Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the Chinese political leadership has devoted substantial efforts to shape, through media and institutional discourses, a specific narrative of its response to the crisis, framing it as a fight in which the Chinese people, under the leadership of Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party, promptly came together to defeat the virus. The present paper examines this dominant narrative focusing on the Chinese language section on the fight against COVID-19 of the multilingual online platform China Keywords, a project run by State and Party-affiliated institutions. Drawing on the theoretical background and analytical tools from Critical Discourse Studies, the paper provides an analysis of the discursive representation of social actors constructed by this tool. The analysis shows how different discursive strategies employed to represent specific social actors contribute to reinforce the constitutive elements of the Chinese leadership’s dominant narrative of the events of early 2020. Moreover, the paper argues that the section of China Keywords on the topic should be understood as one of the products of the multifaceted institutional efforts to “tell China’s Covid-19 story well,” both domestically and internationally.  

Programmata su basi tecno-scientifiche, la città europea del terzo millennio rischia di dimenticare o banalizzare le distruzioni e i massacri di massa provocati dalla Seconda guerra mondiale. La poetica del frottage di Durs Grünbein mostra quanto i camouflages che addobbano le nostre città sconfessino l’unicità del vivente, suscettibile di emergere in ogni pietra e piazza d’Europa.  Il cosmopolitismo perseguito da Grünbein lo radica a Dresda e a Hellerau come luoghi in cui per un breve periodo si realizzarono progetti di Lebensreform, tra i quali un’architettura e un’istruzione che comprendesse le classi meno agiate e gli esclusi. Fantasticate e fantasmatizzate come possibilità per il futuro, le immagini dell'infanzia e dell'adolescenza di Grünbein punteggiano la sua poetica urbana. Insieme alla senese Piazza del Campo e alla ricerca del genius loci, l'isola che non c'è diventa per tanto, nell’opera dell'autore di lingua tedesca, la cornice di una rappresentabilità della cittadinanza europea nutrita delle istanze ideali del Manifesto di Ventotene (1941) e dei Colloqui di Hertenstein (1946).

In the vast literary production of A. P. Chekhov there are written testimonies of the cholera epidemic that struck Russia for the fifth time during 1892-1893. Approximately 400,000 deaths were recorded from this epidemic that began in India and Central Asia in 1883. As Chekhov’s profession was that of medical doctor, he dedicated himself to the farmers in the numerous villages situated in the area of his estate in Melichovo, refusing any monetary compensation. This experience is recorded both in the documents relative to his professional activity and in his letters. Critics consider these as an integral part of his literary production as they present the same stylistic and narrative characteristics. The present article will analyze the representation of these tragic events from a double perspective. On the one hand from the point of view of Chekhov-physician; on the other, as Chekhov-writer. The following aspects will be discussed: 1) the description of cholera as an animate being. This is a typical characteristic of mythologizing a disease in the collective imagination. 2) The description of the apocalyptic attitude in the population regarding the epidemic. It was given the status of divine punishment. 3) Consideration of the focal points of the epidemic as ʻdead spacesʼ.

Diversos são os fatores ambientais conhecidos por causarem câncer, como a obesidade, má alimentação, consumo de álcool e tabaco, agentes infecciosos, hábitos de higiene e exposição solar. Tais fatores podem ser acumulados durante a vida do indivíduo, levando ao surgimento do câncer com o passar do tempo. Não se sabe exatamente as ligações entre a adolescência e o aparecimento do câncer na vida adulta, porém, estudos mostram a adolescência como um período crítico para a saúde. Portanto, o presente trabalho objetivou verificar a prevalência dos fatores ambientais de risco para o desenvolvimento do câncer entre adolescentes. Realizou-se um estudo transversal de caráter observacional, com 60 estudantes da Escola Estadual de Ensino Fundamental e Médio Professor Pedro Simão, localizada no Município de Alegre – ES, com o auxílio de um questionário autoaplicável. Os resultados indicaram alta prevalência de exposição solar sem protetor, bem como consumo de carne vermelha e embutidos e fumo passivo, sendo evidenciados os principais fatores relacionados ao câncer. Já as prevalências de fatores relacionados à prevenção do câncer incluíram o consumo de frutas, verduras e legumes, além da prática de atividade física. Observou-se ainda associação entre o nível de escolaridade e algumas características avaliadas. O presente estudo contribui para traçar o perfil de adolescentes de uma região no Sul do Espírito Santo, considerando fatores ambientais modificáveis associados ao desenvolvimento do câncer, sendo importante para traçar medidas preventivas da doença, a partir da modificação destes hábitos.
