Resumen
The earlier Madame de Stael’s essay on relations between litera-ture and society, the Lukács, Goldman, Hauser and Sacarpit’s works on the influence of sociology into fiction, have founded the sociology of literature. In the following pages, we propose the reverse situation: how literature influences society. The XX century Latin American fiction is a good example of which we analyze its different periods.

Resumen
This article describes a major shift in Chile's self-identity after the transition to democracy after the Pinochet dictatorship in 1989. Democratic Chile made a virtue of its democratic stability and its autonomy in international affairs, first, by executing a trade policy that minimized its dependence in the world market; and, second, by looking beyond its immediate borders to seek national security as a de-fender of democratic values in a larger global community.

Resumen
Urban plans are still not very effective in regulating the peripheral urban expansion, which has hampered the creation and regulation of land reserves to allow orderly urban development, conditions that worsen in metropolitan zones. Thus, the formation and evaluation of land reserves are not applied in a parallel way with the integrated urban development policies, causing speculation of conurbated areas, expanding the market regardless of the rules that determine their cost. This situation occurs in the area between Ixtapan de Sal and Tonatico, which plays a role in regional and intermunicipal services and productive activities from its physical and demo-graphic continuity. So, the aim of this document is to analyze the conditions of the land reserves in the suburbs of Ixtapan de la Sal-Tonatico during the period 2003-2006 to identify social and territorial impacts in the context of internal and external area, by evaluating the effectiveness, efficiency, service coverage, usefulness and im-pact.

Resumen
The PAC (Lula‘s Government 2006-2010) as a huge Brazilian macroeconomic projects to enlarge Energetic Sectors, the dam waters transposing of the São Francisco‘s river as solution to the Northeast drought, are putting into danger the fragile Amazonian biome‘s and semi-arid Northeast. Seeking to alert about the di-sasters that dam water transposition represents to large rivers and also going further than the reformists focus, this paper remember the diagnosis to the regional Celso Furtado‘s works, first one to defend the need to integrate sustainable policy actions with large-scale strategic economic planning.

Resumen
In Mexico, public security is provided by the central government, states and municipalities, within their respective spheres of competence, resulting in a decentralized police model, under which a little more than 38% of state force is represented by the municipal police custody. While recently the survey results Justiciabarómetro, conducted in the six municipalities of the metropolitan area of Guadalajara, account for a situation marked by helplessness among the soldiers responsible for ensuring public safety; weakness shared by their peers from the police forces of the country which can be illustrated by the case of the municipality of Tlajomulco de Zuniga.

Resumen
The paper contains some observations and reflexions – results from field research in Mazahua Region, in the nortwestern part of the State of Mexi-co, conducted in February 2010 by the geographers from the Warsaw University and the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico. This field research has been a first part of the common research project planned for the period 2010-2012. The author’s reflexions deal with the three elements of socioeconomic changes in the region during the last thirty years: the new migration patterns, the programmes of economic aid and social assistance and the projects of community tourism, presented in the region since the last years of the XX century.

Resumen
One of the social principles derived from the Mexican Revolution, was land reform. For seventy decades of the Twentieth century, rural mobilization of the peasantry revolved around land distribution against the various forces of reaction who resisted and developed repressive and political strategies to stop land distribu-tion. The state of Veracruz was the scenario of the peasant struggle for land and in his space also happened armed repression and murder against those who demanded a plot to work.

Resumen
Local or regional development in the era of globalization has been stimulated by endogenous and exogenous phenomena. It is really difficult to deter-mine which of the very complex and mutual relations are influencing the processes of social and economic development and growth. Normally there is a broad spectrum of causes and consequences of such processes. In the case of marginal region, in this case the region of Mazahua (Mexico) with predominantly Indian population, the situa-tion is even more complicated. It is very important to define and to find those charac-teristics and properties that can stimulate the process of local development.

Resumen
This text is dedicated to my dear professor Andrzej Dembicz. It at-tempts to update the regional-urban question thought from a critical perspective and applied to Mexico. Main sustainability problems within Mexican cities are analyzed, taking into account not only their inner context but from the wide world revolutions (open markets, technology and information, politics and social expectations), that have deeply changed this nation during the last three decades, emphasizing their so-cio-environmental transformations. Some principles aimed to recover urban planning and to put in practice a governance process based on the territory are proposed in or-der to face the deep urban crisis in Mexico.
