Resumen
Periodontitis is an inflammatory disorder, initiated by the presence of bacterial plaque, which affects both the periodontal ligament and the bone that surrounds the teeth. These ailments include cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal and colorectal cancer, diabetes and insulin and Alzheimer's disease, as well as respiratory tract disease and adverse events of pregnancy.
In recent decades, several lines of evidence have supported the existence of a relationship between periodontitis and systemic health. Periodontitis acts within the same chronic inflammatory model seen in cardiovascular disease, it is now evident that cardiac disorders are worsened by periodontitis, both experimentally and in humans. For all these reasons, it is highly plausible that the prevention of periodontal lamina alteration has an impact on the progression of cardiovascular alterations. In this review, we have provided an updated account of the current understanding of periodontitis and cardiovascular disease.

Resumen
The story of Nicolás Alcázar, a hero doctor of the independence of Peru, is presented; the importance of their heroic acts is considered, because despite the controversy that, for some authors, the independence figures of the time are, it is recognized that these acts are based on ethical and moral principles that must be defended by doctors also in the present.

Resumen
A systematic review study was carried out according to the standards of the PRISMA guide. We searched Medline, Pubmed, Central Cochrane and Embase databases. Observational studies (case-control and cohorts) that were published no more than 5 years ago and studied MPV as a diagnostic marker of NS, were included. From 60 articles identified, 12 were selected to be analyzed. We found that the diagnostic cut-off point for MPV ranged between 9.2 and 10.8 fL. In addition, the highest reported diagnostic sensitivity was 100%, and the lowest, 70%; while the specificity ranged from 33% to 94.4% according to each study. Conclusion: The MPV has a high sensitivity for the diagnosis of NS, however, the analyzed studies show a highly variable specificity.

Resumen
The baby of a diabetic mother is an infant with a high risk of presenting complications, which may be more serious in children of pregnant women diagnosed with diabetes before pregnancy and with inadequate metabolic control. In Peru, there is little information about the incidence of this problem. The case of a premature, macrosomic infant with dysmorphic syndrome, congenital heart disease and multicystic kidney, has a maternal history of type 2 diabetes mellitus, the patient presented an unfavorable clinical evolution and died. The diagnosis of a diabetic mother should be considered in pregnant women with clinical signs suggestive of the disease, since inadequate prenatal control can lead to an unfavorable prognosis in these children.

Resumen
VACTERL association is the non-random co-occurrence of vertebral, anorectal, cardiac, tracheoesophageal, renal and limb congenital malformations, and in addition may be associated with tracheomalacia. The aim of this report is to describe the presence of congenital malformations in a case of VACTERL and tracheomalacia association. We report the case of a newborn whose adolescent mother reported occasional alcohol consumption. At birth he received CPR with orotracheal intubation and was diagnosed with VACTERL association and sepsis, which was treated with antibiotics. Since birth he presented stridor and at one month of life, the diagnosis of tracheomalacia was confirmed by laryngoscopy. We conclude that VACTERL association in a newborn may be accompanied by some other malformation, such as tracheomalacia, and its detection is essential for proper management and prevention of complications.

Resumen
HIV infection affects all the systems of the human body producing a variety of clinical cases, therefore the aim of this review is to describe the main neuro-ophthalmological complications associated with HIV infection. In the afferent pathway, there are primary optic neuropathies due to direct damage from the virus, and secondary ones, caused by opportunistic infections, neoplasms, ischemia, and drugs, where the clinical presentation varies. On the other hand, within the complications of the efferent pathway are supranuclear defects (conjugate gaze disorders, saccadic dysfunction and soft eye tracking) and cranial nerves III, IV and VI palsies. The damage is mediated by HIV itself or by associated conditions and can occur at any time during the disease. All patients with HIV should undergo periodic ophthalmological evaluations in order to detect these anomalies in a timely manner and mitigate their consequences.

Resumen
COVID-19 is the disease classified as a pandemic and that currently affects our reality. Its clinical manifestations are varied among themselves and its most serious expression can be fatal.
Anosmia, on the other hand, is one of the less serious symptoms in the patient's health, but one that can nevertheless directly affect their quality of life. This symptom generally appears in cases of mild intensity, associated with the most typical manifestations such as headache, fever, general malaise and upper respiratory manifestations.
Young adult patients have had a higher proportion of mild COVID-19 cases, and thus the clinical manifestation of anosmia has also been reported. Despite the aforementioned, and that this particular manifestation becomes more frequent among those affected, the mechanism, the approach and finally the prognosis that can be offered to the patient are still not clear.
Due to the aforementioned, the research team set out to carry out a narrative review in order to collect the most relevant data or the most promising theories regarding anosmia in young patients affected by COVID-19.
