at the beginning of the 21st century as a direct consequence of the crisis of neo-liberal model on one side, and Latin American Open Regionalism on the other.

The nineteenth century Cuban text, which once had the largest impact in Europe, is probably „Autobiography of a slave” by Juan Francisco Manzano. This is a text written in Cuba in 1835, first published in England in 1840 and printed in Cuba itself not before 1937 by José Luciano Franco. The article develops the ideas from various perspectives and in various constellations, i.e. in the form of a kaleidoscope.

“Nowe Ateny” (The New Athens), written by a Polish priest Be-nedykt Joachim Chmielowski (1700-1763), was the first Polish-language encyclope-dia. It was published in 1745-1746, and the second edition was supplemented between 1754 and 1764. Benedykt Chmielowski, on the basis of the available sources of the time, gathered information from various domains of knowledge. My article intends to shine a light on the extensive image of America presented by Father Chmielowski, whose book served to arouse the interest and curiosity of the Polish readers in the 18th century, for whom “Nowe Ateny” constituted, till the Enlightenment, the unique source of knowledge about the New World.
