The influence that the use of different electronic media can have in the juvenile population’s school grade performance is a worrisome topic in which discrepancies exist in the results, so that conclusions or definitive agreements are not reached. The objective of this work is to offer an answer to it. The sample consists of adolescents (N = 433) of both sexes from the Autonomous Community of the Principality of Asturias, from institutions of secondary education (urban and suburban). The design of descriptive character, tries to correlate success or academic failure —failure of subjects at the end of the school year—as well as the motivation for the study —time that the students dedicate to their academic tasks outside of class— with the use and consumption of different electronic communication media. The results offer the reality of the use and consumption of electronic media by our adolescents, while it impacts in the differential importance of the gender variable and it guides the research to establish the importance of both interpersonal resources to know other adolescents as well as their own economic and educational resources present in the context of family socialization.

This article proposes itself to be a space in which to relate reflections on and concerns about the new Official Masters in Social Work, drawn from the experience generated, as a student body, by the first graduating class of the Official Interuniversity Postgraduate Degree in Social Work of the Complutense University of Madrid. The discourse chosen takes as a starting point the fight that the discipline led some years ago for the Bachelors Degree motivated by the recognition in the university setting, to then to focus on the new achievement of the official Master’s, spaces that, beyond just recognition, make reflection on and the growth of the discipline of Social Work possible. The interest in the Master’s level springs from not only the European goal and approach (the new configuration of credits, the concept of the work of the teacher and student, the renewal of didactic methodologies, etc.) but also its insertion in the reality of the Spanish university. It is good to stop and take the pulse, to analyze, evaluate and transmit the first steps of this promising project, transforming the subjectivity of those who are directly involved with the possibility of reflection in order to promote and improve the aspects that constitute this wager.

The most visible face of gender violence is the position of the woman as a victim. The most shocking fact is the brutality she suffers and the loss of opportunities that it entails. It is out of the question that gender violence is based upon a patriarchal structured social system, however we can’t overlook the influence of factors outside the sociological field. From my experience as a clinical psychologist, I see the interaction between social and personality aspects. If we insist on considering that only external factors matter, we turn women into passive victims helpless in a hostile world they can’t change. On the other hand, if we promote the assumption of their personal participation in the setting of these relationships, we give them hope and we open a way towards learning to defend themselves that leads to independence and to the chance of stablishing non abusive relationships with others.

In the age of postmodernism, Social Work is developing within a complex ever-changing context. This fact makes many social activities take place in a continuum constrained by opposite theoretical frameworks or paradigms. Therefore, Social Workers need to make a critical analysis of the models, methods and methodolgy of their interventions at hand, in order to behave not only out of self-control and containment, but also out of recognition, respect and the development of competence. All this is necessary in order to clarify the difficulties of the interventions involved whithin a perspective where the individual / customer is an active subject of his/her own changing process.

In this article, the figure of the «Certified Social Integration Technician» is placed in context. This is a certificate which arises from the reform of the educational and vocational training system, contributed by L.O.G.S.E.*, and which, to a great extent, is replacing with specific training and a more formal nature, the «Social Monitors» who worked in different programmes but who, in many instances, did it as volunteer work or without any homogenous training. Going from a general perspective to a more specific one in the training of this technician, the main objective is to place the field of vocational training and its current transformations so as to descend to the Professional Family of Sociocultural and Community Services, to the curriculum and the profile of the aforementioned Social Integration Technician and to the example of the formative development of a module or subject of its training programme, thus showing the suitability of this professional figure in the broad field of Social Services.

. This paper carries out a consideration on the Master Programmes insertion in the Social Work capacity building. This event is regarded as a milestone in the Social Work development and evolution. The Madrid Complutense University Master Programme in Social Community Work, Management and Social Services Assessment Programme main features are describe. Also highlighting the change from a teaching paradigm to a learning paradigm, as well as the time span dedicated to the Practicum, its theoretical and practical orientation to research and opportunities opened to the grow and improvement of the scientific production in Social Work. Related to that, the Social Work scientific nature is analyzed, and it pleads in favour of an epistemological and methodological position that abides to the structural nature of the social phenomena we study and take part in. It is pointed out the fact that the very Social WorK history, its basically practical nature, and its traditional interest in social research constitute the warranty and basements of the Social Work development as a science. Therefore, the paper analyzes the importance of a specific capacity building in the field of social research like the one given in the Master Programme in order to endorse rigor, reliability and validity of our studies and its transcendence in the process of gathering and generation of Social Work specific knowledge.

This paper aims at shedding some light on new challenges faced by Universities nowadays. We try to clarify a complex topic in itself: the place of learning strategies in relation to competency model proposed by the European Higher Education reform. Similarly, we assess the impact, consequences and educational implications that, for obvious reasons, a teaching system based on competence is expected to have on newer teaching methods.
