The article pursues two objectives: to verify the authorship of Juan de Dios Peza of the novel Perucho, grandson of Periquillo; analyze the functioning of this work as a founding narrative. Authorship is established through autobiographical and philological evidence. The figure of Peza influences the founding story that begins a hesitant and paradoxical rewriting of 19th century Mexican history from the perspective of the late Porfiriato.

The Rāmāyaṇa was one of the first works of Indian classical literature to attract the attention of European orientalism. In the 1870s, this interest reached Mexican cultural circles, as translations, journalistic notes, artistic expressions and other testimonies show. This article examines these testimonies, especially those of the intellectual José González de la Torre, and based on them reconstructs the reception, dissemination and representation of Rāmāyaṇa in Mexico in the last decades of the 19th century. The research reveals a fundamental episode of Mexican orientalism, since it was through the Rāmāyaṇa that India acquired a well-defined symbolic profile in the national cultural imagination. Cosmopolitan desires converged around this symbolism, but also a patriotic impetus. However, with the debut of the 20th century there was a sudden decline, suggestive of a paradigm shift, also outlined in the article.

This essay proposes an inquiry into the place that intimacy has within the narrative work of Nellie Campobello, particularly when it resonates with the patterns marked by the maternal voice and the ancestral echo that accompanies it. This, as part of a literary enterprise aimed at confronting the hegemonic discourse of the post-revolutionary regime through a struggle for form and the poetic construction of a truth that aspires to rewrite history. Through the five sections that make it up, and with the support of various critical sources, the article addresses problems such as the assignment of Campobello's narrative to the corpus of the “novel of the Revolution” or that related to the intermedial character of the narrative of the Durango writer. A section is also dedicated to specifically commenting on “Nacha Ceniceros”, one of the stories that are part of Cartucho

In the contemporary world, Decoloniality is both a way of thinking and a practice which contributes in a significant and direct manner to the long struggle of indigenous peoples to free themselves from the colonial order, and to regain their own cultures and ancient territories. Among the many facets of thisstruggle in Latin America, the native artistic expressions stand out as part of the cultural revitalization movement. This article analyses briefly the theoretical, historical, and ideological contexts of this decolonial movement, focusing on the emergence of a Mayan literature, and with its spirit aimed to transgress the hegemonic literary canon.

Adverbial subordinate clauses in Spanish present significant complexities for learners of Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL). This complexity is largely attributed to implicit grammatical rules, such as verbal agreement and the use of subjunctive forms, which pose challenges for learners. To explore this learning phenomenon more comprehensively, we investigated the acquisition of adverbial subordinate clauses through the lens of conceptual subordination, as proposed by Cristofaro (2003). Our study draws on existing research regarding language acquisition in populations with specific language impairments (SLI), particularly referencing Alvarado (2020). Leonard (2014) posits that children with SLI and second language learners may encounter similar difficulties due to the inherent characteristics of the linguistic systems they are acquiring. Consequently, we aimed to examine the extent to which the handling of adverbial subordinate clauses reveals parallels between the processes observed in children with SLI and those experienced by SFL students. To achieve this, we analyzed a sample of five intermediate-level ELE students who are native English speakers. Utilizing the PPCS framework (Alvarado, 2020), we elicited a corpus comprising 80 interclausal relations. Our analysis focused on two key aspects: (a) from a conceptual standpoint, we identified the asymmetrical relationships between two states of affairs (SoAs), and (b) from a formal perspective, we examined how these relationships were encoded—either through prototypical or alternative forms—while also considering the errors associated with each. The results revealed a substantial production of subordinating links, predominantly encoded using prototypical forms. However, there were notably more deviations in instances where alternative forms were utilized. While these findings do not entirely align with those observed in children with SLI, they provide valuable insights that support Leonard's hypotheses (2014) and contribute to a broader understanding of the acquisition process.

The principal aim was to describe the intonation pattern of declaratives and absolute interrogative produced by men and women with and without studies from Medellin belong to urban and rural zones. We study two specific topics: the number of tonal peaks in the contour and the nuclear pattern. The principal results showed that the two-peaks contour, closely followed by the three-peaks contour, characterized the speech of Medellin, in addition, the descending and circumflex nuclear pattern is observed in both sentences modalities. Finally, these nuclear patterns seem to mediate sociolinguistic features.

The perception of time as a social, collective construction is the problem in this study: the diversity of ways in which societies and human groups perceive time is associated with their identity, communication and interaction. With a phenomenological perspective, is elaborated a hypothesis that proposes the so-called cognitive devices, as historical determinants in the perception, uses and treatment of time. Evidence of support is sought in the ethnographic and historical literature first, and then in field observations in rural localities in Chile, and especially in the Patagonia area. The results highlight, first, that the perceived properties are determined by the cognitive device in use; second: the mathematical, continuous, measurable conception, typical of modernity, appears as a particular, urban cultural elaboration; but that coexists with pre-mathematical or analogical forms of ordering. And, third: globalization and the instantaneity of the Internet increase the probability of contacts, with groups and social contexts that have different temporalities, generally invisible, and that diversity configures networks and codes that are not always easy to detect, aspect on which some keys are proposed to identify.

In this study, we investigated the semantic and aspectual conditions that allow the alternation between the prepositional group with structure “a + infinitive clause” and the simple morphological construction of gerund (al escuchar - escuchando). With the tools of semantic-aspectual analysis, the structures and/or conformational mechanisms were evaluated to find the factors that motivated the alternation between the prepositional group and the morphological realization of gerund. The factors involved in the alternation are related to the lexical aspect of the predicates in which they are inserted and to the phenomena of grammatical semantic readjustments: aspectual coercion and focalization.

This article analyses the philosophical relevance of the practice of counterspeech in the context of hate speech. Counterspeech, as a response that attempts to counteract the harmful potential of another discourse, holds the possibility of confronting injustices as well as promoting justice. In order to evaluate the discursive success of responses to unjust practices, I identify three counterdiscursive strategies: resignifying (Butler, 1997), blocking (Langton, 2018) and bending (Caponetto and Cepollaro, 2022). The aim is to examine the scope of undoing things with words from the perspective of an active reception. To do so, I propose a pragmatic approach to certain social injustices, based on a linguistic challenge capable of ruining the felicity of the speech act. After analysing the key features of each of the three strategies, I will indicate some points of convergence. To conclude with what makes it possible to conceptualize them as felicitous discursive resistances.
