This study describes how the internal structure of two websites (in English and French) is interwoven, and formulates a series of hypotheses on the operation of the information flows extant in each of them. Apart from showing the multilingual and multicultural issues upon which these hypotheses are built, this study puts forward a series of discourse models derived from the information flows presented to the visitors-readers of those sites. This analysis yields a series of reflections that will allow researchers to elaborate pedagogic proposals focused on the teaching and learning of languages.

The application of new technologies in language teaching opens up a range of options in the search for methods and tools favourable to both effective foreign language acquisition and knowledge of its culture. In spite of the expansion on the Internet of audiovisual tools that enhance communication, oral production strategies are still poorly developed in the language classroom. Within the framework of pedagogical telecollaboration projects, written language is usually predominant. The León-Grenoble project and the communities of practice in the Campus Virtuel FLE try to correct these discrepancies by trying to establish a balance between oral and written skills. Task-based oral production is here fundamental for learners of French as a Foreign Language (FFL). And even more crucial are the practices to correct pronunciation for the three agents involved in the educational context: teachers, tutors and students of FFL.

The aim of this paper is to present an approach to the novel Désert, by the 2008 Nobel Prize Jean Marie Gustave Le Clézio, from the point of view of ecocritics. Thus, the presence and treatment of natural elements in this novel will be analysed, mainly focussing on the relationship between the aforementioned elements and the main character, Lalla Hawa, daughter of the desert.

This paper studies two fairy tales, L’Oiseau bleu by Mme d’Aulnoy (17th century) and El pájaro verde by Juan Valera (19th century) with the aim of analyzing the different versions of a traditional narrative topic: the blue bird. We focus especially on the initiation rite and its successive phases: metamorphosis, injury, disguise, loss, fate and chance. Besides, in the first part of the article, we study those aspects that are found in the work of only one of our writers: the will to integrate wonder in reality (Juan Valera) and the subject matter of cruelty (Mme d’Aulnoy).

In Marie-Claire Blais’ first novels, the images of eyes and glances acquire a great significance. They highlight the character’s relationships, conformism or rebelliousness. The other’s constant gaze arouses feelings of shame and remorse in the character which is being observed. This article will illustrate how Marie-Claire Blais’ portrayals of eyes and glances allow her to draw attention to the character’s relationships and to denounce the dramatic consequences the notions of guilt and shame have in the search of individual identity.

The dramaturgy of Marivaux’s comedy La Fausse Suivante weaves the relationships of its characters into a triangular shape. It is a changing inter-action due to the presence of masks hiding their truth. This system of unstable triangles’ axis is the triple identity of the comedy’s main character, allowing her to change her initial position of coveted victim, into leading the action of the rest of the characters, creating the evidence that unveils their artifices and teaches everyone a moral lesson. This comedy, with its path of psychological tests and theatre within theatre, fully represents the theatrical features of Marivaux, which combine humour with issuing an appeal for humanized interpersonal relations.

This paper aims a reading of L’École des indifférents, one of Giraudoux’s most outstanding novels, defining it as a modernist’s lyrical novel. For this purpose it will first draw the concept of lyrical novel, paying attention to the birth of this narrative genre and its later development. Afterwards, it will show the features of this genre in the novel, pointing out the traits of Giraudoux’s writing; in whose delicate style, full of poetical resources, stamps the boldness of his work.

This paper discusses the product of translation, especially in the reception of translated texts, not primarily by readers at large, but more by consumers who, whether they buy the product or not, browse, look for information and, thereby, establish contact with paratextual elements. We consider translation, therefore, a tool which helps in resituating the cultural representations and delimitations of the differently presented communities. Thus, different modalities of translation presented in the catalogue of the Spanish Editorial Board of Zanzibar (global strategies) are analysed along with the individual presentation of the literary works included in it (specific strategies). It is hoped that a (partial) description might be achieved on the editorial strategies for identifying the cultural aspects that authors and texts may have and show. Furthermore, the incidence of translated texts in erasing (or not) a dichotomic vision of these cultural aspects will be also considered.

This article analyses a series of terms and expressions employed in seventeenth century French to describe hairdressing, wigs, makeup and gloves. The information presented here comes basically from four poems published in France between 1613 and 1622. Data found in several seventeenth-century monolingual and bilingual dictionaries, as well as in Simon Barbe’s Le parfumeur françois (1693) are incorporated as well. A detailed study of all those works allows for new theories on the semantic evolution in this field of the French lexicon.

The presence of immigrants from Italy in Quebec literature is the starting point for analysing the possible transcultural links that they set up. We have selected the works of three writers: Marco Micone, Tiziana Beccarelli Saad and Rita Amabili-Rivet, belonging to the so-called «immigrant literature». Their comparison leads us to conclude that the search for a cultural space of their own is a recurring element in this specific context, where the notion of identity, which has always been problematic, must be reconstructed.
