Goal: This study was aimed at analyzing the experiences of some workers in the Colombian financial sector regarding the mergers and acquisitions processes in this sector from the 1990s until 2010. Method: Empirical research with a qualitative approach was carried out, wherein a semi-structured interview was carried out with 22 participants who had experienced and participated in mergers and acquisitions processes at the banks Grupo Bancolombia and Grupo Aval. Results and discussions: The implementation of new productivity measurement systems; technological changes, consequent changes in employee–client relationships, and provision of constant trainings to match the ever-evolving demand; and transformations in relationships, locations, and work schedules resulted in greater pressure, as observed in the research findings. Results are discussed on the basis of the labor-force approach, and evidence is provided for these processes resulting in new experiences regarding clients and user management. Conclusions: The mergers and acquisitions processes shape the careers of workers because they influence their identities, socio-affective ties, and their job responsibilities, and they frame the conflicts and historical moments deriving from them.

This article addresses a bibliometric analysis of open innovation across the world, using the Scopus database for the period of 2010–2021. For this purpose, descriptive research was used with a quantitative approach through the statistical and qualitative documental analysis of leading publications. It was found that the study of open innovation has had a greater significance at a global scale, more so in countries such as: Italy, the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and Spain, mainly in the Business and Management subject. The keywords were also analyzed using the VOS viewer software along with the main authors and most relevant institutions in this study subject, both worldwide and in Colombia. However, there are very few studies related to this subject in Colombia, therefore a greater scientific interest in this area is required. As a result of the analysis performed, the features and tendencies of current research were identified, and a theoretical model is presented, taking the guidelines of the Methodi Ordinatio into consideration and highlighting the most significant particularities of the publications made.

Goal: This study aimed to identify the motivations behind entrepreneurs’ choice of franchising as a business model over traditional entrepreneurship to help understand the prevalence of the former over the latter. Method: Research was conducted with a mixed approach and an exploratory design on the basis of interviews and surveys conducted with 32 entrepreneurs who had franchises in the region of Cundinamarca, Colombia. Results and discussion: The main motivation was found to be the investment and diversification of their resources so as not to depend on income obtained from employment. It, therefore, can be affirmed that people undertake this type of business because it provides an opportunity and that they are encouraged from an economic perspective. Nevertheless, the decision as to whether to invest or to become an entrepreneur can generate an opportunity to create a culture that stimulates information about franchises, particularly for women. Conclusions: Franchising has become a model to reduce uncertainty in the search for income diversification as it allows a business idea to be explored, in which the customer and the gap in the market have already been identified, and this, along with the established brand, support, and knowledge of the market, means that it becomes an attractive model for inexperienced investors.

The innovative behavior of organizations becomes a fundamental requirement for the current knowledge economy context. Factors such as scientific and technological progress, globalization, networks, and sustainability are integrated into the forefront of the external elements that must be managed strategically and operationally. At this forefront is the circular economy, a representative of sustainable innovation that requires organizational models in which knowledge flows as an asset to generate what are called eco-innovations. Knowledge management requires modeling exercises named knowledge management models, the usefulness of which is not focused on knowledge per se, i.e., on increasing the knowledge among people in the organization, but on impacting the challenges and strategic goals, which, in this case, have an innovative profile from the "eco" approach and provide solutions to the paradigm of the circular economy. Thus, this article offers a clarifying approach to the role played by appropriate knowledge management in the development of eco-innovations that generate a specific scheme, called an "eco-innovation pyramid," which, in turn, serves as a reference to promote eco-innovative behavior in organizations desirous of propelling forward by proposing value within the parameters of Circular Economy.

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis Zopf, 1883 and is estimated to be responsible for about 1.9 million deaths worldwide. In Brazil, every year 70,000 people are infected and 4,500 die. Thus, the objective was to investigate the epidemiological profile of those affected by tuberculosis in Juazeiro do Norte-CE, between 2009 and 2019. This was an epidemiological, retrospective, analytical, documentary, ecological and quantitative study using secondary data from the “Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde” (DATASUS). The variables analyzed were year, sex, age group, ethnicity, education and area of residence. 1,093 cases of tuberculosis were found, with 2019 being the most prevalent. The epidemiological profile of those affected was predominantly men (67.9%), aged 20 to 59 years (69.6%), brown (75.5%), with low education (35.4%) and living in urban area (92.6%). These data can be used for the creation of public policies aimed at serving the population most susceptible to tuberculosis in the city.

There is an imperative need to reduce disposable plastics and enhance the value of plastic waste. Stakeholders from the HORECA network and the general public participated in 11 awareness actions at Minho river, riverbanks, and at Caminha beach. The aim of these actions was to raise awareness about plastic reduction from land-based sources into the oceans, especially single-use plastics. Over 4.300 plastics were collected and organized in a TOP 5 of predominance: Fragments (< 2,5 cm); Cigarette butts; Fragments (> 2,5 cm); Cotton buds; Bio filters pieces. A digital pedagogical “Collection Litter 365” was created with photographs of waste removed from the aquatic environment and art works that used it as raw material for the artistic process. Simultaneously, 42 restaurants, cafes, hotels and accommodation establishments were surveyed and motivated to eliminate or minimize the use of disposable plastics and improve it's separation for recycling. Plastic water bottles (43%), plastic straws (40%) and plastic bags with handles (26%) were the most decreased items. Plastic separation for recycling reached 29%. Art works were exhibited in Minho river, at the Art Biennale of Cerveira and disseminated via digital communication. These actions were performed during LowPlast Project, promoted by Aquamuseu do rio Minho - Vila Nova de Cerveira Municipality, in partnership with the Portuguese Marine Litter Association, the Foundation Biennale of Art of Cerveira and the Interdisciplinary Art Institute - DTK, in Norway, and financed by EEA Grants.  https://aquamuseu.cm-vncerveira.pt/pages/893.

The European eel, Anguilla anguilla (Linnaeus, 1758), is vulnerable to infections by the parasitic nematode Anguillicola crassus Kuwahara, Niimi & Itagaki, 1974, mainly in freshwater ecosystems. The eel is a bioindicator species due to its benthic behaviour, predator, and life cycle. The parasite feeds on blood from the eel's swim bladder, causing damage to the walls and deterioration of this organ, reducing energy reserves, and affecting its migratory capacity for reproduction. Eels were captured at different sampling points divided into 4 areas of the international section of the Minho River in the following time periods: 1995-96, 2008-2011 and 2017-2021, through fyke nets and electric fishing sampling techniques. The objectives of this work were to analyze the dispersion and prevalence of A. crassus in the Minho River basin over time, infection rates and the eels condition. The prevalence levels found reach values close to 75% in some sampled locations and 99% of eels shown pathological signs of swim bladder infection. The nematode dispersal area increased since the early 1990s when its presence in the Minho River was first recorded.

Scientific illustration can be defined as a realistic representation of an object that the illustrator or the scientist observes, pointing out features that they want to show. Over the years, illustration has fulfilled different objectives, becoming an indispensable tool in the science service, being extremely important to understanding the natural world and recognized as a significant factor in the emergence of modern science (MOSER, 2014). The scientific illustration helps to define the object in a simple way, being instantly “readable” or easy to interpret, even for a non-erudite and is a form of visual scientific communication (ALCARAZ; CORREIA; CERVIÑO, 2015; MOSER, 2014). For these reasons, drawing is a tool appreciated by scientists. The aim of this article is to show the different areas of application of scientific illustration and also the emergence of the digital illustration, particularly the 3D illustration.
